  • Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate the total dust, size-selective dust, and heavy metal concentrations generated inside and outside toll booths on an expressway and to identify the source through analysis of the components of the deposited dust. Methods: A total of 32 samples were collected from eight expressway toll booths. Each total dust sample was collected using a 37 mm PVC filter attached to a personal air sampler. Heavy metal samples were collected according to NIOSH method 7300. The size-selective dust concentrations were identified using a DustMate, and deposited dust was analyzed by WD-XRF and UHR-FE-SEM. Results: The geometric mean concentrations of the total dust inside and outside the toll booths were 337.5 ㎍/㎥ and 342.7 ㎍/㎥, respectively. The overall concentrations of TSP, PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 were higher on the outside of the toll booths, as the particle size of dust was larger, and higher in the underground passage as the dust size was smaller. The real-time analysis of the dust concentrations of TSP, PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 revealed to be higher at morning and evening times than other times because of heavy traffic. The element components of deposited dust in the toll booth were related to natural sources rather than artificial sources. Among the chemical components in the deposited dust analyzed by WD-XRF, SiO2 was the highest. For the elements analyzed by UHR-FE-SEM, C was the highest, followed by O, and Si. Conclusions: In order to reduce the dust concentrations around toll booths on an expressway, it is necessary to periodically clean surrounding areas such as underground passages, and it is also necessary to remove deposited dust inside the toll booth from time to time.

  • This paper describes a multiplier architecture optimized for 32 bit RISC processor with 3-stage pipeline. The multiplier of ARM7, the target processor, is variably carried out on the execution stage of pipeline within 7 cycles. The included multiplier employs a modified Booth's algerian to produce 64 bit multiplication and addition product and it has 6 separate instructions. We analyzed several multiplication algorithm such as radix4-32${\times}$8, radix4-32${\times}$16 and radix8-32${\times}$32 to decide which multiplication architecture is most fit for a typical architecture of ARM7. VLSI area, cycle delay time and execution cycle number is the index of an efficient design and the final multiplier was designed on these indexes. To verify the operation of embedded multiplier, it was simulated with various audio algorithms.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of academic stress on academic burnout, the role of academic failure tolerance, and interpersonal stress among college students. The data were collected from 345 undergraduate students from a university in Seoul and were analyzed with a regression analysis and bootstrapping. The results found that first, academic stress affected academic burnout; the more academic stress, the more burnout students experienced. Second, academic stress caused a decreased academic failure tolerance, which then resulted in academic burnout. Third, the mediating effect of the academic failure tolerance on the academic stress and academic burnout was controlled by an interpersonal stress. The present study has significant implications for investigating how the students' personal and social aspects of stress affect academic burnout and suggests appropriate intervention methods.

  • The demand of gas as an eco-friendly energy source has being increased. With the demand of gas, the use of gas is also increased, so injury and loss of life by the explosion and fire have been increasing every year. Hence the influence on over-pressure caused by Vapor Cloud Explosion in enclosure of experimental booth was calculated by using the Hopkinson's scaling law and damage effect by the accident to a human body was estimated by applying the probit model. As a result of the damage estimation conducted by using the probit model, both the damage possibility of explosion overpressure to human over 3 meters away and that of overpressure to tympanum rupture over 25 meters away from the explosion shows nothing.

  • This paper describes Lombard effect compensation and noise suppression so as to reduce speech recognition error in noisy environments. Lombard effect is represented by the variation of spectral envelope of energy normalized word and the variation of overall vocal intensity. The variation of spectral envelope can be compensated by linear transformation in cepstral domain. The variation of vocal intensity is canceled by spectral magnitude normalization. Spectral subtraction is use to suppress noise contamination, and band-pass filtering is used to emphasize dynamic features. To understand Lombard effect and verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, speech data are collected in simulated noisy environments. Recognition experiments were conducted with contamination by noise from automobile cabins, an exhibition hall, telephone booths in down town, crowded streets, and computer rooms. From the experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed method has been confirmed.

  • This study investigates the causes of wrinkle defects in PA12-insulated busbars used in electric vehicles and proposes an improvement method to address these issues. Busbars, essential components for efficient current transmission in electric vehicle battery modules, require complex three-dimensional bending to optimize internal layouts. For this study, oxygen-free copper busbars with a 0.8 mm PA12 insulation coating were subjected to three types of bending tests: flat bending, edge bending, and torsional bending. Experimental results showed that wrinkle defects only occurred during edge bending, while flat and torsional bending modes exhibited no significant issues. Cross-sectional analysis revealed that the PA12 insulation layer's thickness was uneven, with thinner sections on flat areas and thicker accumulation at the comers. This uneven distribution led to poor adhesion between the insulation and copper layers, resulting in the formation of wrinkles, particularly in areas with air gaps ranging from 75 to 250 ㎛. To further analyze the issue, finite element analysis (FEA) of the bending process was performed under adhesive and non-adhesive conditions. The results confirmed that wrinkles formed when the adhesion between the copper and PA12 coating was insufficient. Improved adhesion conditions, achieved through a heat treatment process at 120℃ for 2 hours, significantly reduced the occurrence of wrinkles during edge bending. This study demonstrates that optimizing the adhesion between the insulation coating and the copper busbar, through controlled heat treatment, can prevent wrinkle defects. The findings provide a pathway for enhancing the durability and performance of insulated busbars in electric vehicle applications.
