In river design, consideration of bed shear stresses is necessary to secure stability of levee and floodplain. In this study distributions of bed shear stresses in compound open channels are analyzed through numerical simulation for various width and depth. LES solver in OpenFOAM is applied to 12 cases of compound channel shapes considering secondary flow which effects distributions of bed shear stresses. By the results time averaged velocity distributions, secondary currents, and distributions of bed shear stresses are analyzed. Overall distributions of bed shears in floodplain show that higher shear stresses are seen in left of floodplain and the shears decrease toward right of floodplain. However, high local variations in shear stresses are shown due to the secondary flow effects. In shallow floodplain, bed shear stresses show low value below 0.8 times of averaged bed shear. In deep floodplain, bed shear stresses show high value over 1.2 - 1.4 times of averaged bed shear.
A new routing computer model for the symmetric compound channel called the ASFMCS (Apparent Shear Force Muskingum-Cung Method in Symmetry) is developed. The Muskingum-Cunge routing method is adapted. The Apparent Shear Force(ASF) between the deep main channel and shallow floodplain flow is introduced while the flow is routed. The nonlinear parameter method is applied. The temporal and spatial increments are varied according to the flow rate. The adaptation of above schemes is tested against the routed hydrographs using the DAMBRK model. The results of general routing practice of Muskingum-Cunge Method (GFMC) are also compared with those of the above two models. The results of the new model match remarkably well with those of DAMBRK. The routed hydrographs show smooth variation from the inflow boundary condition without any distortions caused by the difference of cross-section shape. However, the results of GPMC, showing earlier rising and falling of routed hydrograph, have considerable differences from those of the ASFMCS and DAMBRK.
This study investigated the behavior of sediment bars in a compound channel with a drop structure. Flow was separated into side banks by alternate bars, and flow was concentrated into the downstream of bar fronts. The bed downstream of a drop structure degradated due to the concentrated flow from it. Bar shapes were kept by the influence of their shapes upstream. Alternate bars, central bars, and multiple bars were developed as the width to depth ratio increased, and the number of bars increased. The bar in the downstream of a drop structure decreased in length due to the concentration of flow and its disturbance.
An understanding of the hydraulic characteristics in the compound channel with vegetation is important in designing stream restorations or managing the floodplain. A laboratory flume of 16 m long and 0.8 m wide was used for analysis of the hydraulic characteristics in the single section channel and the compound channel with artificial vegetation. Slope of experimental channel is 0.5 %. Discharges are ranged from $0.2\;m^3/s\;to\;$0.4\;m^3/s$. The experiments were done by changing water depth ratio, vegetation density and vegetation location. When water depth ratio in the single section channel with vegetation increase up to 3.5, the results showed that the increment of water depth due to vegetation may be ignored in practice. The maximum increment of water depth was measured up to 6 % in the compound channel with vegetation and the range of velocities increment in the low flow channel was from 25 % to 85 % compared with section average velocities. As the vegetation densities increase and water depth ratios decrease, the velocity of the low flow channel increased. The range of roughness coefficients in the vegetated reaches were estimated from 0.055 to 0.14 in the single section channel and from 0.063 to 0.085 in the compound channel using HEC-RAS and RMA-2 model.
The Hangang river estuary, which is a natural estuary without structures such as estuary barrage, is an ecological pathway connecting the sea and rivers. Accordingly, Hangang river estuary has various species, and there is very valuable. Sediment classification in Hangang river estuary is three-dimensionally and diversely is distributed. Sediment classification in Hangang river estuary is also sensitively changed according to various factors such as climate change and river development. It is typically cause to landform and to develop a compound cross section. In Janghang wetland, the plant success is remarkable according to the morphological change at river bed. The purpose of this study is to identify the mechanism of wetland formation based on the observation on-site. As a result of the observation, Janghang wetland where was artificially created, has been grown according to the river bed change based on the flow rate and the plant success. The viscous surface layer material(fine grains of wash rod properties), which is not the main material(sand) of the river bed, but sub-materials of river bed, jas been settled on the pioneer plants(bolboschoenus planiculmis, etc.). It is an important role in the growth of a compound cross section and a wetland. After the wetland developed to the compound cross section, it is observed that the pioneer plants are transferred to other plant species.

The aim of this study is to develop crack self-healing concrete and repair materials with the sulfate resistance using geo-materials and by-products for practical industrial application. Research has been done on the healing of cracks in aged concrete, but it seems that very little is known about the actual healing mechanism and its conditions. In this research, the essential properties of geo-materials with pozzolanic reaction for self-healing were analyzed and discussed.
