보행중 스마트기기 사용에 따른 교통사고 위험성 연구 (A Study on the Risk of Traffic Accidents using Smart Devices while Walking)

  • This study was conducted to test the impacts of distractions caused by smartphones on pedestrians whilst walking alongside or across vehicular traffic in a high-density urban zone in South Korea. Through this study, we propose objective evidence for a link between the risk of traffic accidents and distractions from smartphones for pedestrians because of less likely notice activities surrounding road along their walking. This means that smartphones usage may cause inattentional blindness even during a simple activity that should require few cognitive resources. We conducted an experiment comparing pedestrian behavioral patterns of walking with smartphone distractions (such as listening to music with earphones or sending text messages) and normal walking without any distractions. In the experiment, participants walked along a pedestrian path prescribed by researchers and were observed at 8 points which were as follows: two observation points through which participants were instructed to listen to music whilst walking, two points where participants were instructed to send text messages, and four points through which participants were instructed not to use a smartphone at all. According to pedestrian behavior analysis, there is a trend for attention to be distributed amongst whatever other activities pedestrians are doing whilst walking. Therefore, this study proposes that pedestrians walking with such distractions are at a higher risk of traffic accidents compared to those who walk without such distractions. Thus, we advise for the South Korean government to consider ways to traffic policy that will enhance traffic safety for pedestrians.

스마트시티 서비스 니즈 도출을 위한 사용자 행위 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on User Behavior Analysis for Deriving Smart City Service Needs)

  • 최근 사용자 중심의 스마트시티 서비스에 관한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 본 연구는 사용자 중심의 스마트시티 서비스를 계획하 기 위한 사전 연구로 사용자의 니즈를 조사하였다. 본 연구는 스마트시티 서비스에 대한 니즈를 도출하기 위해 GIS 기반 위치분석데이터와 비디오 에스노그래피 방법론을 활용하고자 한다. 본 연구는 스마트시티 테스트베드로 선정된 대전 도안지구의 현장조사를 통해 사용자의 집객도가 높은 지역을 세부조사대상지로 선정하고, 도로교통공단의 교통사고분석시스템(TAAS : Traffic Accidents Analysis System)의 위치분석데이터를 이용하여 주변 보행환경을 함께 조사하였다. 또한 비디오 에스노그래피의 고정카메라기법을 통해 사용자의 행위 유형과 변화를 관찰하였다. 추출된 영상데이터를 통해 사용자의 활동을 11개의 세분화 된 유형으로 분류하고, 관찰되는 문제점 및 특이사항을 분석하였다. 본 연구를 통해 조사된 사용자 행위특성은 향후 사용자 중심 스마트시티 서비스를 제안할 수 있는 근거를 마련한다는 점에 의의가 있다.

학교와 인접한 회전교차로 보행자 사고심각도 영향요인 분석 (Analysis on the Accident Factors of Pedestrian Accident Severity in Roundabout Near School)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors affecting the roundabout accidents near schools. This study gives particular attentions discussing characteristics by pedestrian accident severity using the ordered logit models. In pursuing the above, 63 roundabouts installed before 2014 are surveyed for modeling. the traffic accident data from 2014 to 2016 are collected from TAAS data set of Road Traffic Authority. Such 35variables explaining the accidents as environment, human, geometries, school and roundabout factor are selected from literature reviews. The main results are as follows. First, the ordered logit models (${\rho}^2$ of 0.272, $x^2$ of 24.723) which is statistically significant have been developed. Second, environment factor variable is analyzed to be day or night ($X_1$ ), human factor variables are evaluated to be driver gender($X_4$), older driver($X_5$), pedestrian gender($X_7$) and children pedestrian($X_8$ ). Third, geometries factor variable are analyzed to be speed limit sign($X_{16}$) and median barrier($X_{21}$), school factor variables are evaluated to be hump-type crosswalk($X_{25}$), CCTV($X_{26}$) and school zone sign($X_{27}$), roundabout factor are analyzed to be roundabout sign($X_{30}$) and number of circulatory roadway lane($X_{32}$). Finally, this study could give some implications to decreasing the accidents severity at roundabout near schools.

어린이 보호구역 내에서 발생한 6-14세 어린이들의 보행 중 교통사고에 대한 역학적 조사 (An Epidemiological Study for Child Pedestrian Traffic Injuries that Occurred in School-zone)

  • Objectives: Pedestrian traffic injuries have been an important cause of childhood mortality and morbidity for decades. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological characteristics of child pedestrian traffic injuries that occurred during 2000 in one metropolitan city and its school-zones, and to determine the factors associated with those accidents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in 2001. Police records were used to identify the cases of pedestrian injury. Children aged between 6 and 15 years, injured during road walking, were included in this study. A direct survey of the environmental factors within the school-zones in study area (n=116) was also performed. Self-administered questionnaires, via mail and telephone surveys, were used to assess the safety education programmes. The schools were divided into two groups according to the occurrence of pedestrian traffic injuries in their school-zone. Results: Pedestrian injuries (n=597) were found to account for 3.2% of all traffic injuries in the subject area. The epidemiological characteristics were not significantly different between genders. There were some significant risk factors within the environmental factors, such as local road (OR: 2.3, 95% CI=1.05-5.35), heavy traffic volume (OR: 2.2, 95% CI=1.00-5.04), poor visibility of speed-limit signs (OR: 2.8, 95% CI=1.25-6.42), no separation of pedestrian routes from cars (OR: 2.6, 95% CI=1.02-6.75) and barriers on the pedestrian routes (OR: 2.2, 95% CI=1.01-5.08). Only one factor, that of education in a safety-park (OR: 0.3, 95% CI=0.09-0.96), was significantly associated in the traffic and pedestrian safety education factors. Conclusion: Significant associations with pedestrian injury risk were identified in some of the modifiable environmental factors than in the educational factors.

LS-DYNA 프로그램을 이용한 차량과 가드레일의 충돌해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Crash Analysis of Vehicle and Guardrail using a LS-DYNA Program)

  • 본 연구는 차량의 도로이탈을 방지하고, 충격량을 흡수하여 차량 탑승자 및 도로주변의 인도를 횡단하는 보행자를 보호하기 위한 차량용 방호울타리에 관한 연구로서 LS-DYNA를 이용해 탑승자 보호성능 평가시험을 시뮬레이션하였으며, 다양한 속도와 각도를 변경하여 반복 시뮬레이션을 하여 충돌조건에 따른 탑승자 보호성능을 고찰하였다. 시뮬레이션을 위한 변수의 설정은 국내차량 판매대수에 따른 평균차량의 중량을 구하고, 미국 NHTSA의 NASS를 분석하여 실제 사고가 발생하는 속도와 충돌각도구간을 검출하였다. 그 결과로 충돌속도와 충돌각도가 커질수록 THIV(탑승자 충격속도)와 PHD(탑승자 가속도) 값이 증가하는 것을 확인하였으며, 차량이 가드레일의 지주에 걸리는 현상이 발생할 때 탑승자보호성능이 크게 저하되는 것을 확인하였다.

Positive Guidance를 활용한 국도 마을통과구간 안전성 향상 방법론 (The Safety Improvement of National Highways through Small Towns with Positive Guidance)

  • 최근 마을 중심부를 통과하는 일반국도 구간에서 교통량 증가와 지나치게 높은 차량속도로 인해 교통사고 위험성이 높아지고 있다. 마을 내 넓은 도로와 중앙분리대, 좁은 보도 및 화단은 보행자에게 매우 위험하며 지역 주민들의 생활환경까지 파괴하고 있다. 이러한 문제는 국도 마을통과구간이 소규모 마을과의 조화를 고려하지 않고 단순히 도로 기능 향상에 초점을 맞추어 2차로에서 4차로로 확장된데 그 원인이 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해 우회도로 건설 및 기능 재분류를 통해 설계속도를 낮추는 방법이 있으나 많은 비용과 시간을 투자해야 하는 어려움이 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 국도 마을통과구간에 대한 안전성 향상을 위해 적은 투자로 높은 효율을 낼 수 있는 Positive Guidance 기법을 활용하여 사례분석을 실시하고 개선방안을 도출하였다. 분석 결과, 국도 마을통과구간에서 가장 큰 문제점은 차량의 높은 속도였으며 감속을 위한 시설 및 정보조차 적절히 제공되고 있지 않았다. 이에 대한 해결책으로 감속시설의 설치와 적절한 정보제공의 필요성을 밝히고 개선대안을 제시하였다.

택시 영상DB를 활용한 교통약자 보행자 사고의 심각도 분석 (Severity Analysis for Vulnerable Pedestrian Accident Utilizing Vehicle Recorder Database of Taxi)

  • This study proposes severity analysis for pedestrian accidents by improving variables which were used for general severity analysis. The existing variables were collected based on the interviews with policeman or witnesses and evidence of accidents. Therefore, existing variables were subjective and had several measurement errors. In order to improve such problems, this study collected variables from vehicle recorder of taxi which recorded the moment of accidents. As a result, explanatory power of independent variables was enhanced and the complete objective variables could be collected. After collecting variables, ordered probit model was developed by utilizing vehicle recorder database. Fitness of ordered probit model was 0.23. Vehicle speed and pedestrian's eye direction variables were the most critical factors for severity of pedestrian accident. In addition, severity analysis for vulnerable pedestrian was carried out. As a result, it was revealed that vehicle speed, pedestrian's eye direction and safety zone variables affected the severity of pedestrian accidents most. Particularly, vehicle speed variable is the most important factor. Consequently, driver's defensive driving and compliance to the regulations are the priority to reduce severity of pedestrian accidents and prevent pedestrian accident.

공동주택 단지 내 교통사고 저감을 위한 보행환경 개선에 대한 기초연구 - 경기도 화성시 동탄면 동탄2신도시 사례 중심으로 - (A Basic Study on the Improvement of Pedestrian Environment to Reduce Traffic Accidents in Multi-family Housing Complex - Focused on Dongtan 2 New Town in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province -)

  • New towns and large multi-family housing complexes are being built in the capital region of Korea, with the goal of creating safe and pedestrian-friendly cities. Traffic accidents in such residential complexes, however, is on the rise, creating social problems. While there have been many previous studies on problems with pedestrian environment; there is a dearth of studies that take design-based approach to ensure safety in pedestrian environment within residential complexes. Therefore, this study aims to prevent traffic accidents by properly planning pedestrian environment within multi-family housing complexes, in addition to emphasizing theories related to planning safer pedestrian environment in general. This study found the following design directions required to improve the design theory of pedestrian safety in multi-family housing complexes: (1) Linking traffic facilities and residential complex spaces in Korea; (2) Considering implementation of United Kingdom road systems; (3) Establishing appropriate objectives for each residential complex based on case study. In response to these findings, the study selected the A84BL complex in Hwaseong Dongtan 2 Complex located in Dongtan-myeon, Hwaseong-si in Gyeonggi Province, Korea. Items that can be implemented, as well as spatial design directions, were discussed with a focus on private vehicles, pedestrians, and service vehicles.

서울시민의 보행과 건강증진에 관한 시스템 사고 기반의 구조 탐색 (A systems thinking approach to explore the structure of urban walking and health promotion in Seoul)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to examine systems behavior of urban walking by analyzing a dynamic structure in Seoul, South Korea. Methods: As a systems thinking approach to urban walking and health promotion, we developed a Casual Loop Diagram based on literature review and expert consultation. The reviewed literature included: 1) qualitative studies that explores the experiences of urban walkers in Seoul; 2) a systematic review study on the built environmental factors related to walking; 3) policy research reports related to urban walking in Seoul. Results: The feedback structure for urban walking was related to the three urban environments (safety & walking environment, socioeconomic environment, and public transportation environment), and was characterized by a trade-off consisting of eight reinforcing loops and four balancing loops. Conclusions: The policies for a walkable city require multi-sectoral cooperation in order to change the causal loop structure related to the decline of walking. Therefore, it is necessary to establish legal and institutional conditions so that multi-sectoral and multidisciplinary approaches are possible.

드론을 활용한 옥외광고물 안전도 검사 방안에 관한 연구 (Research on the Safety Inspection Plan of Outdoor Advertising Safety Using Drone)

  • 옥외광고는 일정한 장소의 건축구조물의 외형에 고정되는 형태가 일반적이므로 건물 및 주변 환경과의 조화가 요구된다. 이러한 옥외광고물은 자연, 건축, 거리경관을 고려한 심미적 요소가 조화롭게 배치되어야 하며, 법적 규제로 인한 실행 제한이 많은 것이 현실이다. 옥외광고물의 안전도 검사는 옥외광고물의 노후화된 상태, 규격 및 설계도서와 일치여부 등을 판단하기 위해 시행하고 있는데, 노후화된 광고물의 경우 도시의 심미적 요소를 저해할 뿐만 아니라, 차도나 보행로로 떨어지는 사례 등이 발생하여 안전적 측면에서 주기적인 검사가 시행되고 있다. 그러나 현재의 안전도 검사는 건축물 입면의 높은 간판을 심사할 때 인사사고가 발생할 위험이 있으며, 건물의 입면에 고정된 옥외 광고의 구조물은 심도 있게 검사를 시행하여 내용을 파악하기가 어렵다. 이에 본 논문에서는 드론을 활용한 옥외광고물 안전 점검 체계를 제고하고자 하며, 나아가 안전 점검 주기, 유지보수, 간판 제거 등 시설점검 이력 관리 방안을 제시하고자 한다.
