  • Zostera caespitosa Miki has been identified to be distributed along the seacoasts of Korea and Japan. This study was intended to clarify the morphological characters and the habitat characteristics of Korean Z. caespitosa. It was confirmed that Z. caespitosa is distributed along the seacoasts of South, Yellow and East Seas of South Korea. The habitats were located in the bay and port with the depth varying from 2.5 to 5.2 m. The habitats of Z. caespitosa were rather deeper than that of mixed bed with Z. marina. The sediment in the habitats was composed of well-sorted fine sand or muddy sand. Z. caespitosa showed marked differences in several morphological characters among sites. Morphology of Z. caespitosa varied with water depths, grain size and organic contents of sediments. Flowering shoots occurred by water temperature of 6.0∼13.7℃ from January to early April.

  • This study has set up a plan to establish a trail as a means of maximizing a community by using the residents' living materials and unused facilities that a village holds now. A local archive is a place where the records and living materials collected from a village are preserved, displayed and shared with others, serving as a complex space with multiple functions. To apply the idea of 'utilizing a local archive', the empirical study was conducted by making an analysis of trail resources of Baekryeong Island and local archive application resources. Local archive resources were selected through evaluation of connection of trail routes by investigating and discovering the unused facilities of Baekryeong Island village and the depreciation level and scale of them. And actual local archive living references were investigated and collected through in-depth interviews of villagers. Also, through planning of trails by region, limitations of investigation activities were improved and various tangible and intangible resources owned by Baekryeong Island were utilized to enable effective and distinctive investigation activities and experiences. Unused facilities were surveyed and chosen to take advantage of the local archive space, along with in-depth interviews with the residents living in Baekryeong Island. In addition, the current conditions for the trail routes were checked out in order to 'point out the final routes'.

  • This study aims to compare the inf luences of pretreatment procedures, and refractive and absorptive indices in grain size analysis of sandy samples collected from Sagot Beach, Baengnyeong Island by laser diffraction grain size analyzer, and propose the proper procedure and method in grain size analysis of sandy samples. The analyzed samples do not indicate large differences by the three pretreatment procedures applied in this study. However, the organic matters should be removed by hydrogen peroxide, because the samples without hydrogen peroxide pretreatments show differences from the samples with hydrogen peroxide pretreatments. The results with a refractive index of 1.3 and absorptive index less than 0.01 also indicate differences from those with other indices. Compared to the differences in fine samples, these differences are not significant and thus, it can be concluded that the results in grain size analysis of sandy samples are not greatly influenced by the refractive and absorptive indices. However, other indices out of the ranges should be applied.

  • This study analyzed the effects of YouTube comments on belated hit in music chart by focusing on VIDITOR's YouTube channel video called 'BraveGirs_Rollin_comment_Collection'. For this, first of all, it investigated how the comments used by the channel master could achieve storytelling. Moreover, the reason for its popularity hit was researched by analyzing the comments made by users on this video through the 'Tipping point' rules. As a result, it was seen that this video created storytelling by connecting Brave Girls to the story of the Korean army. At the 'Tipping point,' besides, it was revealed that 'the law of the few' is the military, and 'the stickiness factor' is the good image left through Korea's island, 'Baengnyeongdo,' performance. Finally, the rule of 'the power of context' was indicated that it is a difficult reality situation because of COVID-19 and the good situation due to direct communication through the comments of Brave Girls' members and the company.

  • Beakryoung-do is located in the north along the western coast of South Korea. Owing to its geographical limitations, not many studies have been conducted on marine algae in this region. This study aims to investigate the marine algal flora and the community structure in the intertidal and subtidal zones of Nampo-ri, Beakryoung-myeon, Ongin-gun, Incheon regions of South Korea. The study was conducted from August 2015 to June 2016 during all seasons. A total of 95 algal species, including 7 green algae, 12 brown algae, and 76 red algae were collected and identified; 52 algal species were found in the intertidal zone and 83 in the subtidal zone. The vertical distribution of algae from upper to lower intertidal zone was Neorhodomela aculeata - Caulacanthus okamurae, Gelidiophycus freshwateri - Neorhodomela aculeata, Caulacanthus okamurae - Sargassum thunbergii, Caulacanthus okamurae. Findings indicated that Sargassum thunbergii and Neorhodomela aculeata were the biomass-dominant species in the intertidal zone and Corallina officinalis and Undaria pinnatifida were biomass-dominant in the subtidal zone. Average values of marine algae biomass in the intertidal and subtidal zones were 252.6 g wet weight m-2 and 291.9 g wet weight m-2, respectively. Further, 38 new species were found in Beakryoung-do, with 25 of them specifically found in the subtidal zone. More studies on marine algal flora in the subtidal zone are needed to understand the changes in marine flora along the western coast.

  • The spotted seal Phoca largha a primary marine mammal found along the Korean coast, exhibits a seasonal migration pattern between breeding and feeding areas. In this study, population fluctuations of spotted seals were analyzed around Baengnyeongdo Island, Korea, from 2016 to 2021. Field surveys were conducted at two major haulout sites, Mulbeom rocks and Yeonbong rocks, during low tide between April and November of each year. The results indicate that the highest number of spotted seals was observed in summer, particularly in August or September. Mulbeom rocks consistently accommodated more spotted seals than Yeonbong rocks, suggesting that it is a more suitable haulout site for the spotted seals. The recorded population was approximately 200 spotted seals, showing a slight decrease when compared with previous surveys conducted in 2000-2002 and 2006-2008. This decline could be attributed to overhunting and habitat degradation. Fluctuations in the number of spotted seals could also be influenced by short-term factors such as weather conditions. Further research incorporating drone surveys and photo-identification will improve our understanding of population dynamics and support conservation measures for spotted seals in this region.
