  • Recently, the risk of safety accidents in the coastal zone has been increased due to revitalization of marine leisure and tourism. The effective measures, however, to prevent safety accidents in the coastal zone have not taken with increasing rate of the accidents. The nature of land and sea should be taken into account properly when the countermeasures to prevent the safety accidents in the coastal zone are devised, since the characteristics of land and sea are mixed in the environmental condition of the coastal zone. Through the field survey, this study analyzes the current problems on the safety in the coastal zone. Also, it suggests the future direction of the safety standards in the coastal zone on the basis of the safety improvement direction in the coastal zone.

  • Latency and amplitude are the measurement parameters of mismatch negativity (MMN). The values of the parameters vary sensitively with the stimulus paradigm. A paradigm using the frequency difference of sounds for the MMN study is well known. This study obtained the reference values of the parameters in healthy young adults by performing the MMN study using the frequency paradigm. The authors recruited ten healthy adults. Their average age was 25.5 years; three were female, and seven were male. On the auditory paradigm for the MMN study, the frequency of sound was 1000 Hz for the standard stimulus, and 1032 Hz for the deviant stimulus. The mean values of latency and amplitude of MMN were 202 ms and 1.88 ㎶ at Fz, 207 ms, and 1.46 ㎶ at Cz, 212 ms, and 1.10 ㎶ at C3, and 214 ms and 1.45 ㎶ at C4. There was no correlation between the latency and amplitude of MMN. This study presented the reference values of the latency and amplitude of the MMN using a standard paradigm that is easy to apply. This information may make the MMN useful for clinical applications and basic research.

  • Recently, mobile traffic is increasing exponentially as major traffic is transferred to IoT and visual media data in the dissemination of mobile communication terminals and contents use. In order to overcome the limitations of the existing LTE system, 5G mobile communication technology (5G) is a technology that meets 1000 times data traffic capacity, 4G LTE system acceptance, low latency, high energy efficiency, and high cost compared to 4G LTE system. The path loss due to the use of the frequency domain is very high, so it may be difficult to provide a service compared to the existing 4G LTE system. To overcome these shortcomings, various techniques are under study. In this paper, small cell technology is introduced to improve the system performance of 5G mobile communication systems. The performance is analyzed by comparing the results of small cell technology application, macro communication and small cell communication, and the results of the proposed algorithm application for power control. The analysis results show that the use of small cell technology in the 5th generation mobile communication system can significantly reduce the shadow area and reduce the millimeter wave path loss problem.

  • Feature-based similarity has become an important research issue in multimedia database systems. The features of multimedia data are useful for discriminating between multimedia objects. the performance of conventional multidimensional data structures tends to deteriorate as the number of dimensions of feature vectors increase. The $R^{*}-Tree$ is the most successful variant of the R-Tree. In this paper, we propose a SOM-based $R^{*}-Tree$ as a new indexing method for high-dimensional feature vectors. The SOM-based $R^{*}-Tree$ combines SOM and $R^{*}-Tree$ to achieve search performance more scalable to high-dimensionalties. Self-Organizingf Maps (SOMs) provide mapping from high-dimensional feature vectors onto a two-dimensional space. The map is called a topological feature map, and preserves the mutual relationships (similarity) in the feature spaces of input data, clustering mutually similar feature vectors in neighboring nodes. Each node of the topological feature map holds a codebook vector. We experimentally compare the retrieval time cost of a SOM-based $R^{*}-Tree$ with of an SOM and $R^{*}-Tree$ using color feature vectors extracted from 40,000 images. The results show that the SOM-based $R^{*}-Tree$ outperform both the SOM and $R^{*}-Tree$ due to reduction of the number of nodes to build $R^{*}-Tree$ and retrieval time cost.

  • Recently, many studies have been conducted to increase the accuracy of stock price prediction by analyzing candlestick charts using artificial intelligence techniques. However, these studies failed to consider the time-series characteristics of candlestick charts and to take into account the emotional state of market participants in data learning for stock price prediction. In order to overcome these limitations, this study produced input data by combining volatility index and candlestick charts to consider the emotional state of market participants, and used the data as input for a new method proposed on the basis of combining variantion autoencoder (VAE) and attention mechanisms for considering the time-series characteristics of candlestick chart. Fifty firms were randomly selected from the S&P 500 index and their stock prices were predicted to evaluate the performance of the method compared with existing ones such as convolutional neural network (CNN) or long-short term memory (LSTM). The results indicated the method proposed in this study showed superior performance compared to the existing ones. This study implied that the accuracy of stock price prediction could be improved by considering the emotional state of market participants and the time-series characteristics of the candlestick chart.

  • For development a new anti-diabetic compound from edible mushroom, antihyperglycemic ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activities of Pleurotus ostreatus, Pleurotus cornucopiae, Pleurotus salmoneostramineus, Pleurotus eryngii and Neolentinus lepideus were investigated on its water and ethanol extracts. ${\alpha}$-Glucosidase inhibitory activity of Neolentinus lepideus fruiting body showed the highest at 86.3% in the 95% ethanol extracts and water extract from Pleurotus cornucopiae was also higher at 48.5% among water extracts. Therefore, Neolentinus lepideus which showed very high ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activity was selected as a new anti-diabetic agent-containing mushroom and the ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitor was maximally extracted when treated with 95% ethanol at $30^{\circ}C$ for 48 hr. The ethanol extracts from Neolentinus lepideus fruiting body showed dosage-dependent hypoglycemic action after administration to 120 min in the SD-rat and streptozotocin-induced diabetic SD-rat.

  • It is necessary to estimate the groundwater recharge rate properly to evaluate the reasonable development amount of groundwater in a specific site. A small basin in Wicheon River Basin located in the Province of Kyungsangbuk-Do is selected to calculate the groundwater recharge rate. Average annual groundwater recharge rates are calculated from 1992 to 1997 because wet and draught year are contained during this period. In the calculation, baseflow separation method and SCS-CN method are applied to this area. As a result of estimation by baseflow separation method, the value of groundwater recharge ratio is varied between 11.9% and 18.7%. The average annual recharge rate is 14.5%. The average annual recharge rate calculated by SCS-CN method is varied between 7.9% and 20.9%. The average annual recharge rate in the calculation period is 15.1%. The results show that the average annual recharge amount from infiltration in the study basin is 141.6mm and 147.4mm in each estimation method. It appears that the average annual recharge amount calculated for the long period containing wet and draught year by the two methods is useful for groundwater development.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of beta-tricalciumphosphate (${\beta}$-TCP) as a bone graft material on new bone formation and regeneration of mandible bone defect around dental implants. Methods: Both mandibular sites of ten rabbits were exposed. The experimental subjects were divided into two groups. Rabbits in the control group (right site of the mandible) had dental implants around cortical bone defects, without treatment, while, in the experimental group (left site of the mandible), ${\beta}$-TCP was grafted into the bone defect around the implant. Rabbits were sacrificed after one, two, three, four, and eight weeks, and histomorphometric evaluation and analysis of the bone implant contact rate were performed using an optical microscope. Results: Bone formation rates in the experimental group were greater than those in the control group from one to eight weeks, and percentages of implant surface contacted to bone were greater in the experimental group than in the control group from three weeks after implantation. Conclusion: These results suggest that the bone formation activity around dental implants was increased by osteoconduction activity of ${\beta}$-TCP.
