  • This study investigates the effect of types of usual source of care on medication adherence among the elderly. Using the Korea Health Panel Survey in 2017, this study includes 3,623 elderly people 65 years of age or older taking prescription drugs for treatment of chronic diseases. The type of usual source of care was considered in three aspects: whether having a usual source of care or not, whether having a regular site only or having a regular site and doctor, size of the regular site. The types of usual source of care are heavily associated with medication adherence. Compared to those who have no usual source of care, those who have a regular site only are 1.4 times, and have both regular site and doctor are 1.8 times more likely to comply with the medication guidelines, respectively. The finding shows usual source of care has a positive effect in improving medication adherence of the elderly. The results can provide an evidence for policies for effective management of chronic diseases and efficient use of medical resources.

The research results showed that there were significant differences in positive psychological capital and professor support according to gender, majors, and economic levels. There were significant differences in career preparation behavior according to gender (t=3.52, p<.001), major (F=10.85, p<.001), and career decision (t=4.98, p<.001). There were significant differences in career preparation behavior according to gender, majors, and career decisions. Positive psychological capital (r=.45, p<.001) and professor support (r=.40, p<.001) showed a positive correlation with career preparation behavior. Factors influencing career preparation behavior were majors, career decisions, positive psychological capital, and the explanatory power of these factors was 32.5%. Therefore, effective career and counseling guidance should be planned to increase positive psychological capital according to the major. • The purpose of this study is to analyze the records of 8 people with mental disabilities who had participated in Research and Mutual Help of Bethel's House and to investigate the occurrence of mental crisis and process of self-help by using the grounded theory method. As a result of axial coding, the central phenomenon of crisis experience of the people with mental disabilities was derived as 'being overwhelmed by hardships in the life related to their symptoms'. In the self-help process of overcoming the crisis, Action-interaction strategies were derived as 'talking about the hardships', 'researching and practicing with peers', 'participating in various groups', etc. through the intervening conditions such as 'understanding patterns and meanings of hardships led by the person' and 'finding ways to overcome the hardships with the person'. These strategies were analyzed as a process in which the person with mental disabilities leads his/her life reassuming control over his/her crisis. The result of this study shows that it is necessary to expand the political crisis concept in the support system for the mental crisis of people with mental disabilities, and the self-help approach in which the persons participate autonomously can be useful.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the demand information about services (S/W) and infrastructure (H/W) for rural welfare and culture. The survey was conducted on the overall satisfaction level, the condition change, the importance-satisfaction level of each field and the top priority items for administrative agencies and rural residents. In the overall satisfaction level, administrative agencies responded more than 'normal' to all fields, but the overall satisfaction level was lower than 'normal' in the fields excluding the healthcare field in the case of rural residents. In terms of condition changes compared to the past five years, both administrative institutions and local residents evaluated the improvement. IPA analysis was conducted to identify the priority ranking of each field and it was found that emergency medical facilities in the healthcare field, infant day care facilities in the social welfare field, movie theaters in the culture field, lifelong education institutions and academy facilities in the education field and private sports facilities in the leisure and sports field were most needed, respectively. The results of this study are expected to be helpful in increasing the efficiency and presenting the improvement direction about the development policy of the rural culture and welfare.

Results : The study design of the literature was varied from two-group randomized trial, quasi-experimental study, case-control trial, one group pre-post comparison study, and cross-sectional study. In the evidence level, 6 articles were included in level II (75%). The percentage of low risk of bias in each article ranged from 52.5%~87.5%. Four studies (50%) provided intervention based on virtual reality or virtual environment. The three (37.5%) provided intervention based on the protocol, and the other (12.5%) did wheelchair training. All studies reported significant effects of the intervention. Conclusion : This systematic review provided evidences to use proper intervention in the clinical fields. Various type of studies should be conducted to prove the effect of occupational therapy intervention for community mobility.

  • The purpose of this study was to comparison the effects of aqua-and-land based obstacle training on balance of chronic stroke patients. Subjects were randomly divided into an aqua group(n=15) and d land group(n=15). Both group received obstacle training for 40 minutes, 3 times a week during 12 weeks. Static balance was assessed by measuring the mean velocity of mediolateral, anteroposterior and sway area with the eyes open using Good Balance System. Dynamic balance was assessed by measuring Functional Reaching Test(FRT) and the Timed Up and Go test(TUG). Following the intervention, both groups showed significant changes static balance(the mean velocity of mediolateral, anteroposterior and sway area) and dynamic balance(FRT and TUG). There were significant difference in the mean velocity of mediolateral, anteroposterior, sway area, FRT and TUG between the two groups after the interventions. The results of this study suggest that the aqua group and land group were increase balance functions of chronic stroke patients. The aqua group was significantly higher than the land group for patients with chronic stroke patients. We hope that aquatic training can be useful for patients with chronic stroke patients to improve balance functions and the aqua training research for improve balance functions will be conducted continuously.

According to the results of the study, the disability awareness score of our respondents was average 40.52. Second, female students had more positive about disability awareness than male ones, and senior students had more positive awareness than other grade students. Third, non-rehabilitation department students' disability awareness was more positive than rehabilitation students. Fourth, the disability awareness of people who have a acquaintance member with disability or health worker were significantly positive. Finally, the awareness of people who experienced at the disability related institution were significantly positive. Therefore, to improve the awareness of undergraduate students about disabilities, it is required to activate positive contact experiences with people with disabilities rather than theoretical learning.

  • There has been a sharp increase in the number of grandmothers raising grandchildren in contemporary Korean society. However, little is known about the complexity of the experiences of the custodial grandparenting. Most of the studies mainly examined burden/cost and have paid little attention to the positive aspects of custodial grandparenting. In order to overcome this limitation of previous research, this study aims 1) to examine not only the costs but also the rewards of custodial grandparenting and to explore related factors, 2) to develop the typology based on relative rewards-burden perception of grandmothers about custodial grandparenting and explore the group differences. The data were gathered from 449 grandmothers raising their grandchildren as a primary caregiver, using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, hierarchical multiple regression and ANOVA, with SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Main findings are as follows: First, custodial grandmothers report not only care-giving burden such as physical burnout and economic burden but also various rewards such as joy of watching their grandchildren grow and feeling good about themselves to be a help with their adult children, i.e. grandchildren's father or mother. Second, factors related to the level of perceived cost of grandparenting are different from the factors affecting the positive aspects of grandparenting. Third, results of the two by two cross-tab analysis based on the level of rewards and burden show that about 32 percent of the grandparents belong to Type II group(high rewards-low cost). This result is quite contrary to the assumption of previous research focusing mostly on cost and burden of custodial grandparenting. Fourth, four groups were different in terms of grandmother & grandchildren's characteristics. Implications of these results are discussed.
