Recently, agricultural lands decrease sharply, which was caused by urbanization, land consolidation, road construction, and innovation city construction, etc. In particular, Goyang, Chenan and Wonju city were had severe land use change. Therefore, we analyzed changes of land use, soil properties, and soil information in order to provide the basic soil information and soil management practice in these cities. The results are summarized as follows. The area of crop cultivated land in Korea (2011) was reduced to 17.3ha compared to ones from the previous year (2009). The paddy field decreased by 24.2 ha but, upland field increased by 7.0 ha. The reasons for the reduction of the paddy field were converting paddy field to upland (20.7 ha) > public facilities (3.2) ${\geq}$ building (3.2) > idle land (1.3) > and others (0.9). Other reasons for reduction in the upland field were switching upland to paddy field, (20.7 ha) > land developed (4.5) > and restoration (0.3) respectively. The main reason of converting paddy field to upland was changing from rice to more profitable upland or greenhouse crops. The cropland area (paddy fields, upland, orchard) of Goyang, Cheonan, and Wonju city were reduced to 1,466 ha, 9,708 ha and 6,980 ha respectively. The ratio of cropland area in each city was reduced by 45~25% dramatically compared to upland soil survey project in Korea (1995~1999). These data were compared with MiFAFF statistics data to use for land use cover map of Ministry of environment. But they were differences significantly. Therefore, intensive investigation should be advised throughout the utilization plan. The paddy fields located in small valley in Wonju city were changed into upland or orchard. The drainage classes of soil have been deteriorated because the flows of water were intercepted by road construction and other disturbance to water flows. In particular, paddy fields have been changed to not only upland, orchard, greenhouse cultivation but also to fallow and soil dressing on paddy in Wonju city. The soil suitability classes of paddy field in Wonju innovation city were the 3rd grade for 70.8% of the area and the 4th grade for 29.2%. The soil suitability classes of upland was the 4th grade for 88.7% of the area. Fortunately, good soil suitability classes were not belong to innovation city in Wonju. So, the good farm land should be conserved and revise the related law.

As the quantity of HNS sea trasport and the number of HNS accidents at sea are increasing recently, the importance of HNS management is emphasized so that we try to develop marine accident case standard code for making HNS accidents at sea databased systemically in this study. First and foremost, we draw the related requisites of essential accident reports along with internal and external decrees and established statistics of classified items for conducting study, and we referred to analogous standard codes obtained from developed countries in order to research code design. Code design is set like 'Accident occurrence ${\rightarrow}$ The initial accident information ${\rightarrow}$ Accident response ${\rightarrow}$ Accident investigation' in accordance with the general flow of marine HNS accidents of in which the accident information is input and queried. We classified initial accident information into the items of five categories and constructed "Preliminary Information Code(P.I.C.)". In addition we constructed accident response in two categories and accident investigation in three categories that get possible after the accident occurrence as called "Full Information(F.I.C.)", including the P.I.C. It is represented in 3 kinds of steps on each topic by departmentalizing the classified majority as classified middle class and classified minority. As a result of coding marine HNS accident and of the code to a typical example of marine HNS accident, HNS accident was ascertained to be represented sufficiently well. We expect that it is feasible to predict possible trouble or accident henceforward by applying code, and also consider that it is valuable to the preparedness, response and restoration in relation to HNS accidents at sea by managing systemically the data of marine HNS accidents which will occur in the future.

The water supply system has a wider installation range and various components of it than other infrastructure, making it difficult to secure stability against earthquakes. Therefore, it is necessary to develop methods for evaluating the seismic performance of water supply systems. Ground Motion Prediction Equation (GMPE) is used to evaluate the seismic performance (e.g, failure probability) for water supply facilities such as pump, water tank, and pipes. GMPE is calculated considering the independent variables such as the magnitude of the earthquake and the ground motion such as PGV (Peak Ground Velocity) and PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration). Since the large magnitude earthquake data has not accumulated much to date in Korea, this study tried to select a suitable GMPE for the domestic earthquake simulation by using the earthquake data measured in Korea. To this end, GMPE formula is calculated based on the existing domestic earthquake and presented the results. In the future, it is expected that the evaluation will be more appropriate if the determined GMPE is used when evaluating the seismic performance of domestic waterworks. Appropriate GMPE can be directly used to evaluate hydraulic seismic performance of water supply networks. In other words, it is possible to quantify the damage rate of a pipeline during an earthquake through linkage with the pipe failure probability model, and it is possible to derive more reasonable results when estimating the water outage or low-pressure area due to pipe damages. Finally, the quantifying result of the seismic performance can be used as a design criteria for preparing an optimal restoration plan and proactive seismic design of pipe networks to minimize the damage in the event of an earthquake.
Purpose: For estimation of yields of l)NA damages induced by radiation and enhanced by oxygen, a mathematical model was used and tested. Materials and Methods: Reactions of the products of water radiolysis were modeled as an ordinary time dependant equations. These reactions include formation of radicals, DNA damage, damage repair, restitution, and damage fixation by oxygen and H-radical. Several rate constants were obtained from literature while others were calculated by fitting an experimental data. Sensitivity studies were performed changing the chemical rate constant at a constant oxygen number density and varying the oxygen concentration. The effects of oxygen concentration as well as the damage fixation mechanism by oxygen were investigated. Oxygen enhancement ratio(OER) was calculated to compare the simulated data with experimental data. Results: Sensitivity studies with oxygen showed that DNA survival was a function of both oxygen concentration and the magnitude of chemical rate constants. There were no change in survival fraction as a function of dose while the oxygen concentration change from 0 to 1.0 x 10$^{7}$ . When the oxygen concentration change from 1.0 $\times$ 107 to 1.0 $\times$ 101o, there was significant decrease in cell survival. The OER values obtained from the simulation study were 2.32 at 10% cell survival level and 1.9 at 45% cell survival level. Conclusion: Sensitivity studies with oxygen demonstrated that the experimental data were reproduced with the effects being enhanced for the cases where the oxygen rate constants are largest and the oxygen concentration is increased. OER values obtained from the simulation study showed good agreement for a low level of cell survival. This indicated that the use of the semi-empirical model could predict the effect of oxygen in cell killing.
Clonorchis sinensis is the most important widely distributed parasite of the human bile duct in East Asia and the most prevalent parasitic helminth in Korea. The prevalence rate of human clonorchiasis has remained at about 2.9% in Korea. C. sinensis induces dilatation of the duct, hyperplasia of the mucosa, metaplasia or neoplasia of the mucosal epithelium, periductal inflammation and fibrosis, and thickening of the ductal wall. Fibroblast are the most common cells in connective tissue and are responsible for the synthesis of extracellular matrix components. The fibrosis associated with chronic inflammation and injury may also contribute to cholangiocarcinoma pathogenesis, particularly through an increase in extracellular matrix components, which participate in the regulation of bile duct differentiation during development. In this study, ultrastructural changes, the distribution of lectin receptors and actin protein in cultured SD rat bile duct fibroblast after infection of C. sinensis were observed. Experimental group had been divided into four groups: normal bile duct fibroblast cultured in basal media (G1); C. sinensis infected bile duct fibroblast cultured in basal media (G2); normal bile duct fibroblast cultured in basal media containing excretory-secretory product (ESP) (G1-1); C. sinensis infected bile duct fibroblast cultured in basal media containing ESP (G2-1). Overall, once a host is infected by C. sinensis, it affects the host to the extent that sialic acid of ductal fibroblast is increased. Number of cytoplasmic process of SD rat bile duct fibroblast was increased. Actin protein and sialic acid were located in cell surface. Fibroblast induced by C. sinensis was not recovered to normal fibroblast. The cytoplasm bulk and cytoplasmic process were increased whereas the growth rate of the fibroblast of infected SD rat was reduced rather than that of normal fibroblast. In result, it inhibits fibroblast proliferation and increases actin protein on fibroblast cytoplasm, and so causes fibroblast metamorphosis and cellular mutation.
Weed control using cover crops has advantages of agricultural and environmental aspects which prevent soil erosion, nitrogen supply, improving soil physical properties, reduction of nitrate leaching, organic supply and control of weed occurrence. In this study, we evaluated the inhibitory effects of cover crops on the weed occurrence, growth and yield of soybean in cover crop-soybean cropping system. The treatments were consisted of 4 different mulching system such as crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum) residue, hairy vetch (Vicia villosa) residue, rye (Secale cereale) residue and Polyethylene plastic(P.E.) mulch with no mulch treatment (control). Three cover crops were grown throughout the winter and were cut in next spring. And then 13 days old soybean seedlings were transplanted in each treatment field on $4^{th}$ June. Crimson clover, hairy vetch and rye mulch treatments reduced weeds density compared to control (73.0%, 98.0% and 85.3% respectively), on $26^{th}$ May. However, weed inhibition rate of crimson clover mulch treatment was sharply decreased to 4.17% on $6^{th}$ August, while hairy vetch and rye mulch treatments were continued high weed inhibition rate with 87.6% and 72.0% respectively. There was no inhibition effect of perennial, winter annual and broadleaf weeds inhibition in crimson clover mulch treatment. Height of soybean in crimson clover, hairy vetch and P.E. mulch treatment was 6.9%, 20.2% and 22.0% higher than that of control. But height of soybean in rye mulch treatment was lower than control on $13^{th}$ July. At harvesting, yields of soybean were in order of hairy vetch mulch treatment${\fallingdotseq}$ P.E. mulch treatment > crimson clover mulch treatment ${\fallingdotseq}$ rye mulch treatment > control.
Recent interest in geological heritage has been increased in that it can be used as a basic data onto predicting the global environmental change of its containing information about past global environment. In addition, due to the characteristics of the geological heritage, it is easy to damage and difficult to recover without continuous preservation and management. However, there are more damages occurring because of the sporadic spatial distribution and ambiguous management authority of geological heritage. Therefore, an integrated management system is needed by determining the spatial distribution of geological heritage preferentially. In this study, the detailed criteria for assessment of value from the preliminary studies were applied and the geological heritage grade distribution map was generated by using geospatial data in Seoul metropolitan area. For this purpose, the list of geological heritage sites in the Seoul metropolitan area, which is the study area, were complied through a literature review. The geospatial database was designed and constructed by applying the detailed criteria for assessment of value from the preliminary studies. After the construction of the spatial database, a grade map of the geological heritage was created. As a result of the geological heritage grade map in the Seoul metropolitan area, there were more than 35% of the geological heritage in northern Gyeonggi provinces such as Yeoncheon city (18.8%), Pocheon city (10.6%) and Paju city (6.3%). It is followed by 18.1% in Incheon and 8.1% in Ansan, which is approximately 26.2% in western Gyeonggi Province. The geological age of the geological heritage was the highest at in the fourth stage of the Cenozoic era of 16.9%. Through the results of this study, the geological heritage data of the Seoul metropolitan area were extracted from existing literature data and converted into spatial information. It enables comparing the geological features with the spatial distribution of geological heritage. In addition, a management system has been established based on spatial information of constantly building geological heritage data. This provides the integrated management system of the geological heritage to manage authority so that it can be used as a basis for the development of the geological park. Based on the results of this study, it is considered to be possible to systematically construct and utilize the geological heritage across the country.
Background: An imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants leads to oxidative stress, and this has been proposed to play an important role in the pathogenesis of lung neoplasm. Apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease-1/redox factor-1 (APE/ref-1) is a multifunctional protein involved in DNA base excision repair and the redox regulation of many transcription factors. However, the alteration of the expressed levels of APE/ref-1 in non-small cell lung cancer is unknown. Material and Method: Forty-nine patients with surgically resected non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were included in this study. Immunohistochemical staining with APE/ref-1 antibodies was performed, and their expressions were analyzed via Western blotting for specific antibodies. Result: APE/ref-1 was localized at the nucleus and mainly in the non-tumor region of the NSCLC tissue specimens; it was expressed in the cytoplasm and nucleus of the NSCLC. The nuclear and cytoplasmic expressions of APE/ref-1 in lung cancers were markedly up-regulated in the NSCLC, and this was correlated with the clinical stage. Catalase, as first-line antioxidant defense, was dramatically decreased in the NSCLC. Conclusion: Taken together, our results suggest that APE/ref-1, and especially cytoplasmic APE/ref-1, was upregulated in the lung cancer regions, and this may contribute to the compensatory defense system against oxidative stress. A low expression of catalase might have fundamental effects on the extracellular redox state of lung tumors, along with the potential consequences for the tumors.
This study was performed to compare the effects of hydrocolloid(Duoderm$\circledR$, HC in this study) and hydrogel (Nu-Gel$\circledR$, HG in this study) occlusive dressing materials on degree of exudate, wound contraction, epithelialization, and healing of full-thickness skin wound in dogs. Three wounds measuring 2${\times}$2 cm in size were created bilaterally(6 wounds/dog) on the dorsolateral aspect of the trunk of 12 dogs. In each dog, the wounds were treated with HC, HG, and normal saline, respectively. For a 4 week period, the wounds were evaluated gross aspects and histopathological aspects. There were no statistically significant differences between treatment groups in percentage of wound contraction, percentage of epithelialization, and percentage of wound total healing during the first week. Significant differences were first detected on day 14. On day l4(P < 0.01) and 21 (P < 0.05), mean percentage of epithelialization of HG-treated wound was significantly greater than those in HC- and normal saline-treated wound. Mean percentage of wound contraction of HG-treated wound was significantly greater than that in HC- and control wounds on day 21(P< 0.05). On day 21, mean percentage of wound healing of HG-treated wound was significantly greater than that in HC- and control wounds(P < 0.02). On day 1, 4, and 7 after wound creation, although severe infiltration of PMN (polymorphonuclear leukocyte) cells in HC- and control wounds were observed in the subcutis and moderate infiltration of PMN cells in HG-treated wound were observed in the subcutis, we did not detect significant differences. On day 14 after wounding creation, in the wounds treated with HG dressing, epithelial cells were found over the surface, and edema further decreased in the tissue under the wounds, and the granulation tissue was replaced with collagen fibers. On day 21 after wound creation, in HG-treated wound compared with other experimental material-treated wounds, regenerated epidermis covered most of the wound surface, and the granulation tissue was more replaced with collagen fibers than that on day 14. Overall results indicated that the use of hydrogel dressing materials(Nu-Gel$\circledR$) as hydrocolloid dressing (Duoderm$\circledR$) materials and normal saline treatment on full-thickness skin wounds in dogs increased the rate of healing at repair stage.

Piperine [(E,E)-5-(3,4-methtylenedioxyphenyl)-2,4-pentadienolypiperidide] is a principal of Piperaceae, including Piper nigrum L. and Piper longum Linn., which has been used as a spice and traditional medicine. In this study, we investigated whether or not piperine has anti-cancer effects on AGS human gastric cancer cells. The results demonstrated that piperine not only inhibited proliferation using MTT assay but also induced apoptotic bodies using DAPI assay in a dose-dependent manner in response to piperine. Expression levels of p53, Bax (pro-apoptotic), cleaved caspase-9, and cleaved-PARP increased, whereas expression levels of Bcl-2, XIAP (anti-apoptotic), and Akt decreased in a dose-dependent manner compared with the control by western blotting analysis. To identify the connection between phospo-Akt and Bcl-2 family in response to piperine, LY249002 (Akt inhibitor) was treated with piperine ($150{\mu}M$). The results were shown that expression of phospo-Akt was reduced whereas expression of Bax and cleaved-PARP increased in a dose-dependent manner. These results indicate that piperine induced apoptosis in AGS cells and may serve as a chemopreventive or therapeutic agent for human gastric cancer.
