  • To properly answer the question 'Why have Vietnamese Women kept appearing in Korean Films and TV dramas?', We need to induce Postcolonial discourse along with historical and cultural similarities between Korea and Vietnam. It is because the relationship of two countries can be defined as a neocolonialism specially in view of economic relationship. Koreans need to locate themselves on the superior position by othering Vietnamese women, who are close enough to be compared and also distant enough to be othered. This paper is intended to bring their being in Korean films and TV dramas under the light of postcolonial discourse. According to the postcolonial concepts such as ambivalence, stereotyping and subaltern, Korean films and TV dramas are classified into three groups, which are Vietnam war melodramas, Horror movies based in Vietnam, and TV dramas with Vietnamese brides. War melodramas have been othering Vietnamese woman through ambivalence of the fear of Vietcom warrior and the fascination of exotic beauty. Horror movies, produced about 10 years later, brought the Vietnamese women back to Korean audience, stereotyping them into ghosts, which are incarnated through the suppression and eruption of sexual desire. The third group consists mainly of TV dramas. Their story usually evolves around Vietnamese brides migrating into Korea. The women are forced into the position of Subaltern, not representing themselves in their own voices. Facing multi-cultural society, our visual media are requested to modify their neocolonial approach of presenting Vietnamese women. To accomplish the goal, they have to find ways of storytelling to show the women in their everyday lives and help them to speak for themselves.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Vietnamese consumers' perception of Korean Wave brand on consumer attitude toward Korean products and purchase intention. Based on the existing research, the authors tried to consider two sub-concepts of globalness and localness in perceived Korean Wave brands. In addition, as surveyed in Vietnam research institutes and previous researches, Korean cosmetics were selected as representative Korean products in view of the fact that Korean cosmetics best reflect Korea and Korean Wave. To test hypotheses, the on-line survey was conducted to the Vietnamese consumers and total of 212 questionnaires were returned as valid sample. Research findings suggest that the globalness and localness of Korean Wave brand that Vietnamese consumers perceive have a positive effect on attitude toward Korean products. In addition, the favorable attitude toward these products has a positive effect on the intention to purchase the Korean products.

  • SentiWordNet is an important lexical resource supporting sentiment analysis in opinion mining applications. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to construct a Vietnamese SentiWordNet (VSWN). SentiWordNet is typically generated from WordNet in which each synset has numerical scores to indicate its opinion polarities. Many previous studies obtained these scores by applying a machine learning method to WordNet. However, Vietnamese WordNet is not available unfortunately by the time of this paper. Therefore, we propose a method to construct VSWN from a Vietnamese dictionary, not from WordNet. We show the effectiveness of the proposed method by generating a VSWN with 39,561 synsets automatically. The method is experimentally tested with 266 synsets with aspect of positivity and negativity. It attains a competitive result compared with English SentiWordNet that is 0.066 and 0.052 differences for positivity and negativity sets respectively.

  • International marriage migrants from developing to developed countries are to seek a better economic condition. There are only a few empirical research on comparing and analyzing economic condition of marriage migrants before and after marriage. This study attempted to analyze the relationship between the cognition on the change of economic condition before and after marriage and the socio-economic characteristics of Vietnamese international marriage female migrants. About 80% of interviewees of this study were motivated to marry Korean men for economic reasons; however, their household economic level was relatively low. Reflecting the household economic level, about half the Vietnamese women considered that there was very little difference in the economic condition before and after marriage; while, the percent of women considering the current economic condition as getting better were more than 4 times of that of women considering as becoming worse. The cognition on the economic condition change before and after marriage was positively correlated with the level of education attainment of husbands and themselves, the Korean language ability, state of occupation in Korea, the level of husband's income, involvement of management of living expenses and length of residence in Korea. The occupation in Vietnam and the state of remittance were not significantly related to the cognition on the economic condition change before and after marriage. Vietnamese marriage female migrants were highly motivated to have a job out of home to improve the economic condition of their own family and natal family. Concreted alternative programs should be made to help those women to work out of home.

  • Korean construction companies has maintained stable market share based on high technology and cost competitiveness although international construction market has been stalled due to increasingly global economy uncertainties. In order to promote the continuous growth and development of overseas construction, Korean construction companies need to secure overseas market information, and to be strongly competitive. Therefore, this study aims to analysis of competitiveness for international construction by business types, in order to enter the Vietnamese infrastructure market, which presents abundant development potential. According to the IPA results, Korean construction industry has weaknesses in its ability to obtain business information and experience, which are the most important factors in entering the overseas construction market, and also presents a lack of feasibility study for creating new construction business. However, this work is still considered to provide the basic data that can help Korean construction companies who plan to enter the Vietnamese infrastructure market strengthen their medium and long-term capabilities.

  • Vietnam is an important country with many trade transactions with the Republic of Korea. Arbitration is a method of resolving disputes that can arise with the increase in trade transactions. It is essential to study the legal system and precedents of Vietnam on the approval and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. Such is the case because the law in Vietnam and the court's position on the approval and enforcement of foreign arbitration awards issued by the courts depend on the possibility of realizing the parties' rights concerning their disputes. Therefore, it is of great value both theoretically and practically to analyze the exact differences between approval and the denial of approval. Vietnam has enacted the Commercial Arbitration Act, which replaces the previous Commercial Arbitration Decree and creates an arbitration-friendly environment that meets international arbitration standards. Regarding the approval and execution of foreign arbitration awards, the Commercial Arbitration Act, the Civil Procedure Act, the Civil Execution Act, and the Vietnam Foreign Arbitration Awards Approval and Enforcement Ordinance are regulated. Following these laws and regulations, the reasons for the approval, enforcement, and rejection of the arbitral award are specified. In accordance with these laws and inappropriate arbitration agreements, an arbitral award beyond the scope of its right of disposition, an arbitral tribunal, or the concerned parties could not be involved in a proceeding or an arbitral award if the involved party does not have an opportunity to exercise its rights lawfully. If the state agency in the forum does not recognize the arbitral award, the dispute is not subject to arbitration under Vietnamese law, or the arbitral award does not conform to the basic principles of Vietnamese law, the parties are not bound, and the foreign arbitration award is rejected for approval and execution.

  • Antioxidant anticancer activities and nitric oxide (NO) production of Vietnamese and Thai yonganyook (Euphoria longana) fermented with lactic acid bacteria and Bacillus subtilis were investigated. Total organic acid contents (TAC) of Thai raw yonganyook (473.49 mg/g, 89.2% of TAC) were higher 3.2 tims than those of Vietnamese raw yonganyook (148.48 mg/g, 86.8% of TAC) and major organic acids of two materials were formic acid and malic acid. Total free sugars contents of Vietnamese raw yonganyook (434.63 mg/g) were higher 1.2 times than those of Thai raw yonganyook (378.77 mg/g) and major free sugar of two materials welt sucrose, glucose and fructose. NO production of RAW264.7 cell treated with methanol extract of Vietnamese fermented yonganyook was shown to be a lower level than that of Thai fermented yonganyook. It's production by fermented yonganyook was strongly exhibited in low dose (0.2 mg/mL) than in high dose (1.0 mg/mL) as compared with raw yonganyook Electron-donating ability (EDA) of Vietnamese raw yonganyook ($41.72{\pm}3.59%$) at $600\;{\mu}g/assay$ was higher 1.4 times than that of Thai yonganyook ($30.20{\pm}4.8%$). EDA of Vietnamese yonganyook fermented with B. subtilis at $600\;{\mu}g/assay$ was $43.57{\pm}2.07%$ which was the highest level of all samples tested. Anticancer activity of raw yonganyook on human HeLa cell was similar to between Vietnamese and Thai yonganyook. In inhibitory effect of HepG2 cell growth, methanol extract of Thai yonganyook ($46.13{\pm}4.80%$) was higher than that of Vietnamese yonganyook ($33.07{\pm}0.92%$). Inhibitory activity of fermented yonganyook on HeLa and HepG2 cell growth were $39.21{\pm}1.46%$ and $48.07{\pm}1.63%$ when $200\;{\mu}g/assay$ of methanol extract of Vietnamese and Thai yonganyook fermented with B. subtilis were used, respectively.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to generate a grounded substantive theory of the adaptation process of mothers-in-law of Vietnamese women married to Korean husbands. Methods: Thirteen women who had Vietnamese daughters-in-law were interviewed. Data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using a grounded theory method. Results: Eight categories with 19 sub-categories were extracted from 268 concepts. The identified phenomenon was 'overcoming differences' and the core category was 'trying one's best to live together with daughter-in-law'. The 9 categories were grouped into 3 stages for the adaptation process: encountering, struggling, and living together. Conclusion: The results indicate that when individuals from different cultural and personal backgrounds have to live together there is a continuing negotiation process towards meeting each other's needs. Health professionals can assist this adaptation process by providing these women with insights into various ways of meeting each other's need while they are struggling.
