Power-Minimizing DVFS Algorithm Using Estimation of Video Frame Decoding Complexity (영상 프레임 디코딩 복잡도 예측을 통한 DVFS 전력감소 방식)

  • Recently, intensive research has been performed for reducing video decoder energy consumption, especially based on DVFS (Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling) technique. Our previous work [1] has proposed the optimal DVFS algorithm for energy reduction in video decoders. In spite of the mathematical optimality of the algorithm, the precondition of known frame decoding cycle/complexity limits its application to some realistic scenarios. This paper overcomes this limitation by frame data size-based estimation of frame decoding complexity. The proposed decoding complexity estimation method shows over 90% accuracy. And with this estimation method and buffer underflow margin of around 20% of frame size, almost same power consumption reduction performance as the optimal algorithm can be achieved.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method for compressing the static video test patterns in high quality to test the picture quality in DTV. In our method, we use the fact that the generated bits and average quantization value have almost identical distribution characteristics per each GOP and we propose a new target bit allocation method suitable for compressing the static test pattern while the target bit allocation method in MPEG-2 TM5 is suitable for the moving picture. The proposed target bit allocation method is to maintain the high quality video continuously by using the normalized complexities which are updated or maintained by means of picture qualities at each GOP. Experiment result showed that the test pattern stream encoded by MPEG-2 software with the proposed algorithm had a stable bit rate and good video quality during the decoding process.

  • We propose an efficient DCT-domain video transcoding algorithm for flexible for bit-rate video communications. Video transcoding provides communication fiexibility by adaptively changing the bit-rate of compressed bit stream. During the transcoding process, adrift error is unavoidable because of the difference between reference images in the series of encoding and decoding. For solving the drift error problem, cascade pixel-domain transcoder (CPDT) has been proposed. CPDT, however, requires highly complex hardware and heavy computational overhead. In this paper we propose a DCT-domain transcoding technique, which enables efficient transcoding without any drift error. The proposed cascade DCT-domain transcoder (CDDT) is realized by new motion compensation and down-sampling methods in the DCT-domain.

  • Mobile game have an advantage of mobility, portability, and simple interface. These advantages are useful for gesture recognition based game which should not have much content quantity and complex interface. This paper suggests gesture recognition based mobile game content with user movement could be applied directly to the mobile game wherever recognition system is equipped. Gesture is recognized by obtaining user area in image from the depth image of TOF camera and going through SVM(Support Vectorn Machine) using EOH(Edge Of Histogram) features of user area. And we confirmed that gesture recognition can be utilized to user input of mobile game content. Proposed technique can be applied to a variety of content, but this paper shows a simple way of game contents which is consisted of moving and jumping newly.

A Watershed-based Texture Segmentation Method Using Marker Clustering (마커 클러스터링을 이용한 유역변환 기반의 질감 분할 기법)

  • In clustering for image segmentation, large amount of computation and typical segmentation errors have been important problems. In the paper, we suggest a new method for minimizing these problems. Markers in marker-controlled watershed transform represent segmented areas because they are starting-points of extending areas. Thus, clustering restricted by marker pixels can reduce computational complexity. In our proposed method, the markers are selected by Gabor texture energy, and cluster information of them are generated by FCM (fuzzy c-mean) clustering. Generated areas from watershed transform are merged by using cluster information of markers. In the test of Brodatz' texture images, we improved typical partition-errors obviously and obtained less computational complexity compared with previous FCM clustering algorithms. Overall, it also took regular computational time.

  • If blueprint of analysis objects is not exist or this blueprint complexes, previous prediction techniques for product design have a problem that do not identify the exact physical characteristics. Even if target for analysing exists, transforming into a format that is supported by the program is a troublesome. To solve these problems, this thesis explains method for easily inputting design drawing and reducing the time of product design. In determining the physical characteristics of the target, method using color information is applied with electromagnetic analysis software to enable the analysis without relation to input type. Methods using color information to identify physical characteristic include some procedures. The first step is to number each of the colors, these colors number information includes material eigenvalues corresponding to the color. Next step analysis electromagnetic phenomena according with color information.

  • A high-speed image processor (HIP) is implemented for a high-speed multi-function peripheral. HIP has a binarization architecture with unified data path. It has the pixel-by-pixel pipelined processing to minimize size of the external memory. It performs pre-processing such as shading correction, automatic gain control (AGC), and gamma correction, and also drives external CCD or CIS modules. The pre-processed data can be enlarged or reduced. Various binarizatin algorithms can be processed in the unified archiecture. The embedded binarization algorithms are simple thresholding, high pass filtering, dithering, error diffusion, and thershold modulated error diffusion. These binarization algorithms are unified based on th threshold modulated error diffusion. The data path is designed to share the common functional block of the binarization algorithms. The complexity of the controls and the gate counts is greatly reduced with this novel architecture.

  • In this paper, we propose an region segmentation and texture based feature extraction method which split the pavement and roadway from the camera which equipped to the visually impaired person during a walk. We perform the hough transformation method for detect the boundary between pavement and roadway, and devide the segmented region into 3-level according to perspective. Next step, split into pavement and roadway according to the extracted texture feature of segmented regions. Our walking assistance system use rotation-invariant LBP and GLCM texture features for compare the characteristic of pavement block with various pattern and uniformity roadway. Our proposed method show that can segment two regions with illumination invariant in day and night image, and split there regions rotation and occlution invariant in complexed outdoor image.

An Analysis on the Copyright Issues Using Cinematographic Works in Libraries (영상저작물 활용에 관한 도서관의 저작권 쟁점 분석)

  • This study investigated the present situation of the use of cinematographic works and the problems of copyright. Surveys were conducted in public and university libraries for these. Also, content analyses were conducted to make sense of copyright problems in libraries. As a result, this study found that problems of copyright had occurred in various aspects related to public performance, lending, digitization and internet services according to the diversity of facilities for watching cinematographic works and library services. Also, the librarians' questions to the copyright were very various from the primary level to specific level. This study suggested that regular courses of study in library schools need to be opened to primitive understanding to copyright law and occupational training programs for librarians need to be opened to complementary education as revisions of copyright law. This study also suggested that the online Q&A services need to be started for librarians who have detailed copyright problems.

Recognition of Fruit in Apple Tree using Color and Morphological Filters (색 변환 및 형태학적 필터를 이용한 사과인식에 관한 연구)

  • This study was attempted to develop the algorithm for recognizing fruits acquired from apple tree images with digital camera in sunlight. As the result of L*a*b* color transformation for reducing the effect of sunlight, a* and b* color index were effective to extract apple pixels in tree images and linear discrimination functions with color index a* b* were developed. To recognize fruits from apple pixels, those were classified into 4 patterns according to clustering condition and morphologically filtered. Test results showed that apple fruits unoccluded were exactly recognized, whereas apple fruits occluded with leaves and trunk were miscounted 2 apples on average.
