  • In this study, change motivation for growth and development is defined as 'the power to set a specific action direction for change based on the perception of one's current behavior in order to achieve a goal that one considers important, and to be willing to act'. In addition, the purpose of this study was to develop and validate a scale to measure the motivation for change for growth and development of general adults. To develop preliminary questions, interviews were conducted with 7 coaching experts and 9 experienced coaches, and an open-ended questionnaire was conducted with 55 adults. Afterwards, 7 factors and 83 questions were selected through three rounds of item classification and content validity verification, and a preliminary survey was conducted targeting 321 general adults, and 42 items, 4 factors, were derived through exploratory factor analysis. did Finally, the main survey was conducted with 631 adults in order to verify the validity of the construct concept of the change motivation scale and the validity of the criterion. Divided into two groups, 315 people in group 1 conducted exploratory factor analysis and 316 people in group 2 conducted confirmatory factor analysis to verify the concept of change motivation scale. As a result of the factor analysis of Group 1, it was found that the 3 factor structure consisting of 31 items was appropriate, and as a result of the confirmatory factor analysis of Group 2, the goodness of fit of the modified model of the 3 factor structure was confirmed, which motivated change. The construct validity of the scale was demonstrated. As a result of analyzing the correlations with various variables for the analysis of convergent validity and criterion-related validity of the Motivation for Change scale, each of the three factors was found to be significantly related to most variables. Finally, the significance, implications and limitations of this study, and future research were discussed.

  • The objective of this study is to examine the motivation for renaming and the self-perception scale attained after renaming. The survey was conducted targeting 161 individuals across the country from April 1 to May 31, 2013. The analyzing methods include frequency analysis, correlation analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA analysis and stepwise regression analysis, etc. All of the empirical analysis was verified at the 5% level of significance. According to the result of analysis, the renamed individuals scored higher on the success scale, the emotional scale and the personality scale after renaming. The study found that the individuals, who adopted a new name as per their own desire, scored significantly higher on the self perception scale. The study will serve as a reference material for persons who desire a new name, based on its result that the greatest motivation for renaming is the "desire to have a good name" and that the biggest changes accompanying the new name are the self confidence and satisfaction which have helped the renamed individuals score higher on the self-perception scale after renaming.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of virtual reality-based activities of daily living (ADL) training on ADL and rehabilitative motivation in patients with traumatic brain injury. Methods : This study was performed using a pre-post design with seven traumatically brain injured patients. Subjects were subjected to virtual reality-based ADL training for 30 minutes a day, 2 to 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Evaluation was conducted before and after the intervention using the Korean Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI), Cognitive Functional Independence Measure (C-FIM), and Volitional Questionnaire (VQ). Changes before and after intervention were analyzed by Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and correlations were analyzed using Spearman's coefficient. Results : After intervention, patients with traumatic brain injury showed significant improvements in K-MBI (p<.05). There was no significant change in total C-FIM score and VQ score (p>.05). Total C-FIM score correlated significantly with VQ score (p<.05, r=.755). The social cognition domain of C-FIM had a significant correlation with VQ score (p<.05, r=826). Conclusions : Virtual reality-based ADL training can improve ADL performance, but further research is needed to determine whether improvements in social cognition and rehabilitative motivation are possible.

  • This study analyzes the surveys of attitudes toward science, the peer relationship, the achievement motivations, and the parents' attitudes to science gifted education. It have been conducted to 53 scientifically gifted and 120 non-gifted students. The findings from the analyses suggest that there exist few meaningful differences in the attitude toward science, the motive for achievements and the peer relationship except in the parents' attitude to the gifted student education. This means that the recognition and the attitude of the parents have great influences on non-gifted students especially female students in the process of resolving to take future directions to science fields and choosing the gifted education center. Accordingly, we are in dire need of the changes in the social recognition of science and it is strongly recommended to seek for the ways of promoting science and supporting engineering graduates at the level of nation, thereby establishing legal and institutional foundations to make effective human resource arrangements.

  • Self-directed learning ability is more important than before. It is well-known that traditional teacher-directed lecture class, seminar-like oral presentation class, and even discussion/debate class have not been enough to enforce self-directed learning ability for students. To resolve the problem, a new dynamic complex instruction model (DCIM) was developed for undergraduate and graduate students and a basic frame of DCIM was published by Oh (2010). Here, it is examined if the application of DCIM to a biology class of graduate school can cause improvement of self-directed learning ability. For this, the self-directed learning readiness scale (West & Bentley, 1990) translated by Ryu (1997) and motivation scale (Hayamizu. 1997) translated by Oh (2001) were employed, and then measurements performed with the translated scales were done in the beginning and the last of two DCIM-adapted graduate biology classes at K university, Daegu, South Korea in the first semester of the year 2010. The results show that self-directed learning ability could be significantly improved through the DCIM-adapted class, compared to the result of a teacher-directed lecture class as a control group. With respect to the motivation, there was not found any statistically significant difference between control and experiment groups of graduate students. The present study seems to be meaningful in that it is the first work proving the effect of improvement of self-directed learning ability of graduate students through the DCIM-adapted classes.

  • This study investigates the validity of a Korean version of the Client Assessment Summary (CAS), which is a tool used to assess the recovery of alcoholics. We investigated the Korean CAS's suitability for use in assessing the scale of recovery scale of general alcoholics in Korea. In this study, we analyzed the data of 205 abstaining alcoholics in order to determine the validity of the Korean CAS. We undertook relationship analyses of CAS contents, reliability, and composition validity through factor analysis. In addition, we assessed ARS, abstinence period, abstinence self-efficacy, illness insight, and motivation change variables. The factor analysis results, performed after verification of content suitability by assessing 12 questions and 4 factors, confirmed the tool's composition validity, with the results showing relatively high values (R2 = 76.26%, communality ${\geq}0.6$, and KMO = 0.92). Moreover, internal consistency was acceptable (Cronbach's alpha = 0.92), and the correlations among ARS, abstinence self-efficacy, illness insight, and motivation change variables confirmed the validity of the Korean CAS. The proposed Korean CAS is expected to be useful when academically and clinically assessing the recovery of alcoholics; thereby, eventually contributing to successful recoveries from alcoholism.
