Analyzing Pedestrian Characteristics Using the Seoul Floating Population Survey: Focusing on 5 Urban Communities in Seoul (서울시 유동인구조사자료를 활용한 보행특성 분석: 서울시 5개 생활권역을 중심으로)

  • This paper analyzes and compares the pedestrian characteristics of 5 urban communities with 2012 Seoul floating population survey data. First of all, differences in total pedestrian volumes and time distribution of the volumes are compared across the 5 urban communities and the effects of pedestrian road properties are investigated. Then, we conduct a regression analysis to find factors influencing pedestrian volume according to the type of urban community and day of week. As results, the urban community had the greatest volume and the volume increased significantly at lunch time. Center bus lane, bus stop, and crosswalk lead to more trips in the urban community, while opposite patterns occurred in the other communities. Less slopes and commercial region areas caused more trips in all communities. Regression analysis results showed that a variety of variables including demographic indices, land use type and pedestrian road properties differently affect pedestrian volumes in individual urban communities. The research can be used as basic data to establish polices for pedestrian environment improvement.

Real-Time Interested Pedestrian Detection and Tracking in Controllable Camera Environment (제어 가능한 카메라 환경에서 실시간 관심 보행자 검출 및 추적)

  • This thesis suggests a new algorithm to detects multiple moving objects using a CMODE(Correct Multiple Object DEtection) method in the color images acquired in real-time and to track the interested pedestrian using motion and hue information. The multiple objects are detected, and then shaking trees or moving cars are removed using structural characteristics and shape information of the man , the interested pedestrian can be detected, The first similarity judgment for tracking an interested pedestrian is to use the distance between the previous interested pedestrian's centroid and the present pedestrian's centroid. For the area where the first similarity is detected, three feature points are calculated using k-mean algorithm, and the second similarity is judged and tracked using the average hue value for the $3{\times}3$ area of each feature point. The zooming of camera is adjusted to track an interested pedestrian at a long distance easily and the FOV(Field of View) of camera is adjusted in case the pedestrian is not situated in the fixed range of the screen. As a experiment results, comparing the suggested CMODE method with the labeling method, an average approach rate is one fourth of labeling method, and an average detecting time is faster three times than labeling method. Even in a complex background, such as the areas where trees are shaking or cars are moving, or the area of shadows, interested pedestrian detection is showed a high detection rate of average 96.5%. The tracking of an interested pedestrian is showed high tracking rate of average 95% using the information of situation and hue, and interested pedestrian can be tracked successively through a camera FOV and zooming adjustment.

A Study on the Cognitive Judgment of Pedestrian Risk Factors Using a Second-hand Mobile Phones (중고스마트폰 업사이클링을 통한 보행위험요인 인지판단 연구)

  • In order to secure pedestrians' right to walk, we have up-cycled second hand mobile phones to overcome limitations of the existing survey methods, analysis methods, and diagnosis to reduce pedestrian traffic accidents. Second hand mobile phones were up-cycled to produce mobile CCTVs and installed in areas where pedestrian deaths rate is high to secure image data sets for the period of more than 24 hours. It was analyzed by applying image visualization technology and clouding reporting technology, and more precise and accurate results were derived through modeling based on artificial intelligence learning and GIS-based diagnostic guidance. As a result, it was possible to analyze the risk factors and number of pedestrian safety, and even factors that were not known in the existing method could be derived. In addition, the traffic accident risk index was derived by converting data into one year to verify whether second hand mobile phone up-cycling mobile CCTV will be an objective tool for finding pedestrian risk factors. Up-cycling mobile CCTV of second hand mobile phones newly applied through research can be used as a new tool to find pedestrian risk factors, and it can be used as a service to protect the safety of the traffic vulnerable other than pedestrians.

Vertical Evacuation Speed in Stairwell of a High-rise Office Building (업무용 고층건물 계단실의 보행속도에 관한 연구)

  • As building height is increased, more careful decisions about the required safe egress time is needed for evacuation. This study analyzed the influence of three training sessions on the vertical speed of evacuation in the high rise building. Evacuation experiments were done in a high-rise office building in Seoul, and we analyzed the vertical evacuation speed as a function of density using a camera. Controlled and uncontrolled total evacuation were compared using the Pathfinder simulation. The process of repeated training, changed the specific stair utilization rate from 6.3% to 39.5%. The vertical evacuation speed as a function of density was analyzed using the equation s = 1.004 ? 0.288D, which is very similar to the equation used in a different study. The total evacuation time of the special controlled total evacuation was reduced by about 25% compared to the simultaneous evacuation.

The effects of microcurrent stimulation for gait improvement (미세전류 자극이 보행 개선에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was conducted to apply microcurrents of $500{\mu}A$ effective for ATP generation to leg muscles to which delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) had been induced in order to examine whether the microcurrent stimulation was effective for gait improvement. Forty subjects were randomly assigned to an experimental group of 20 subjects and a placebo group of 20 subjects. Microcurrents were applied immediately after inducing DOMS and 24 hours and 48 hours thereafter and changes in the center of pressure (COP), cadence, and affected stance phases were measured. According to the results of the measurement, changes in the COP, cadence, and affected stance phases at 48 hours after the induction of DOMS were statistically significant compared to the values before the induction. The COP of the experimental group became statistically significantly lower and the ratio of affected stance phases of the experimental group became statistically significantly higher compared to the placebo group at 48 hours after the induction of DOMS. Therefore, $500{\mu}A$ microcurrents showed effects for gait improvement by promoting the recovery and healing of damaged muscles.

Modelling of Transfer Impedance of Urban Rail Station (도시철도역사의 환승저항 모형 구축 연구)

  • It is necessary to improve transfer impedance of Urban Rail Station station users in order to increase the usage of public transportation. This study constructed a model for calculating transfer impedance based on bodily sensational transfer time in Urban Rail Station stations and calculated transfer impedance on major Urban Rail Station stations in Korea. The study results show that the addition of 100 meter exterior walking distance increases 2 minute travel time, 100 meter interior walking distance increases 3 minute travel time, 100 stairways increase 4 minute travel time, and escalators decreases 1 minute travel time. The calculated transfer impedance based on bodily sensational transfer time in this study can be utilized as objective criteria to compare transfer conditions of different Urban Rail Station stations and to prioritize them for facility improvement. The calculated transfer impedance also can be used as facility guidelines for designing a new transit center.

A Signal Optimization Model Integrating Traffic Movements and Pedestrian Crossings (차량과 보행자 동시신호최적화모형 개발 연구)

  • Conventional traffic signal optimization models assume that green intervals for pedestrian crossings are given as exogenous inputs such as minimum green intervals for straight-ahead movements. As the result, in reality, the green intervals of traffic movements may not distribute adequately by the volume/saturation-flow of them. In this paper, we proposed signal optimization models formulated in BMILP to integrate pedestrian crossings into traffic movements under under-saturated traffic flow. The model simultaneously optimizes traffic and pedestrian movements to minimize weighted queues of primary queues during red interval and secondary queues during queue clearance time. A set of linear objective function and constraints set up to ensure the conditions with respect to pedestrian and traffic maneuvers. Numerical examples are given by pedestrian green intervals and the number of pedestrian crossings located at an arm. Optimization results illustrated that pedestrian green intervals using proposed models are greater than those using TRANSYT-7F, but opposite in the ratios of pedestrian green intervals to the cycle lengths. The simulation results show that proposed models are superior to TRANSYT-7F in reducing delay, where the longer the pedestrian green interval the greater the effect.

Effects of Walking Speeds and Cognitive Task on Gait Variability (보행속도변화와 동시 인지과제가 보행 가변성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify effects of walking speed and a cognitive task during treadmill walking on gait variability. Experiments consisted of 5 different walking speeds(80%, 90%, 100%, 110% and 120% of preferred walking speed) with/without a cognitive task. 3D motion analysis system was used to measure subject's kinematic data. Temporal/spatial variables were selected for this study; stride time, stance time, swing time, step time, double support time, stride length, step length and step width. Two parameters were used to compare stride-to-stride variability with/without cognitive task. One is the coefficient of variance which is used to describe the amount of variability. The other is the detrended fluctuation analysis which is used to infer self-similarity from fluctuation of aspects. Results showed that cognitive task may influence stride-to-stride variability during treadmill walking. Further study is necessary to clarify this result.

A Comparison Between Existing Lamp and LED Pedestrian Signals By Field Study (기존신호등과 LED 신호등 현장평가 비교 분석)

  • 현재 설치되어 있는 교통신호기의 차량등과 보행자등은 전력소모와 유지관리 측면에서 매년 많은 비용을 지불하고 있는데 서울시의 경우 '97년 1년동안 전기요금 15억원, 유지관리비용 70억원을 지불하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 에너지 절약 및 유비보수비용 절감을 이한 방안중의 하나로써 LED 교통신호등에 대한 산·학·연의 관심이 고조되고 있다. 그러나 국내에서는 LED신호등에 대한 현장평가실험 및 규격서 제정작업 전혀 이루어지지 않은 상황으로 LED 신호등의 기술개발 및 상용화에 대비한 평가실험 및 기준정립이 요구된다. 본 연구는 한국에너지기술연구소에서 개발한 LED 보행자 신호등을 대상으로 보행자의 인지반응시간, 전력소모량, 시인성, 판독성 등에 대한 현장조사를 실시하여 안정성 및 적용성을 평가하였으며, 경제성분석을 통해 보급타당성을 제시하였다. 본 연구결과는 향후 제정될 LED 교통신호등 규격작업의 기초자료로 활용되며, LED 신호등의 현장적용시 기술적 안정성을 추구하는데 일조를 할것으로 판단된다.

A Study on the Implementation of Ambulatory Monitoring System Using Wireless Data Communication Network (무선 데이터 통신망을 이용한 보행형 감시 시스템 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Since a Holter monitor records a patients' ECG when he is in motion, it can monitor complex heart disease effectively. But it can not handle a sudden heart disease because the diagnosis process will be done only after 24 hours. So in this study, a model of ambulatory monitoring system using wireless data communication network is proposed. And a mobile ECG equipment and a doctors' terminal are developed for the proposed system implementation. As a result, we can evaluate that the proposed ambulatory monitoring system is suitable for the management of ambulatory patients who may be at risk form sudden cardiac abnormalities.
