  • During the course of play, children gain special experience in a place where they can explore their surrounding environment and feel emotional stability. This experience of attachment to the place of play is very important in that play can serve as a measurement of the child's growth and development. Therefore, the environment surrounding the child should be understood as a meaningful place that affects a child's life beyond the place of play. The purpose of this study is to propose a spatial planning method where the formation of place attachment is considered in the design of child care facilities, as this is where preschool children spend much of their early formative years. The research methods are as follow: First, we surveyed the relationship between child development and place attachment through literature reviews and found that the factors that form place attachment were summarized as accessibility, complexity, segmentation and nature friendliness. Second, we examined the spatial characteristics of Mitsuru Senda, a Japanese architect who has been intensively studying children's play environments, as well as the characteristics of children's play proposed by his academic research. Finally, we analyzed the relationship between the spatial characteristics supporting play shown in Senda's work, and the four factors of place attachment formation and proposed a planning method for space design applicable to child care facilities.

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the moderated-moderated mediating effects of children's media content selection and parental restrictive media mediation on the relationship between children's screen media time and executive function difficulties. Methods: A total of 693 parents of children aged 5~6 years participated in this study and were asked to answer all survey questions. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and correlation analysis using SPSS 27.0. Model 11 of PROCESS macro 4.3 was used to examine the moderated-moderated mediation model. Children's gender, age, childcare enrollment status, and household income were included in the analyses as covariates. Results: The moderated-moderated mediating effects of children's media content selection and parental restrictive media mediation were found to be significant. Specifically, bedtime mediated the relationship between screen media time and executive function difficulties only when parents did not appropriately implement restrictive mediation and children freely selected media content. Conclusion/Implications: It is recommended that parents understand the importance of implementing restrictive media mediation and selecting appropriate media contents for their child to prevent executive function difficulties in early childhood. Also, child education or day-care centers should offer education program about appropriate media use to reach more parents.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine and compare the perceptions of mothers about the Nuri curriculum for 5-year olds. The subjects were 382 mothers whose 3-5-year old children went to kindergartens (192 mothers) and daycare centers (190 mothers). The findings were as follows: First, the majority of the mothers knew that the Nuri curriculum for 5-year olds started to be carried out in 2012, but many of them weren't told about the details at all. Second, the mothers considered the Nuri curriculum necessary, and were roughly satisfied with the ongoing Nuri curriculum for 5-year olds. Third, there was no difference in the mothers' perceptions of environmental factors required for the Nuri curriculum. Fourth, the mothers whose children went to kindergartens chose warm and enthusiastic character as important quality of teachers. The mothers whose children went to daycare centers chose friendly and caring character as important qualities of teachers. Fifth, the mothers perceived that the Nuri curriculum was relatively useful for the qualitative improvement of early childhood education and childcare. Sixth, the majority of the mothers didn't have their children transfer to another early childhood education institution after the Nuri curriculum for 5-year olds was carried out.

  • The objective of this study is to understand the operational status of the support projects for childcare in daycare centers operated by the Support Centers for Childcare(SCC) during the COVID-19 pandemic and find ways to improve and develop the project operation. To this end, data were collected and analyzed through in-depth interviews from the 1st week to the 4th week of February 2022 with six childcare agents in charge of the support projects for childcare in daycare centers in the SCC located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. As a result of the study, it was found that the demand for diversification of project operation methods, expansion of non-face-to-face education, individual consulting, and small-scale education increased while operating the support projects for childcare in daycare centers in the SCC during the COVID-19 pandemic. Operational difficulties were found to be a lack of ability to use media, the burden of coping with unpredictable situations, and insufficient communication between daycare centers and childcare policy institutions. As for the support needs, it was found that it is necessary to employ computer specialists, establish an environment for activating online education, and provide an efficient work delivery system in emergencies.

  • The purpose of the study was to review the literature with the following three themes : 1) the necessity and benefits of inclusion for young children with severe disabilities, 2) the solutions to overcome the concerns for the inclusion of young children with severe disabilities, and 3) the implication for the inclusion of young children with disabilities in Korea. The results of the study indicated that it was necessary to support pre-service and in-service early childhood education teachers to be professional educators who can create the most effective inclusive educational environments. As well, the results showed that teachers, parents, and relevant professionals need to use various strategies to activate inclusive education for young children with severe disabilities. Based on the review, the study provided the instructional strategies and educational implications for the effective inclusion of young children with severe disabilities.

  • In the last several decades of 20 century, the user oriented design concept has evolved in more concrete ways, producing POE and UPD(User Participated design). These concepts are ways of achieving the fit between built environments and human needs. These, technique in the digital world has implied and promoted lots of experimental ways to interact with possible users before the construction stages in the design process to reduce the results, stemming from ineffective planning and designing. The purpose of this paper is to show an evaluation technique in the design cycle. An actually designed child care facility was evaluated before construction by potential users. For this purpose, focused group interview was employed.

  • In this study, we measured the concentration of Particulate Matter($PM_{10}$), Formaldehyde(HCHO), and Total Bacteria Count (TBC) at two facilities: day care centers, and postnatal care centers located in the cities of Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Jeolla and Gyeongsang from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2015. $PM_{10}$ concentration was similar to the day care centers and postnatal care centers. HCHO concentration was the highest in the postnatal care centers. TBC concentration was the highest in the day care centers. Comparing the different cities, $PM_{10}$ concentration was the highest in Gyeonggi, HCHO concentration was the highest in Gyeonggi, and TBC concentration was the highest in Gyeonggi. As a result of HCHO's risk assessment, it was found that adults exceeded the carcinogenicity tolerance of $10^{-6}$ specified by the US EPA. This study is expected to be helpful in preventing damage to health from the contaminated indoor air at sensitive facilities, and can be used as basic data for indoor air quality management.
