  • In this paper, we studied process capability analysis for brake-pad manufacturing system and considered Weibull, normal and logistic distributions for density estimation of wear life of brake pads for a passenger car with a real data. These three distributions are seem to work well. Estimated percentiles of brake pads can be used to evaluate the design criteria and customers' need for brake pads.

  • The physical nature of fatigue shows the considerable amount of scatter from intrinsic and extrinsic factors. In this study, some degradation models, such as the gamma process model, were reviewed in terms of uncertainties associated with the continuous, gradual, and monotonic nature of fatigue crack growth. Statistically varying fatigue crack growth data obtained from Lu and Meeker were used as an example to demonstrate the use of the gamma process model. This model can describe the condition and lifetime as statistical distribution curves whose shapes vary with cycles. From the skewness of the statistical distribution curves, it was confirmed that the median is suitable for being considered as the expected life. The use of the gamma process model enables the optimum replacement period and percentile life to be employed as criteria for preventive maintenance policy.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present a method to estimate the storage life of propellant bag for degradation of breaking load with storage time by using gamma process model. The nitrogen compound generated by natural decomposition of propellants degrades the breaking load of propellant bag with time. The statistical distributions of condition and lifetime with time were shown from the results of accelerated life test of propellant bag cloth at $80^{\circ}C$. It was found that the use of median for life was highly appropriate and the $B_1$ or $B_5$ life should be selectively applied to the quality assurance policy.

  • This paper on planning constant accelerated life test is assumed that parameters for a lognormal life distribution are depended on changes of stresses. The proposed test plans are optimum in that they minimize the asymptotic variance of maximum likelihood estimator of a specified quantile at the design stress. The optimal amount of low stress level ${\xi}_{L}$ and optimal sample proportion ${\pi}$ to be allocated at low stress level are obtained when the ratio of scales at high stress level and design stress level is unknown.

  • This paper suggests a temperature guidance for requirements which must be addressed in the preparation of specifications for military equipment used in land applications in the Korean peninsula. In general, the equipment should be designed to operate during all but a certain small percentage of the time. Daegu and Yangpyeong are the hottest and coldest regions by month, respectively, based on surface weather observations over 132 regions from 1904 to 2014. The 1-percent high and low temperatures for land environment in the South Korea are $38.7^{\circ}C$, and -$29.0^{\circ}C$, respectively. This paper also presents the temperature values occurring for specified frequencies of occurrence during the most severe month. Diurnal cycles associated with the hottest and coldest top one-percent temperatures, including associated solar radiation, relative humidity, and wind-speed are provided.

  • This paper suggests a temperature guidance which must be addressed in the preparation of specifications for military equipment used in ocean/coastal environment of the Korean peninsula. It would often be costly to design materiel to operate under the most extreme environmental conditions ever recorded. Therefore, military planners usually accept equipments designed to operate under environmental stresses for all the time except a certain small percentage of the time. In this study, an 1-percent frequency of occurrence is recommended. Pohang and Shineiju are chosen to represent the hottest and coldest regions, respectively, based on surface weather observations among 28 costal regions from 1904 to 2015. The 1st and 99th percentile temperatures for Pohang and Shineiju are $37.7^{\circ}C$ and $-23.7^{\circ}C$, respectively. Diurnal cycles, including solar radiation, relative humidity and wind-speed are also provided.

  • Prediction the performance of pavement provides proper information to an agency on decision-making process; especially evaluating the pavement performance and prioritizing the work plan. To date, there are a number of approaches to predict the future deterioration of pavements. However, there are some limitation to proper prediction of the pavement service life. In this paper, pavement performance model and pavement condition prediction model are developed in order to improve pavement condition prediction method. The prediction model of pavement condition through the regression analysis of real pavement condition is based on the probability distribution of pavement condition, which set to 5%, 15%, 25% and 50%, by condition of the pavement and traffic volume. The pavement prediction model presented from the behavior of individual pavement condition which are set to 5%, 15%, 25% and 50% of probability distribution. The performance of the prediction model is evaluated from analyzing the average, standard deviation of HPCI, and the percentage of HPCI which is lower than 3.0 of comparable section. In this paper, we will suggest the more rational method to determine the future pavement conditions, including the probabilistic duration and deterministic modeling methods regarding the impact of traffic volume, age, and the type of the pavement.
