Memory Allocation Scheme for Reducing False Sharing on Multiprocessor Systems (다중처리기 시스템에서 거짓 공유 완화를 위한 메모리 할당 기법)

  • In shared memory multiprocessor systems, false sharing occurs when several independent data objects, not shared but accessed by different processors, are allocated to the same coherency unit of memory. False sharing is one of the major factors that may degrade the performance of memory coherency protocols. This paper presents a new shared memory allocation scheme to reduce false sharing of parallel applications where master processor controls allocation of all the shared objects. Our scheme allocates the objects to temporary address space for the moment, and actually places each object in the address space of processor that first accesses the object later. Its goal is to allocate independent objects that may have different access patterns to different pages. We use execution-driven simulation of real parallel applications to evaluate the effectiveness of our scheme. Experimental results show that by using our scheme a considerable amount of false sharing faults can be reduced with low overhead.

  • In this paper, a new equivalent circuit for a defected ground structure(DGS) is proposed and adapted to design of a power amplifier for performance improvement. The DGS equivalent circuit presented in this paper consists of parallel LC resonator and parallel capacitance to describe the fringing fields due to the etched defects on the metallic ground plane, and also is used to optimize the matching circuit of a power amplifier. A previous research has also used a DGS for harmonic rejection and efficiency improvement of a power amplifier(1), however, there was no exact equivalent circuit analysis. In this paper, we suggest a novel design method and show the performance improvement of a class AB power amplifier by using the equivalent circuit of a DGS applied to output matching circuit. The design method presented in this paper can provide very accurate design results to satisfy the optimum load condition and the desirable harmonic rejection, simultaneously. As a design example, we have designed a 20W power amplifier with and without circuit simulation of DGS, and compared the measurement results.

  • In this paper, we propose the design of an optimized fuzzy cascade controller for rotary inverted pendulum system by means of Hierarchical Fair Competition-based Genetic Algorithms (HFCGA) which is a kind of parallel genetic algorithms. The rotary inverted pendulum system is the system for controlling the inclination of pendulum axis through the adjustment of rotating arm. The control objective of the system is to control the position of rotating arm and to make the pendulum maintain the unstable equilibrium point of vertical position. To control rotary inverted pendulum system, we designs the fuzzy cascade controller scheme consisted of two fuzzy controllers and optimizes the parameters of the designed controller by means of HFCGA. A comparative analysis between the simulation and the practical experiment demonstrates that the proposed HFCGA based fuzzy cascade controller leads to superb performance in comparison with the conventional LQR controller as well as HFCGA based PD cascade controller.

Comparison of the Fuel Economy of Series and Parallel Hybrid Bus System Using Dynamic Programming (동적 계획법을 이용한 직렬형 및 병렬형 하이브리드 버스 시스템 연비 비교)

  • There are lots of studies about hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) because of the global warming and energy problems. Series and parallel HEVs are the common types of many developing hybrid vehicle types. Series HEV uses engine only as the generator for the battery but parallel HEV utilizes engine for driving and generating of the vehicle. In this paper, backward simulations based on dynamic programming were conducted for the fuel economy analysis of two different types of hybrid transit buses depending on driving cycles. It is shown that there is a relation between the type of HEV and the characteristics of driving cycles. Regarding the aggressiveness, the series hybrid bus is more efficient than the parallel system on highly aggressive driving cycle. On the other hand, the parallel hybrid bus is more efficient than the series system on low aggressive driving cycle. Based on this results of the paper, it is expected to choose more efficient type of the hybrid buses according to the driving cycle.

  • This paper proposes an low-complexity soft-output multiple-input multiple-output (soft-MIMO) detection algorithm for achieving soft-output maximum-likelihood (soft-ML) performance under max-log approximation. The proposed algorithm is based on a parallel tree-search (PTS) applying a channel ordering by a sorted-QR decomposition (SQRD) with altered sort order. The empty-set problem that can occur in calculation of log-likelihood ratio (LLR) for each bit is solved by inserting additional nodes at each search level. Since only the closest node is inserted among nodes with opposite bit value to a selected node, the proposed node insertion scheme is very efficient in the perspective of computational complexity. The computational complexity of the proposed algorithm is approximately 37-74% of that of existing algorithms, and from simulation results for a $4{\times}4$ system, the proposed algorithm shows a performance degradation of less than 0.1dB.

  • In this paper, we design the 4-bit phase shifter which have $22.5^{\circ},45^{\circ},90^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$ phase shift by applying the loaded line and switched network phase shifter. Its phase shift is variable with changing of the stub and passive device parameters. The experiments show the 6.5 dB average insertion loss and $10^{\circ}$ average phase error at center frequency, 6GHz. The results of experiment agree well with the theories except $180^{\circ}$ phase shifter.

  • We have been developing an underwater robot for harbour construction using a parallel mechanism The robot is attached to the rope of a crane, which curries a large stone into the undersea The robot's yaw and pitch are controlled by hydraulic cylinders but its roll is uncontrollable. We mount propellers in both side of the robot to generate the roll motion This paper studies on the control for the roll motion of a underwater robot. A gyro-sensor is used to measure the angle in a roll motion We develop the dynamic model to describe the robot's roll motion by a second order non-linear system and identify the model parameters by recursive least square and adaptive identifier. PD control, recursive model based control and adaptive model based control are applied with the dynamic model which computes the control input to compensate disturbances. This paper introduces the underwater robot system and presents the simulated and experimental results of the proposed controller.

MPPT and Yawing Control of a New Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbine with Two Parallel-Connected Generators (수평 병렬형 풍력 발전기의 요각 및 MPPT 제어)

  • Commonly used horizontal-axis wind turbines (HAWT) have the following structure: two or three blades, a nacelle which contains power converting equipments, generators, and a tower which supports the nacelle. The generated power is transmitted from the nacelle to the ground. Due to this structure, the power transmission lines are twisted when the nacelle is yawing. Thus, slip ring or additional yaw control mechanism is required. We propose a new structure of HAWT which is free of this transmission line problem. Moreover, the size of inverter can be reduced since two generators are connected in parallel in our mechanism so that power is distributed. A controller for yawing is developed so that it works in harmony with the controller for power generation. A MPPT (Maximum Power Point tracking) algorithm is implemented for the proposed system and efficiency of the system is validated by simulation.

  • Ths paper describes the Dual-band switch which was proposed new structure that could improved the specification of broadband and designed by the optimized structure through simulation. The Dual-band switch with 2.4[GHz]/5.8[GHz] that can apply to 802.11a/b/g system that is commercialized present was studied to get a new structure with higher power, high isolation. The transmitter of switch was designed to operate a parallel switching element with stack structure of two FET. The receiver designed to have asymmetry structure that insert series FET in addition to basic serial/parallel FET. SPDT(Single Pole Double Throw) Tx/Rx FET switch is a device that can do switching from a port of input to two port of output. The fabricated SPDT switch has the characteristic of insertion loss of a below -3[dB] form DC to 6[GHz] and the isolation of a below -30D[dB](Rx mode).

Sparse Signal Recovery with Parallel Orthogonal Matching Pursuit and Its Performances (병렬OMP 기법을 통한 성긴신호 복원과 그 성능)

  • In this paper, parallel orthogonal matching pursuit (POMP) is proposed to supplement the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) which has been widely used as a greedy algorithm for sparse signal recovery. The process of POMP is simple but effective: (1) multiple indexes maximally correlated with the observation vector are chosen at the firest iteration, (2) the conventional OMP process is carried out in parallel for each selected index, (3) the index set which yields the minimum residual is selected for reconstructing the original sparse signal. Empirical simulations show that POMP outperforms than the existing sparse signal recovery algorithms in terms of exact recovery ratio (ERR) for sparse pattern and mean-squared error (MSE) between the estimated signal and the original signal.
