Study on the Thermal Radiation Performance of the Multi-functional Structure Made of the Carbon Fiber Composite Material (탄소섬유 복합재를 이용한 위성용 다기능 구조체의 방열성능 분석)

  • The design strategy of the multi-functional structure is that the electrical components and the circuits are directly put on their supporting structural panel in which the radiation shields and the thermal control functions are integrated. Applying the multi-functional structure reduces the total mass and size of the space system and makes it possible to lower launch cost. In present study the performance of thermal radiation for six types of multi-functional structure are investigated by the numerical method. The effect of the rib configuration on heat transfer for the multi-functional-structure is not important alone but is meaningful considering with the structural stiffness, difficulty of manufacturing and mass increase. In heat spreading point of view, the thickness of the outer conductive layer is important rather than the rib configuration and the trade-off study with the mass and thickness is required for optimum design.

Shape Design of Heat Dissipating Flow Control Structure Within a DVR using Parametric Study (매개변수 연구 기법을 이용한 DVR 내부 방열 유동제어 구조물의 형상 설계)

  • In this study, the shape of the flow control structure within a DVR was designed for heat dissipation of the CPU. The proposed design consists of three thin metal plates, which directly controls the air flow inside the DVR box and forces the air to pass through the CPU, thereby efficiently dissipating heat from the CPU. The shape of the structure was determined using parametric studies. To verify the design result, we carried out a three-dimensional time dependent numerical analysis using a commercial fluid dynamics analysis package FlowVision. As a result of experiments with a real DVR equipment, it is confirmed that the temperature of the CPU is significantly reduced compared to the initial model.

  • The synchronous flash of a marine lantern, differentiated from the flash pattern of other risk indicators, supports the safe sailing of vessels. General marine lanterns flash according to the flash protocol through sensing the day and the night. Thus, there can be time error over time and the marine lantern does not synchronously flash as a whole. To resolve this problem, this study designed LED marine lantern based on constant-current system using synchronous flash technique enabling all marine lanterns to keep its time based on GPS satellite time. Also we suggested a radiation method with an effective heat emission performance in the restricted and closed space of a marine lantern.

  • The COMS, the first meteorological geostationary satellite in Korea, is under development by KARI. The radiator size and the heater power for the thermal control of COMS are calculated using an analytic method. The total radiator area of $4.85\;m^2$ and the total heater power of 794.77 W are determined at a conceptual design of COMS. The commercial software, SINDA and TRASYS, are utilized in order to compare and verify the analytic results. The results of on-orbit numerical simulation of cold and hot cases show that the radiator size and heater power obtained from the analytic method are appropriate to maintain COMS equipments within required temperature ranges.

  • LED는 광학특성을 유지하기 위해서 최적의 방열설계가 요구된다. 이 논문에서는 입력FR-4의 Top Layer의 면적을 506.25[$mm^2$]이상으로 확대함으로써, 인가 전력 0.5W 조건하에서 FR-4 PCB로 MCPCB와 유사한 방열 특성을 발휘할 수 있음을 열화상카메라를 통한 측정 및 전산모사를 이용하여 확인하였다.

  • A method for analyzing the heat dissipation rates of automotive radiators has been proposed and also a new model equation of heat transfer rate of louvered fins has been proposed and tested. With the method, the effect of various design parameters on the performance of a radiator has also been studied. The proposed model equation for air-side heat transfer has made fair predictions which agree well with the experiments. Also the design value of heat dissipation rate with various fin pitches and radiator size has a good agreement with the heat dissipation of the commercial automotive radiators. Thus, the method of analyzing the radiator performance proposed in this study might be used to design new automotive radiators.
