Effect of Glue and Alum Mixing Ratio on the Color Variation of Traditional Sizing Hanji (아교포수 방법이 전통한지의 색상 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • The traditional sizing treatment for the Hanji is performed to give the following functions. Those are to stabilize the paint of the painting, to prevent the paint of painting and moisture from smearing into the painting itself, to prevent the paint of the painting and moisture from passing to the lining paper, and to make the colors of painting match the surrounding.This study analyzed a result of the effect of Hanji sizing characteristic according to glue and alum mixing ratio and applying times, affects to pigments of painting and fastness of Hanji using accelerated aging test. As a result of color measurement of sizing treated Hanji, the concentration of glue and the number of application increased, the brightness and the $L^*$ value decreased but the yellowness index increased.

  • There are several lasers available for office-based or suspension microlaryngoscopy laser procedures in the treatment of laryngeal diseases. Each has advantages and disadvantages given the depth of penetration per unit of power, absorption in water, spectral absorption characteristics, mode of delivery, safety, and cost. It is important to note that while the proper selection of indication of treatment based on a laser wavelength is critical, of equal importance is selecting the appropriate power setting, focal length (or spot size), and time of exposure. The photoangiolytic lasers precisely target hemoglobin within the microcirculation of the highly vascularized tissue and may have better hemostatic effects and preservation of surrounding normal tissue than the CO2 laser. Although the choice of laser is purely theoretical and cannot be accurately concluded which parameters of laser (wattage and pulse width) were best to use, photoangiolytic laser surgery is safe and effective for specific laryngeal lesions. In this review, indications for photoangiolytic laser procedures for various laryngeal diseases, laser settings and surgical techniques for specific laryngeal lesions including sulcus vocalis, laryngeal dysplasia, and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis will be introduced. Pros and cons of in-office laser surgery using photoangiolytic laser and flexible CO2 laser will also be addressed.

Effect of Acupuncture and Moxibustion for Vitiligo: A Scoping Review of Randomized Controlled Trials (백반증의 침구(鍼灸) 치료 효과: 무작위 대조 시험에 대한 주제 범위 문헌 고찰)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to review the effect of acupuncture/moxibustion on vitiligo. Methods : Using 5 databases(Pubmed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, RISS, OASIS) clinical studies about effect of acupuncture/moxibustion on vitiligo were searched. Only randomized controlled trials(RCTs) were selected to analyze. Results : Total 235 studies were searched. After screening those studies 5 studies were selected from china and Iran. 3 studies used effective rate to measure the effect of acupuncture for vitiligo. 1 study used Vitiligo Area Scoring Index(VASI) and 1 study assessed 4 grade of repigmentation to prove acupuncture's effect on vitiligo. All studies showed repigmentation in acupuncture/moxibustion group. Adverse effects reported in the five studies were temporary erythema, itching, and dryness. Conclusions : These findings suggest that acupuncture and moxibustion can be considered a safe treatment for vitiligo. However, due to the small number of RCTs conducted on acupuncture and moxibustion for vitiligo, more RCTs should be conducted to confirm the effectiveness of acupuncture and moxibustion for vitiligo.

Anti-inflammatory Effect of Alum to Experimental Paranasal Sinusitis of Rabbit (가토(家兎)의 녹농균성 부비동염에 대한 백반(白礬)의 항염증(抗炎症) 효과)

  • Objective : In order to investigate anti-inflammatory effect of Alum objectively which is traditional remedy applicated by external preparation frequently, especially in Rhinologic field. Materials and Method : We studied the histopathologic and hematologic features, serum transaminase activities in the experimentally induced maxillary sinusitis in rabbits. 9 rabbits was divided into normal, control anti sample group(each 3 rabbits). We inoculated $10^{10}$ P. aeruginosa for experimental maxillary sinusitis to control group and sample group. Sample group was treated with aim solution(l0g/100cc) lcc via both nasal cavity (each 0.5cc) after 24hrs everyday for 14days. Results and Conclusion : 1. We confirmed that maxillary sinusitis was well induced by P. aeruginosa without occlusion of maxillary ostium. 2. There was no abnormal findings in serum transaminase(AST/ALT) activities even though application of Alum solution on nasal mucosa for 14days continuously. 3. Alum has evident anti-inflammatory effect of recovering mucosal surface injury, reduction of goblet cell, lymphocyte infiltration, edema and expansion of glandular tissue, dilatation and congestion of blood vessels and so on. 4. Alum has the effect that recover glandular tissue injury and decrease goblet cell increase by the result of dermal PAS staining increase and epidermal AB staining decrease in the qualitative analysis of epidermal and dermal mucopolysaccharide

Effects of Guaruhaebaekbanha-tang Extract on Beating Rate and LDH Activity in Cultured Rat Myocardial Cells (과루해백반하탕 추출물이 배양 심근세포의 박동수와 LDH 활성도에 미치는 영향)

  • To certify the protective effect of herbal medicine against oxygen free radical-induced myocardiotoxicity, cytotoxicity was measured using MTT, LDH activity and Beating rate assay in the presence of Guaruhaebaekbanha-tang(GHBT) extracts or single constituents of this prescription. Myocardial toxicity was evaluated in neonatal rat myocardiocytes in cultures. In the present study, xanthine oxidase/hypoxanthine(XO/HX) resulted in a decrease in cell viability, increases in LDH activity in culture medium and decreases in beating rate in cultured myocardial cells. In the effect of GHBT extract, it showed the prevention from the XO/HX-induced cardiotoxicity by the increases of cell viability and beating rate as well as the decrease of LDH activity. In the protective effect of Fructus Trichosanthis(FT), Bulbus Allii Macrostemi(BAM) and Rhizoma Pinelliae(RP), all the extracts were significantly effective in the protection of XO/HX-induced cardiotoxocity in cultured myocardial cells by the increase of beating rate as well as th decrease of LDH activity. From these results, they show that XO/HX is cardiotoxic in cultured myocardial cells derived from neonatal rat, and it suggests that GHBT, FT, SAM, RP extracts are positively effective in the blocking in XO/HX-induced cardiotoxicity.

The Dyeability of Dendropanax morbifera Lev. with Mordants (매염제에 따른 황칠나무의 염색성)

  • 본 연구에서는 한국 특산종으로 남해안 섬에서만 자라는 황칠나무(Dendropanax morbifera Lev., 황칠이라고 함)를 사용하여 염색하였다. 황칠나무는 면역력 증진, 신경 안정, 항균, 항산화에 효능이 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 황칠염색은 $60^{\circ}C$에서 이루어졌으며, 발효한 액체 황칠을 염료로 사용하였다. 매염제에 따른 염색을 실시하고 CCM을 사용하여 색발현 특성을 알아보았다. 면직물의 경우 대조직물의 K/S값이 0.13에 비해 식소다 동시매염, 고백반 식소다 동시매염, 고백반 동시매염, 고백반 선매염, 황수(영천지역의 약수) 후매염은 각각 1.53, 0.99, 1.62, 1.65, 2.21로 차이가 있었다. 울직물의 경우 대조직물의 K/S값이 0.48에 비해 식소다 동시매염, 고백반 동시매염, 고백반 식소다 동시매염, 고백반 선매염, 황수 후매염은 각각 2.61, 1.97, 3.20, 3.07, 4,59로 차이가 있었다. 견직물의 경우 대조직물의 K/S값이 0.30에 비해 식소다 동시매염, 고백반 동시매염, 고백반 식소다 동시매염, 고백반 선매염, 황수 후매염은 각각 2.06, 1.21, 1,77, 1.80, 3.23로 차이가 있었다. 황수 매염이 식소다나 백반 매염보다 효과가 있는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 매염의 순서에 따라서도 차이가 나는 것을 알 수 있었다.

A Review of Clinical Researches for Herbal Medicine Treatment on Vitiligo (백반증의 한약 치료에 대한 임상 연구 고찰)

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze clinical studies on the efficacy and safety of herbal medicine in vitiligo by analyzing randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Methods Three electronic databases including the PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane library were used to search for randomized controlled trials, by using specific key words and criteria up to January 4th, 2020. Data in regards to years of publication, nation, demographic information, disease characteristics, duration of diseases, treatment methods, treatment period, outcome measures, results and adverse events were collected for this study. Results A total of 11 randomized controlled trials were selected and analyzed. The total effective rate of the treatment group treated with herbal medicine was significantly higher than that of the control group. In the other outcome measures, the treatment group also showed statistically significant differences in improving the outcome measures compared to the control group, or showed similar treatment effects to the control group. The most commonly used herbal medicines were Carthami Flos (紅花), Angelicae Gigantis Radix (當歸), Angelica dahurica Bentham et Hooker f. (白芷), Astragali Radix (黃芪), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (甘草), Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix (丹參), Persicae Semen (桃仁), Araliae Continentalis Radix (獨活), Tribuli Fructus (白蒺藜), Psoraleae Semen (補骨脂) etc. Hardly any severe adverse events were reported from the trials selected. Conclusions Based on the results of the clinical studies, herbal medicine treatment could be an effective and safe option for vitiligo treatment and symptom improvement.

Analysis on Red-colored Dyeing by using Non-destructive UV-visible and Fluorescence Spectrophotometry (비파괴 자외-가시 및 형광 분광 분석법을 이용한 적색계 전통 염료 분석)

  • This study examined non-destructive UV-Vis spectrophotometry as well as 3-D fluorescence spectrophotometry of textile that made use of red dye such as Sappan wood, madder, Safflower, Gromwell. The authors produced two textile specimen that were dyed by not only two kinds of textile (cotton and silk) but also three kinds of mordanting (no-mordanting, alumen and iron), and they investigated effects of each dye material upon investigation results. At analysis with UV-Vis spectrophotometry of dyed textile specimen, dyeing made by sappan wood, madder and gromwell had significant difference depending upon mardant regardless of kinds of textile, and safflower had no significant difference depending upon textile and mordant. At analysis with 3D-fluorescence spectrophotometry, specimen dyed with sappan wood had difference with mordants, and with madder, there were difference with textiles, and safflower had inherent fluorescence spectrum regardless of textiles and mordants, while gromwell had no fluorescence spectrum.

Contamination Level and Dietary Intake of Total Mercury in Common Restaurant Meals of Seoul Area (서울시내 대중식사중 수은의 오염실태 및 총 섭취량 평가)

  • To investigate the contamination level and total dietary intake of Hg in common restaurant meals of Seoul area, 125 samples of 5 typical meals were collected and determined for their total Hg contents by flameless atomic absorption sepctrophotometry. The average concentrations of Hg were 0.186ppm in drained residues and 0.007ppm in fluids, in which two samples yeukkye-jang and bibim-bab from two sites showed such a high level of 20-30 times of mean values. The average amount of Hg per meal excluding the two samples was $79.6{\mu}g$ and it was not significantly different among different meals. The daily dietary intake of total Hg from 3 restaurant meals was estimated to be $239{\mu}g$, which was 5 times higher than the FAO/WHO limit of $42.9{\mu}g$.

  • MMP-2 and MMP-9, type IV collagenases which degrade basement membrane, have been known to play important roles in invasion and metastasis of tumor cells, In addition, they seem to be involved in cell differentiation, apoptosis, angiogenesis and immunity, etc. We immunohistochemically examined epithelial and stromal expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in irritation fibroma, oral leukoplakia, and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and have some results as follows: 1. Irritation fibromas, oral leukoplakias and OSCCs mostly showed increased expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in the epithelium and connective tissue compared with normal mucosa. 2. There was a significant difference in the epithelial expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 between irritation fibroma and oral leukoplakia. 3. There was a significant difference in the epithelial and stromal expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 between irritation fibroma and OSCC. 4. There was a significant difference in the stromal expression of MMP-9 between oral leukoplakia and OSCC. We concluded that rritation fibroma, oral leukoplakia and OSCC have somewhat different characteristics of MMP-2 and MMP-9 expressions, which perhaps result from different pathogenesis.
