커먼레일식 디젤기관의 EGR율과 바이오디젤 혼합율에 따른 연소 및 배기 특성 (Effects of Bio-diesel blending rate on the Combustion and Emission Characteristics in a Common Rail Diesel Engine with EGR rate)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the specific characteristics of combustion and exhaust emissions on a 4-cylinder common rail diesel engine as EGR rate and the rate of blended bio-diesel was altered. Bio-diesel fuel which is a sort of alternative fuels can be adapted to diesel engine directly without modifying. This study was performed to 2000rpm of engine speed with torque 30Nm while EGR rate and the rate of blended bio-diesel was changed. Decreasing combustion pressure and increasing the rate of heat were occurred when we had changed the EGR rate on the 20% of bio-diesel blended diesel fuel. The maximum pressure of combustion and the IMEP became higher as the EGR rate and the rate of blended bio-diesel were changed. Exhaust gas temperature was increased the higher rate of the blended bio-diesel under the fixed EGR rate. However, it went down as the EGR rate increased. The amounts of CO and Soot were reduced with increasing the rate of the blended bio-diesel without changing EGR rate and raised with increasing of the EGR rate. On the fixed EGR rate, NOx was increased along with growing the rate of the bio-diesel. On the other hand, it was decreased while EGR rate were going up.

  • Although the demands for diesel engine is increased, our world is faced with very serious problems related to the air pollution due to the exhaust emissions of the diesel engine. In this study, the potential possibility of oxygenated fuel such as Methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) was investigated for the sake of exhausted smoke reduction from diesel engine. MTBE has been used as a fuel additive blended into unleaded gasoline to improve octane number, but the study of application for diesel engine was incomplete. Because MTBE includes oxygen content approximately 18%, it is a kind of oxygenated fuel that the smoke emission of MTBE is reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel, that is, it can supply oxygen component sufficiently at high load and speed in diesel engine. But, the NOx emission of MTBE blended fuel is increased compared with commercial diesel fuel. And. it was tried to analyze not only total hydrocarbon but individual hydrocarbon components from $C_1$to $C_{6}$ in exhaust gas using gas chromatography to seek the reason for remarkable reduction of smoke emission. The results of this study show three conclusions. 1. The smoke omission of the MTBE blended fuel is lower than that of the diesel fuel at all experimental region in direct injection diesel engine. 2. Individual hydrocarbons(C$_1$~ $C_{6}$) as well as total hydrocarbon of oxygenated fuel are reduced remarkably compared with diesel fuel. 3. Smoke emission from diesel engines was strongly depended on oxygen content in fuel regardless of operating condition.

선박추진용 기계적 캠 구동식 및 전자제어식 연료분사 시스템을 가진 저속 2행정 디젤엔진의 배기특성 비교 (Comparison of emission characteristics between fuel injection systems with echanical cam and electric control type on low speed 2 stroke diesel engine for ship propulsion)

  • 선박운항의 경제성, 효율성 및 편리성을 높이면서 친환경적인 선박에 대한 연구가 지속적으로 추진되고 있는데, 그 중 한 예로 전자제어식 디젤엔진의 개발을 들 수 있다. 그러나 전자제어식 엔진으로 추진되는 선박은 안전성과 신뢰성이 우려되고 있어 이들을 선박에 널리 보급하는데 어려움을 겪고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 전자제어식과 캠구동식 연료분사시스템을 탑재하고 있는 선박의 주기관을 이용하여 시스템별 배기성능을 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과 전자제어식의 경제적 운항 모드에서는 캠구동식과 비슷한 배기특성을 나타내었지만, 유해가스 저배출 모드의 100% 부하상태에서는 NOx를 100ppm 이상, HC의 경우 50% 부하상태에서는 10~20ppm을, 25% 부하상태에서는 35~40ppm을 캠구동식에 비해 저감시킨다. 연료소비율에 있어서는 25% 부하상태에서 압축압력을 캠 구동식에 비해 200bar 이상 증가시킨 700bar로 유지할 때 7g/kWh 정도 저감되었다.

  • 디젤엔진의 배출물 개선을 위해 탄소수가 낮은 천연가스를 혼합하여 사용하는 천연가스-디젤 혼소 연소가 각광받고 있다. 특히 자발화 특성에 차이가 있는 디젤과 천연가스의 특성을 이용한 반응성 제어 압축착화(reactivity controlled compression ignition, RCCI) 연소 전략을 통해 기존 디젤엔진의 효율과 배출가스를 동시에 개선시키는 연구가 활발하게 진행되어 왔다. 상사점보다 앞당겨진 디젤 직접 분사시기 적용을 통해 실린더 전체 영역의 균일 혼합기를 형성하여 전체적으로 희박한 자발화 기반 연소를 달성함으로써 질소산화물 (NOx) 및 입자상물질 (PM) 저감과 제동열효율 개선을 동시에 달성할 수 있다. 하지만 매우 희박한 저부하 영역에서 불완전 연소량이 증가하는 단점이 존재하며, 안정적인 연소 구현을 위해 디젤 분사시기가 민감하게 제어되어야 하는 어려움도 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 앞서 언급된 저부하 영역에서의 천연가스-디젤 혼소 엔진의 효율 및 배기 개선을 확인하고, 동시에 발전용 엔진 구동 영역에서 디젤 분사시기에 따른 연소안정성을 평가하였다. 실험에는 6 L급 상용디젤 엔진이 사용되었으며, 1,800 rpm, 50% 부하 영역 (~50 kW)에서 실험이 진행되었다. 제동효율 및 연소안정성을 개선하기 위한 전략으로 분무 패턴이 다른 2개의 인젝터를 적용하였으며, 천연가스/디젤 비율과 디젤 분사시기를 바꿔가면서 실험이 진행되었다. 실험 결과, 협각 분사가 추가된 수정 인젝터에서 제동 열효율이 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 연소안정성 및 출력, 그리고 강화된 배기 규제를 고려하였을 때 수정 인젝터의 분무 패턴이 예혼합연소 형성에 적합하였고 이를 통해 질소산화물 배출량을 Tier-V 기준치인 0.4 g/kWh 이하로 저감함으로써 RCCI 연소 가능 영역을 확장할 수 있음을 실험적으로 확인하였다.

  • 디젤 자동차의 점점 강화되는 $NO_X$ 배기가스 규제를 만족하기 위해서는 화학공학 기반의 SCR 반응모델을 사용한 모델기반 제어 알고리즘 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 소형 경유차량을 대상으로 $NO_X$ 를 저감하기 위한 배기 후처리 시스템 모델을 설계하기 위하여 SCR 시스템 모델링과 Rig 실험 및 Matlab 을 이용하여 시뮬레이션 및 검증을 하였다. SCR Rig 실험은 디젤엔진에서 배출되는 배기가스와 같은 성분의 모사가스를 생성하여 공간속도와 온도의 변화에 의한 SCR 의 $NO_X$ 저감효율에 대한 실험 조건 및 데이터를 획득하였다. 또한, 제안된 모델은 Rig 실험에서 사용한 실험조건과 결과데이터를 이용하여 Matlab 을 통해 검증하였으며 시뮬레이션 시 필요한 모델의 파라미터 값들은 실험데이터를 기반으로 최적화하였다.

디젤엔진에서 디젤, GTL, 바이오디젤의 혼합유의 배기배출물 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Emission Characteristics of Diesel, GTL, and their Blends with Biodiesel in a Diesel Engine)

  • An experimental study was carried out to investigate the emission characteristics for various alternative fuels in a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine. The conventional diesel fuel, neat GTL (Gas to Liquid), blends of diesel and biodiesel(BD20), and blends of GTL and biodiesel(G+BD20 and G+BD40) were applied, and their emission characteristics were compared at various steady-state engine operating conditions. A noticeable reduction of exhaust emissions compared to conventional diesel fuel, except for NOx emission, was observed for G+BD40, where there is a maximum 30% averaged reduction for gaseous emissions (THC and CO) and 70% for PM mass concentrations. When comparing PM size distributions for biodiesel blended fuels, the PM number concentration in accumulation mode, where the diameter of PM is greater than 50 nm, decreased due to additional oxygen content in the biodiesel fuel; in nucleation mode, where the diameter of PM is less than 50nm, there was a slight increase or decrease in the PM number concentration depending on the amount of oxygen available in the combustion chamber.

  • A cylindrical constant volume combustion chamber was used to investigate the exhaust emission characteristics of homogeneous charge, stratified pattern and inhomogeneous charge under various conditions using gas chromatography. In the case of homogeneous charge condition, the $CO_2$ concentration is proportional to excess air ratio and overall charge pressure, the $CO_2$ concentration is proportional to excess air ratio and the UHC concentration is inversely proportional to ignition time and overall charge pressure. In the case of stratified pattern, the RI(rich injection) condition shows better exhaust emission characteristics, especially $CO_2$, than that of HI (homogeneous injection) or LI (lean injection) conditions. In inhomogeneous charge conditions, when initial charge pressure is increased, $CO_2$ and UHC concentration is reduced but $O_2$ concentration is increased. And when the excess air ratio of initial charge mixture is 3.0, UHC and $CO_2$concentration show lowest values.

  • The static and dynamic behaviour of VGT and EGR systems has a significant impact on overall engine performance, fuel economy and exhaust emissions. This is because they define the state and composition of the air charge entering the engine. This work focused on the effect of the aperture ratio of VGT and EGR on the emission and flow characteristics under partial loads conditions. The investigation carried out using 2 liter PCCI 4 cylinder diesel engine with VGT and EGR. The result of this study shows that smoke increases with increasing EGR rate and NOx decreases with increasing EGR rate. It was also found that the residual gas contents greatly impact on soot emission under partial load condition. Finally, it can be concluded that VGT and EGR aperture ratio can greatly impact not only on soot and NOx but also air charging.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the effects of configuration of burner and air excess ratio on CO & NOx emission characteristics of the cooktop burners which are used extensively. In this study, the combustion characteristics were investigated with the variation of design factor of cooktop burners. The results showed that as the thermal input increases, flammable region go narrower. With the increase of loading height from the cap to grate, the CO emission decrease owing to the reduction of quenching by flame impingement on the load. Additionally, the CO emission increase with angle of main slot, however the NO emission is almost unaffected.

분사기 형상 변경을 통한 저온 디젤 연소의 배기 배출물 저감 (Reduction of Exhaust Emissions Using Various Injector Configurations in Low Temperature Diesel Combustion)

  • Low temperature combustion is one of the advanced combustion technology in an internal combustion engine to reduce soot and nitrogen oxides simultaneously. In present experiment three kinds of injector were used to investigate the influence of injection angle and number of nozzle holes on the low temperature combustion in a heavy duty diesel engine. Low temperature diesel combustion is realized from the exhaust gas recirculation rate of 60%. Indicated mean effective pressure of low temperature combustion corresponds to the 70% level of conventional diesel engine combustion. Reduction of hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide, which are produced in low temperature combustion because of the low combustion temperature and a deficit of oxygen, was achieved by using various injector configuration. The result of experiment with $100^{\circ}$ injection angle and 8 holes showed that reductions in hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide could be achieved 58% and 27% respectively maintaining the 7% increased indicated mean effective pressure in low temperature diesel combustion compared with conventional injector.
