This study stereotyped the media on the basis of ideological inclinations and media types and explored the news coverage through word analysis, network analysis, and frame analysis. There was no difference between conservative media and progressive media in terms of the amount of news. The conservative mainstream media considered the THAAD rumor as an unnecessary misunderstanding and a rumor based conflict of the south-south. The progressive mainstream media mentioned much about Hwang Gyoan, external influences, and lies and highlighted the government's opinion that there was external influence that spread a vicious rumor. Conservative media mentioned on the bringing about social disturbance and in case of progressive media mentioned social disturbance, and progressive media mentioned the responsibility of government and the attitude of conservative media about the diffusion of the rumor. In conclusion the press framed the THAAD rumor on the basis of their ideological inclinations instead of the role of journalist.
This study utilized a semantic network analysis for Korean major newspaper articles concerning 'Bernie Sanders'. 'Bernie Sanders' promotes conservative values of 'Americana' as well as the progressive values of 'relieving inequality', and thus, perhaps he is a subject on which ideological differences between the press can be distinctively manifest. Upon comparison of the priority of frequency between the conservative press and progressive press, the conservative press frequently used the expressions, 'socialist' and 'black man', whereas the progressive press frequently used the expressions, 'inequality' and 'problem'. Both the conservative press and progressive press displayed particularly different semantic compositions with the term, 'Korea'. The progressive press aimed to express the criticism of social problems and established politics identified by Sanders in relation to the 'Korean' society, whereas the conservative press criticized the blunt expressions stating that a specifically named politician resembles Sanders, and the specific party and term of 'Korea'. A completely different disposition of reports from different perspectives and context was ascertained, regardless of the use of the same terms. Thus, it is demonstrated that the semantic composition of the press on a specific issue displays significant differences according to their ideological disposition.

According to medias, the issue related to the presidential records were analyzed by comparing the specific keywords in terms of persons, entities, actions. At the results, It is possible to identify the reporting patterns and components of the presidential records related issues. And the difference of media characteristics according to news media tendency was derived.
This study examined how newspapers covered the 60th anniversary of the historical event, 8 15 Independence Day. Specifically, five newspapers from three countries were content-analyzed to see differences, if any, based on country level and political ideology of the newspaper. The findings showed that Japanese newspapers yielded less amount of coverage than those of Korea and China. The newspapers of Korea and China used straight news format, while Japanese newspapers used opinion news format. In terms of information source, Korean newspapers and Chinese newspapers mainly relied on the information from the government, while Japanese newspapers took the information from citizen. The difference also revealed that Korean newspapers focused on domestic situation frame and the other countries more emphasized past memory of the War times. Consequently, the three countries showed clearly different perspectives on the same historical event. These distinctions were caused from national interest rather than political ideology of the newspaper.
This study analyzed the contents of articles on GMO in Chosun Ilbo and Hankyoreh from 1994 through 2015 to check the trend of reporting on GMO as a science and technology risk issue. As a result, 'risk' and 'anxiety/concern' were continuously treated as important subjects, and there was a lack of depth and journalist's professionalism in all three periods: 'Introduction of GMO technology (1994-2000)', 'Development of GMO technology (2001-2010)' and 'Social acceptance of GMO (2011-2015).' In a comparison between the media with different ideological goals, the Chosun Ilbo had a stronger new-technological inclination to GMO than the Hankyoreh in reporting topics and tones of arguments. As a result of checking the relation of the tones in reporting with the 'risk-benefit' of GMO, reports in negative tones underlined 'risk' while those in positive tones, 'benefit.' This study could suggest improvements of subject bias and unprofessionalism in the domestic science journalism, the barometer of public awareness of disputes over science and technology risk.
The purpose of this study was to examine what kind of images were presented on movie stars in the newspaper. For the purpose, we classified the time period according to the movie industry and media trend, selected representative stars by period, and collected 798 related articles reported in newspapers. As a result of analyzing the reporting trend, domestic and foreign topics, news format, and gender difference in collected movie star articles, it was found that the image of movie stars reproduced in newspaper articles had mostly neutral images that do not represent specific gender. Since the 2000s, news coverage was changed to reproduce various images rather than being fixed to particular images, and the subject of report became more diversified through comparison of domestic and foreign topics. In addition, articles in the form of book review decreased and the interview-type articles increased in number, and in the case of male movie stars, the proportion of articles based on works was high in comparison to female movie stars. This study has significance in that it explored the changes in the process of reproducing star images diachronically from the initial stage of stars to the modern times. And it is hoped that this study will serve as basic data for the follow-up studies on the process of reproducing various images in the multi-media era.

Institutions, organizations, media companies, and government channels reported spread of false information as well as fact-oriented reporting. The progressive channel had a high percentage of positive sentiment in favor of vaccination, and the conservative channel had a high percentage of negative emotion against vaccination. After the vaccination started, the number of videos on government channels increased, and it was found that the number of videos with positive emotions increased. Results of regression analysis of video characteristics that affect the number of likes indicated that personal expert videos and videos from progressive channels received more likes. Combining the research results, we propose a plan to promote government policies regarding the COVID-19 vaccine using social media.
This study explored how South Korean newspapers covered North Korea's second nuclear test in May of 2009. Findings show that South Korean newspapers mostly reported North Korea's nuclear experiment in relatively negative tones. Their coverage mainly focused on the influences of nuclear threat from the North on the military, political and economic areas in South Korea. However, the media's agenda settings and frames were not similar in terms of each paper's political and ideological inclination. Whereas the progressive papers, such as the Hankyoreh and the Kyunghyang Shinmun, recognized that the current nuclear issue in Korean peninsula is getting worse because of South Korea's rigorous pressure on North Korea, the conservative papers, such as the Chosun Ilbo and the Donga Ilbo, see that the deadlock between North and South mainly comes from the system malfunction of North Korea. To prevent the current impasse, the left-side papers emphasized to develop the six-party talk in dealing with North Korean issue, while the right-wing papers paid attentions to the West's sanctions on North Korea and ensuring national security.

Analysis research was conducted on the 'Chosen Ilbo,' 'Donga Ilbo,' 'Hankyoreh' and 'Kyunghyang Newspaper' on news reporting frame and sources regarding the North Korean population's living and status of their respective conditions throughout South Korean administrations of Kim Dae-jung, Roh Mu-hyuen, and Lee Myung-Bak. Resulting first and second frame analyses showed that the four newspapers showed clear distinctions in their execution and attitude in their reports in accordance to the philosophies of each 'progressive/left-wing newspapers' and 'conservative/right-wing newspapers'. Moreover, the first and second analyses showed that the reports mimicked each individual presidential administration and their political policy regardless of the newspaper's political voice. In terms of the usage of 'anonymous sources,' conservative newspapers were found to use them more frequently than their counterpart, the liberal newspapers. In conclusion to the overall analyses, with the continued tension between the International community and North Korea, the reports of North Korean inhabitant activities are inevitably portrayed in a negative tone in effort to plant a distorted view to the South Korean citizens. Furthermore, this manipulation of the press may affect the credibility of South Korean press in terms of the topic of North Korean culture.
