The Convergence Effects of Nursing Organizational Culture, Workplace Bullying, and Hospital Violence Attitude on Psychological Wellbeing among Clinical Nurses (간호조직문화, 직장내 괴롭힘, 병원폭력에 대한 태도가 간호사의 심리적 안녕감에 미치는 융합적 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between nursing organization culture, workplace bullying, hospital violence attitude, and psychological wellbeing. Data were collected from April 12, 2018 to April 23, 2018 for 107 nurses working at university hospital. The relationship between nursing organizational culture, workplace bullying, hospital violence attitude, and psychological wellbeing was analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient. The linear regression was used to identify the factors that affect the psychological wellbeing of the variables. Psychological wellbeing and workplace bullying showed a negative correlation, whereas psychological wellbeing, awareness of hospital violence attitude, innovation-oriented culture and relationship-oriented culture showed positive correlations. Relationship-oriented culture and awareness of hospital violence attitude showed 17.3% explanatory power on psychological wellbeing. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop a nursing organizational culture improvement program that can enhance the psychological wellbeing of nurses.

Experience of Violence and Hospital Violence Attitude according to Gender and Gender-Role Identity of Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 성별, 성역할정체감에 따른 병원폭력 경험과 병원폭력에 대한 태도)

  • Purpose: This study aims to examine differences in experiences of violence and hospital violence attitude according to gender and gender-role identity of clinical nurses. Methods: The quota sampling method, was used to select the research subjects. They were divided into two groups male and female nurses who worked for three general hospitals or higher level-hospitals in Incheon and Gyeongbuk. The data of 219 subjects was used for final analysis. The IBM SPSS 22.0 was used to analyze the data t-test and ANOVA. Results: According to gender, the hospital violence experience of female nurses was oserved frequently when the verbal violence came from guardians, and when the physical threats came from others. For male nurses, the experiences of hospital violence was obserbed. According to gender, the hospital violence attitude revealed significant differences in female nurses that the negative attitude was higher (t=-4.69, p<.001). According to gender-role identity, the undifferentiated and femininity showed significant differences (F=4.86 p=.003). Conclusion: The differentiated strategies of coping measures and violence preventive education considering the gender and gender-role identity of clinical nurses would help formulate measures for the effective management of hospital violence.

The Effects of the School Violence Prevention Program Using Temperament (기질을 활용한 학교폭력 방관자 프로그램의 효과 검증)

  • We tried to develop the school violence prevention program which focuses on the bystanders. In the context of school violence, most students are bystanders. They can either reinforce the violence or stop the violence. We hypothesized that the students who know their own temperament dimensions such as novelty seeking, harm avoidance, and reward dependence (Cloninger, 1994) will show more tendencies to defend victims from school violence when they learned the methods to prevent school violence in accordance to their temperament dimensions. 351 Korean middle school students participated the 4 sessions of school violence prevention program. The students completed the questionnaires to identify their own behavior in school violence situations. In the experimental group(temperament group), students learned the methods to help the victims that suits with their own temperaments. Whereas, the comparison group just attend the class regardless of their temperaments. Both groups showed significant increase in the trend of defending the victims. However, the temperament group showed more tendency to protect/defend the victims than the comparison group when they faced with school violence. These results show that students can learn the methods of defending victims from school violence more easily by knowing their own temperament dimensions, and can be the prepared and the effective defenders.

Revalidation of the Hospital Violence Attitude Scale-18 (HVAS-18) in Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 병원폭력에 대한 태도 측정도구 신뢰도, 타당도 재검증)

  • The purpose of this study was to revalidate the 'Hospital Violence Attitude Scale-18 (HVAS-18) in clinical nurses'. 150 clinical nurses from three general hospitals in two cities participated in this study. Data were collected from March to April in 2017. The collected data were analyzed using factor analysis, Pearson correlation coefficients, and Cronbach's alpha. The final HVAS-14 consisted of fourteen items and four factors emerged, which explained 74.1% of the total variance. These four factors were labeled: Factor 1 (3 items) 'awareness' which explained 20.3%; Factor 2 (4 items) 'response' which explained 20.2%; Factor 3 (3 items) 'reaction' which explained 15.5%; and Factor 4 (4 items) 'result' which explained 15.4%. The internal consistency and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), as measured by Cronbach's alpha, were both .87, and the reliability of the subscales ranged from .78 to .86. The results of this study indicate that HVAS-14 is a useful, reliable and valid instrument to measure the hospital violence attitude of clinical nurses.

Development and Validation of the Hospital Violence Attitude Scale-18 (HVAS-18) for Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 병원폭력에 대한 태도 측정도구 개발)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a Hospital Violence Attitude Scale-18 (HVAS-18) for clinical nurses. Methods: The HVAS-18 was developed and validated in 3 steps: Item generation through literature reviews and in-depth interviews, pilot study, and the validity and reliability tests using a test-retest technique. Forty-one items were initially extracted by 8 experts, and 18 items were finally developed by item and factor analysis. The final HVAS-18 was evaluated by 326 clinical nurses from seven general hospitals in three cities. The collected data were analyzed using factor analysis, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$. Results: Five discrete factors emerged, which explained 64.0% of the total variance. Each five factor was labeled: Factor 1 (6 items) 'awareness'explained 18.2%; Factor 2 (4 items) 'response' explained 12.9%; Factor 3 (4 items) 'reaction' explained 12.9%; Factor 4 (2 items) 'result-nursing' explained 10.2%; and Factor 5 (2 items) 'result-violence offender' explained 9.6%. The internal consistency, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, was .87, and reliability of the sub-scales ranged from .72 to .83. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that HVAS-18 can be an useful, reliable, and valid instrument for measuring hospital violence attitude of clinical nurses.
