Pedestrian Detection Using Ultrasonic Distance Sensors Based on Virtual Driving Environments (가상주행환경 기반 초음파 센서의 승합차 측면 보행자 인식)

  • In shuttle vans designed to transport children, the recognition of a child's approach and departure is very important. Ultrasonic sensors are generally used for a short distance around a vehicle. Although ultrasonic sensors are cheaper than other ADAS sensors, the number of sensors installed in a van should be optimized. In order to recognize the presence of a child around a shuttle van, this paper proposes the placement of ultrasonic sensors in the van. Considering the turning radius of the van and the distance from each sensor to a child, collision risk is classified as 'safe', 'warning', and 'danger'. The sensor placement and the recognition algorithm are verified in a virtual driving environment.

  • 본 논문은 손 모양 인식을 이용한 비전 기반의 보행 로봇 제어 시스템을 제안한다. 손의 모양을 인식하기 위해서 움직이는 카메라 영상으로부터 정확한 손의 경계선물 추출하고 추적하는 일이 선행되어야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 민 시프트 방법을 사용한 활성 윤곽선 모델 기반의 추적 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 손 추출기, 손 추적기, 손 모양 인식기 그리고 로봇 제어기, 4개의 모들로 구성된다. 손 추출기는 영상에서 미리 정의된 손의 모양을 가지는 피부색 영역을 추출한다. 추출된 손의 추적은 활성 윤관선 모델과 민 시프트 방법을 사용하여 실행된다. 그 후 Hue moments를 사용하여 추적된 손의 모양을 인식한다. 제안된 방법을 평가하기 위해서 본 논문에서는 2족 보행 로봇 KHR-1에 제안된 방법을 적용 한다.

Analysis of Plantar Foot Pressure and Pathway of COP Depending on Inclination of Descending Ramp (내림 경사로의 기울기에 따른 족저압과 압력중심이동경로 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different ramp inclination on the maximum plantar foot pressure and pathway of the center of pressure. Fifteen healthy adults who had no musculoskeletal disorders were participated with this study and descended the ramp with different inclination(level, $-5^{\circ}$, $-10^{\circ}$, $-15^{\circ}$). Plantar foot pressures were recorded by the Matscan system(Tekscan, Boston, USA) during level and descending ramp with barefoot. Plantar foot surface was defined as seven regions for pressure measurement; two toe regions, three forefoot regions, one midfoot region, one heel region. Repeated ANOVA was used to compare each region data of foot according to different ramp inclination. As descending ramp inclination became increased, the pressure of hallux region was significantly increased at $-15^{\circ}$ inclination and the pressure of 2-3 metatasal head region were significantly decreased at $-5^{\circ}$, $-10^{\circ}$, $-15^{\circ}$ inclination. The pathway of COP had a tendency to be shifted inside in forefoot and prolonged to great toe as the descending ramp inclination increased. The results indicated that plantar foot pressure could be changed at hallux and forefoot regions with $-5^{\circ}$ ramp inclination and these findings demonstrated that ramp inclination could affect the structure and function of foot.

A study on detection method of traffic lights using Spotlights and MSER regions detection (Spotlights와 Maximally Stable Extremal Regions)영역 검출 기반의 조도변화에 강인한 교통신호등 검출 방안)

  • 교통 신호등은 운전자 혹은 보행자들의 뚜렷한 시인성 확보를 위해 가능한 주위 배경과 구분되는 색상, 모양, 질감 등으로 구성하여 설치되어 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 결국 기존 교통 신호등 검출 연구들에서는 대부분 교통 신호등의 색상과 모양을 기반으로 한 검출 연구가 주류를 이루고 있는 것이 사실이다. 하지만, 외부 날씨, 복잡한 시내, 다른 물체와의 겹침 등의 문제로 인해 색상 및 모양 기반의 교통 신호등, motion blur, 검출 오류가 증가 되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 입력 영상에서 색상정보를 배제하고 motion blur나 밝기 변화에 덜 민감하고 먼 거리에서도 뛰어난 시인성을 가진 spot light 검출을 통해 입력 영상에서 가장 밝은 교통표지판 후보 영역들을 검출한다. 그리고 교통 신호등의 특징인 가능한 원형을 유지하고 있으며 원형 외부 색상과 내부 색상이 현저하게 두드러지는 영역을 maximally stable extremal regions (MSER) 알고리즘을 사용하여 입력 영상에서 후보 영역을 선택한다. 마지막으로, 검출된 영역들에서 교통 신호등 영역을 검출하기 위해 템플릿 매칭 방법을 적용한다. 제안한 방법을 도로 상에서 실험한 결과, 평균 94% 이상의 검출율을 제시하였고, 특히 야간 시간대에 검출율이 비교적 높게 제시되었다.

Assessment of Basic Physical Activity for Elderly Women in Long-Term Care Facilities (요양시설 거주 여성노인의 기초신체활동 측정 평가)

  • This study was to investigate basic level of physical activity test that reflects activity of daily living(ADL) for institutionalized elderly women. The subjects were 105 elderly women over than 65 years living in long-term care facilities located in Daejeon and Chungnam. The measured eight items related to ADL were tested and the data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, factors analysis and correlation. The results were statistically significant differences. Among eight test items, two factors(muscle strength and mobility) were extracted by principal component factor analysis(PCA). The two factors are appropriate domains for assessment of basic physical activity of institutionalized elderly women. By using Pearson's correlation, between two factors and age, the first principal component scores were significantly decreased with age increasing. Degradation of ADL must be prevented for institutionalized elderly women through maintain muscle strength and mobility.

  • The study examined how age-friendly their living environments the aged perceived and it's significant difference depending on their characteristics. The subject were 96 old persons who aged more than 60 years and lived in Nagasaki city, Japan. They asked how far each neighborhood facility related to the aged was located from their houses, and the age-friendliness of walk way, traffic, multi-family houses for the aged, and interior space of their living houses. Data were collected by using one to one interview. Results were as follows: 1) Most neighborhood facilities related to the aged were located within a walking distance or 10 min. distance by bus from their houses. 2) Among 5 areas of living environments, while traffic, house interior, and pedestrians road were relatively age-friendly, the amount of multi-unit dwellings for the elderly and the usability of wheelchair users in house interior were not age-friendly. 3) Age and education level of the aged influenced on the age-friendliness of their living environments.

  • The Context-Awareness technology which can provide the appropriate information to the human after estimating a lot of information exceeds the time and space in the ubiquitous environment is being developed now. GIS (Geographic Information System) and LBS (Location Based Services) based context awareness is one of these kinds of technology. The context awareness based transfer guide service which can provide useful information, according to the different information which was got from different sensors which were set in different places, to the pedestrian who is using the transfer center will be introduced in this paper. About the result of the service prototype which was tested in test-bed, the context awareness information such as the inside location and density calculation's accuracy is 90%, and the response time of the service is in 10 seconds, and also, the reliability will be higher if more advanced based infra will be used, so it is consider that it can be used to provide service enough.

  • In this paper, we propose a tracking and recognition of pedestrian/vehicle for intelligent multi-visual surveillance system. The intelligent multi-visual surveillance system consists of several fixed cameras and one calibrated PTZ camera, which automatically tracks and recognizes the detected moving objects. The fixed wide-angle cameras are used to monitor large open areas, but the moving objects on the images are too small to view in detail. But, the PTZ camera is capable of increasing the monitoring area and enhancing the image quality by tracking and zooming in on a target. The proposed system is able to determine whether the detected moving objects are pedestrian/vehicle or not using the SVM. In order to reduce the tracking error, an improved camera calibration algorithm between the fixed cameras and the PTZ camera is proposed. Various experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system.

Multi-legged robot system enabled to decide route and recognize obstacle based on hand posture recognition (손모양 인식기반의 경로교사와 장애물 인식이 가능한 자율보행 다족로봇 시스템)

  • In this paper, multi-legged robot was designed and produced using stable walking pattern algorithm. The robot had embedded camera and wireless communication function and it is possible to recognize both hand posture and obstacles. The algorithm decided moving paths, and recognized and avoided obstacles through Hough Transform using Edge Detection of inputed image from image sensor. The robot can be controlled by hand posture using Mahalanobis Distance and average value of skin's color pixel, which is previously learned in order to decide the destination. The developed system has shown obstacle detection rate of 96% and hand posture recognition rate of 94%.

Detection of Pavement Region with Structural Patterns through Adaptive Multi-Seed Region Growing (적응적 다중 시드 영역 확장법을 이용한 구조적 패턴의 보도 영역 검출)

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive pavement region detection method that is robust to changes of structural patterns in a natural scene. In order to segment out a pavement reliably, we propose two step approaches. We first detect the borderline of a pavement and separate out the candidate region of a pavement using VRays. The VRays are straight lines starting from a vanishing point. They split out the candidate region that includes the pavement in a radial shape. Once the candidate region is found, we next employ the adaptive multi-seed region growing(A-MSRG) method within the candidate region. The A-MSRG method segments out the pavement region very accurately by growing seed regions. The number of seed regions are to be determined adaptively depending on the encountered situation. We prove the effectiveness of our approach by comparing its performance against the performances of seed region growing(SRG) approach and multi-seed region growing(MSRG) approach in terms of the false detection rate.
