  • Landslides on hillside slopes with shallow soil cover over a sloping bedrock are frequently caused by increases in porewater pressures following of heavy rainfall and it is one of the most important factors of assessing the risk of landslide to predict the groundwater level fluctuations in hillslopes. This paper presents the comparative study of three unsaturated flow models developed by Sloan et al., Reddi, L.N., and Thomas, H.A., Jr., respectively, which are used to predict the increase of groundwater levels in hillside slopes. The parametric study for each of models is also presented. The Kinematic Storage Model(KSM) developed by Sloan et at. is utilized to predict the saturated groundwater flow. They are applied to the two sites in Korea so as to examine the possibility of use in the groundwater flow model. The results show that two unsaturated models developed by Sloan et al. and Reddi, L. N. are largely affected by the uncertain parameters like saturated permeability and saturated water content : the abed model has the potential of use in unsaturated flow model with the optimal estimates of model parameters utilizing available optimization techniques. And it is also found that the KSM must be modified to account for the time delay effect in the saturated zone. The results of this paper are able to be utilized in developing the predictive model of groan dwater level fluctuations in a hillslope.

  • In order to examine effects of sampling frequency during rainfall-runoff process from paddy field on the estimation of pollution load, EMCs of several water sampling frequencies were examined. Water quality samples were conducted by every two hours interval for each event. It was found that difference of load estimation between five times sampling and two hours consecutive sampling during rainfall-runoff showed $15.2{\sim}-15.2%$ for T-N, $20.0{\sim}-26.2%$ for T-P, $28.6{\sim}-35.7%$ for the SS, respectively. In the same way, the effects of number of sampling data on estimation of pollution load using runoff-mass load(L-Q) method were investigated. L-Q equation made of five times sampling data provided 10% differences in estimation of mass loads of T-N, T-P, and SS when compared to those by L-Q equation using entire two hours consecutive sampling data during runoff process.

  • In this study, 27-year (1979-2005) regional climate over the CORDEX East Asia domain was reproduced using a regional climate model, RegCM4, driven by HadGEM2-AO output, and the model's simulation skill was evaluated in terms of surface air temperature and precipitation. The RegCM4 reasonably simulated the spatial distribution and interannual variability and seasonal variability of surface air temperature, while it had systematic biases in the simulation of precipitation. In particular, simulated rainband of East Asian summer monsoon was southward shifted below $30^{\circ}N$ as compared with the observation, thereby, summer mean precipitation over South Korea was significantly underestimated. Simulated temperature from the RegCM4 driven by the HadGEM2-AO output was comparable to that driven by the reanalysis. However, the RegCM4 driven by the HadGEM2-AO had prominently poor skill in the simulation of precipitation. This can be associated with the distorted monsoon circulations in the driving data (i.e., HadGEM2-AO) such as southward shifted low-level southwesterly, which resulted in the erroneous evolution of East Asian summer monsoon simulated by RegCM4.

  • This study aims to make the stand density management diagram which is very useful for establishing systematic management plan and obtaining management goal in Pinus densiflora forest. To estimate 5 models mainly composed of stand density management diagram, we used total of 1,886 sample plots having more than 75% of the total basal area of the pine trees in each stand. To test the goodness of fit, $X^2$ was computed with a significance level of 5%, and the acceptable error range as 20%. Also standard deviation of the model was $34.59m^3{\cdot}ha^{-1}$, minimum acceptable error range was 16.59% and coefficient of variation was 22.11%. If we use the stand density management diagram, it would be useful to establish the timber yield and thinning plan understanding the pathway of stand density management.

  • A tidal sandshoal, called 'Puldeung' in the Daeijackdo Marine Protected Area(DMPA), is facing erosion due to sand mining in the nearby coastal region. To monitor the morphologic change and erosion of Puldeung, a camera monitoring system was established at the top of Song-Ee Mountain in Daeijack Island. The system consists of 2 Cannon digital cameras, Eye-fi memory card/Long-Term Evolution wireless network, and solar power supply. The acquired camera images were analyzed to obtain the area of Puldeung by the following methods: geometric correction of image, identification of shoreline, areal measurement of Puldeung and its error estimation. To compare the Puldeung area with previously measured area of 1.79 km2 at tidal height of 137 cm in 2008 and of 1.59 km2 at tidal height of 148 cm in 2010, we selected images with same tidal heights. The Puldeung area was 1.37 and 1.23 km2 at the tidal height of 137 and 148 cm, respectively. The erosion at DMPA is very severe and thus it is imperative to initiate the morphodynamical study on the seasonal variation and long-term evolution of Puldeung as well as the causes and measures of Puldeung erosion.

  • This purpose of this study is to extract the perceptual types of Organizational Citizenship Behavior(OCB) conceptual domain. OCB is a employee behavior that goes above and beyond the call of duty, that is discretionary and not explicitly recognized by the employing organization's formal reward system, and that contributes to organizational effectiveness. But, as is generally known, OCB is such a fuzzy concept that many researchers have been questioning the exact conceptual domain of OCB. In this context, we try to applicate Q-methodology to find more effective way of explaining the conceptual domain of OCB. Q-sample was constructed by a thorough review on the relevant literature, and P-sample is 14 employees of an manufacturing company. In conclusion, we find three types of the conceptual domain of OCB, that is coworker-oriented, organization-orienteded, and work-orienteed type. The paper ends with suggestions for future research directions.

  • Since the Economic Crisis at the end of 1997, unemployment rate soared up to the record-high 8.6% (February 1999) and, for youth aged 15~29, it was 14.6% (27.8% for aged 15~19). In spite of economic recovery after the crisis, new participants in labor market at the school-to-work transition have faced with difficulties in finding their first jobs and, even further, the ratio of youth at out-of the labor force but not in school has remained at a higher level. It is important to calibrate the negative effects of nonemployment in the short-run as well as in the long-run, but there has been few study on the school-to-work transition in Korea. This study focus on the nonemployment duration to first job after formal education and comparison of its pattern before and after the crisis. A proportional hazard model, considering job prenaration before graduation (21.4% of the sample), with the semi-parametric baseline hazard is applied to the sample from the Korean Labor and Income Panel Survey(1998~2000) and its Youth Supplemental survey(2000). Interview of the Survey is conducted, by the Korea Labor Institute, to the same 5,000 household and 13,738 individual sample, guaranteeing nationwide representativeness. The Supplemental Survey consists of 3,302 young individuals aged 15 to 29 at the time of survey and 1,615 of them who are not in school and provide appropriate information is used for the analysis. The empirical results show that there exists negative duration dependence at the first three or for months at the transition period and no duration dependence since a turning point of the baseline hazard rate and that unemployment rate reflecting labor demand conditions has a positive effect on exiting the nonemployment state, which is inconsistent with a theoretical conclusion. Estimation with samples separated by the date of graduation before and after the crisis shows that the effect of unemployment rate on the hazard was negative for the pre-crisis sample but positive for the post-crisis sample.

  • In the Integrated Two-Phase Anaerobic Digestion (ITPAD) process, acid and methane fermentation take place in one reactor, which has advantages to cope with organic load variation and reduce foot-print required, compensating disadvantages of Conventional Separated Two-Phase Anaerobic Digestion (CSTPAD). In the present work, organic matter degradation efficiency and biogas generation amount and other performance parameters of the ITPAD fed with food waste leachate were analyzed. In addition, feasibility study on the ITPAD method was performed by comparing its digestion efficiency with that of the CSTPAD. Organic matter alteration and biogas generation of the integrated method were examined for approximately 130 days based on the 5ton/day scaled pilot plant. Experiment results revealed that organic matter removal rate was 80% for mean food waste leachate input amount of $4.1m^3/day$. The biogas generation rate was $63.0m^3$ per ton of food waste leachate input, corresponding to the input VS amount of $0.724m^3/kg-VS_{added}$, and methane content of generated biogas was approximately 61.3%. The ITPAD has a comparable or higher organic matter removal efficiency compared to the conventional separated two-phase anaerobic digestion method. Consequently, the ITPAD method has a great need to commercialize a food waste leachate treatment technology against highly concentrated organic waste leachate.

  • Manila Bay is home to the Port of Manila with three harbors: North Harbor, South Harbor and MICT(Manila International container Terminal). There is an adjacent fishing port to the north and another port across the Bay, the Limao Port. This study focuses on the volume of traffic movement in the Bay area taken from Manila VTMS raw data of the arrival and departure movements only. It is a two-year period of study of 2010 and 2011 traffic volume. It divides the data according to their numbers; to their sizes measured in gross tons; to the time of vessels' movements, whether daytime or night-time; and to each voyage trade: domestic or foreign. Quantitative values are calculated from the raw data based on the whole population of the two-year period. The results are illustrated by tables and graphs. Statistical measures are applied to determine the spread and frequencies of the data and test any significance from the hypotheses. These are shown in the tabulated form and interpreted to give a better picture of the frequency and volume of traffic. In the end, a summary is offered where it is hoped that this paper will propel further studies of improving the safety behavior in the premier port of the country.
