in a software development, the design or architecture prior to implementing the software is essential for the success. This paper presents a case that we successfully designed a software architecture of radiation monitoring system (RMS) for HANARO research reactor currently operating in KAERI by applying the quality attribute-driven design method which is modified from the attribute-driven design (ADD) introduced by Bass[1]. The quality attribute-driven design method consists of following procedures: eliciting functionality and quality requirements of system as architecture drivers, selecting tactics to satisfy the drivers, determining architectures based on the tactics, and implementing and validating the architectures. The availability, maintainability, and interchangeability were elicited as duality requirements, hot-standby dual servers and weak-coupled modulization were selected as tactics, and client-server structure and object-oriented data processing structure were determined at architectures for the RMS. The architecture was implemented using Adroit which is a commercial off-the-shelf software tool and was validated based on performing the function-oriented testing. We found that the design method in this paper is an efficient method for a project which has constraints such as low budget and short period of development time. The architecture will be reused for the development of other RMS in KAERI. Further works are necessary to quantitatively evaluate the architecture.
Research on the presence or absence of radiation shielding for FDM-type filaments has recently begun to be studied, but filaments with shielding capabilities are not sold in Korea, and not studies yet. Therefore, in this research, we will use HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) as a base material, select bismuth as a reinforcing material to manufacture a composite filament, evaluate the shielding ability, and provide basic data for the development of a radiation shielding composite material using 3D printing.A filament is produced by mixing Bismuth with an effective atomic number 83 with HDPE of PE series and adjusting the content of Bismuth to 20% wt, 30% wt, 40% wt. Compounded filaments were evaluated for their physical properties and shielding capabilities by ASTM evaluation methods. As the bismuth content increases, the density, weight, and tensile strength increase, and the shielding capacity is confirmed to be excellent. As a result of the radiation shielding capacity evaluation, it was confirmed that HDPE (80%) + Bi (20%) showed a shielding rate of 82% at 60 kV and a shielding rate of up to 94% or more at 40% bismuth content. In this study, we confirmed that it was possible to produce a radiation shield that is lighter than the metal particle-containing filaments. Furthermore, that have been shield radiation by using HDPE + Bi filaments, and radiation in the medical and radiation industries. The possibility of using it as a shielding complex was confirmed.

This study was performed to assess the radiopacity of a variety of root canal sealers according to the specification concerning root canal sealers. Ten materials including Tubli-$Seal^{TM}$. Kerr Pulp Canal $Sealer^{TM}$, AH $26^{(R)}$, AH $plus^{(R)}$, AH plus $jet^{TM}$, Ad sea $1^{TM}$. $Sealer^{TM}$, $NOGENOL^{TM}$, ZOB $seal^{TM}$, $Epiphany^{TM}$ and dentin were evaluated in this study. In the first part, densitometric reading of an each step of aluminum step wedge on occlusal film was performed at different voltage and exposure time. In the second part, ten specimens were radiographed simultaneously with an aluminum step wedges on the occlusal films under decided condition. The mean radiographic density values of the materials were transformed into radiopacity expressed equivalent thickness of aluminum (mm Al). The following results were obtained. 1. Among the various conditions, the appropriate voltage and exposure time that meet the requirement density was 60 kVp at 0.2 s 2. All of the materials had greater radiopacity than 3 mm Al requirement of ANSI/ADA specification No. 57 (2000) and ISO No. 6876 (2001) standards. 3. The radiopacity of materials increased as thickness of materials increased. 4. The mm Al value of each specimen at 1mm in thickness has a significant difference in the statistics. It suggests that root canal sealers have a sufficient radiopacity that meet the requirement.
In 3D printing technology, materials that can be printed are increasing along with the development of material engineering, and materials that can be used in the field of radiation are also increasing. Therefore, depending on the composition and density of the materials used, the applied field can be different and applied, so the composition and characteristics of the materials must also be considered. In this study, 10 filaments with different properties were selected using a 3D printer of the FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) method, and the brightness change of each filament was checked using a diagnostic X-ray generator, and the CT number was measured through CT. I wanted to find a material similar to bone. As a result, a material called silicon carbide was found, which has a similar brightness and CT number to bone. It is thought that further research will be presented as basic data for various studies with a density similar to that of human bones.

This study determined the photostimulated luminescence(PSL), thermoluminescence(TL), and electron spin resonance(ESR) properties of wheat and corn irradiated with 0-10 kGy of gamma-ray or electron-beam. PSL values of both irradiated grains, regardless of radiation source, were 241-429 photons/sec in nonirradiated samples(negative values, defined as ${\leq}700$ photons/60 sec) and 5,528-40,870 photons/60 sec in irradiated ones(positive values, defined as ${\geq}5,000$ photons/sec), thereby distinguishing irradiated from nonirradiated samples. The TL glow curves($TL_1$) peaked at around $300^{\circ}C$ in nonirradiated samples, but at about $180^{\circ}C$ in irradiated samples, at high intensities, regardless of radiation source. The TL ratios($TL_1/TL_2$) calculated to strengthen $TL_1$ data reliability were less than 0.03 for nonirradiated samples and over 0.20 for irradiated materials, in good agreement with threshold values for nonirradiated(${\leq}0.1$) and irradiated(${\geq}0.1$) samples. ESR analysis was not applicable in identification of irradiated wheat and corn. Electron-beam irradiation resulted in higher PSL and TL signals than did gamma-rays, at the same applied doses.
Phosphate rock, phosphogypsum, and products in phosphate processing facility contain naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM). Therefore, they may give rise to enhanced radiation dose to workers due to inhalation of airborne particulates. Internal dose due to particle inhalation varies depending on particle properties. The objective of the present study was to characterize particle properties at the largest phosphate processing facility in Korea. A cascade impactor was employed to sample airborne particulates at various processing areas in the plant. The collected samples were used for characterization of particle size distribution, particle concentration in the air, and shape analysis. Aerodynamic diameters of airborne particulates ranged 0.03-100 ${\mu}m$ with the highest concentration at the particle size range of 4.7-5.8 ${\mu}m$ (geometric mean = 5.22 ${\mu}m$) or 5.8-9.0 ${\mu}m$ (geometric mean = 7.22 ${\mu}m$). Particle concentrations in the air varied widely by sampling area up to more than two orders of magnitude. The large variation resulted from the variability of mechanical operations and building ventilations. The airborne particulates appeared as spheroids or rough spherical fragments across all sampling areas and sampled size intervals. Average mass densities of phosphate rocks, phosphogypsums, and fertilizers were 3.1-3.4, 2.1-2.6, and 1.7 $gcm^{-3}$, respectively. Radioactivity concentration of uranium series in phosphate rocks varied with country of origin, ranging 94-866 $Bqkg^{-1}$. Among the uranium series, uranium was mostly concentrated on products, including phosphoric acid or fertilizers whereas radium was concentrated on byproducts or phosphogypsum. No significant radioactivity of $^{226}Ra$ and $^{228}Ra$ were found in fertilizer. However, $^{40}K$ concentration in fertilizer was up to 5,000 Bq $g^{-1}$. The database established in this study can be used for the accurate risk assessment of workers due to inhalation of airborne particles containing NORM. In addition, the findings can be used as a basic data for development of safety standard and guide and for practical radiation safety management at the facility.

Objectives: Bolus, which combines 3D-bolus and Step-bolus, was produced and its usefulness is evaluated. Materials and Methods: A Bolus was manufactured with a thickness of 10mm and 5mm using a 3D printer (3D printer, USA), and a Step Bolus of 5mm was bonded to a 5mm thick bolus. In order to understand the characteristics of Step bolus and 3D bolus, the differences in relative electron density, HU value, and mass density of the two bolus were investigated. These two Bolus were applied to anthropomorpic phantom to confirm its effectiveness. After all contouring of the phantom, a treatment plan was established using the computed treatment planning system (Eclipse 16.1, Varian medical system, USA). Treatment plan was performed using electron beam 6MeV, nine dose measurement points were designated on the phantom chest, air-gap was measured at that point, and dose evaluation was performed at the same point for each bolus applied using a glass dosimeter (PLD). Results: Bolus, which combines 3D-bolus 5mm and Step-bolus 5mm, was manufactured and evaluated compared with 3D-bolus 1cm. The relative electron density of 3D Bolus was 1.0559 g/cm2 and the step Bolus was 1.0590 g/cm2, which was different by 0.01%, so the relative electron density was almost the same. In the lightweight measurement of air-gap, the combined bolus was reduced to 54.32% for all designated points compared to 3D-bolus. In the dose measurement using a glass dose meter (PLD), the consistency was high in phantom using combined bolus at most points except the slope point. Conclusion: Combined bolus made by combining 3D-bolus and Step-bolus has all the advantages of 3D-bolus and Step-bolus. In addition, by dose inaccuracy due to Air-gap, more improved dose distribution can be shown, and effective radiation therapy can be performed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate image differences between KVCT vs MVCT depending on a high densities metal included in the phantom and to analyze the r values for the purpose of the dose differences between each methods. We verified the possibilities for clinical indications that using MVCT is available for the radiation therapy treatment planning. Cheese phantom was used to get a density table for each CT and CT sinogram data was transferred to radiation planning computer through DICOM_RT. Using this data, the treatment dose plan has been calculated in RTP system. We compared the differences of r values between calculated and measured values, and then applied this data to the real patient's treatment planning. The contrast of MVCT image was superior to KVCT. In KVCT, each pixel which has more than 3.0 of density was difficult to be differentiated, but in MVCT, more than 5.0 density of pixels were distinguished clearly. With the normal phantom, the percentage of the case which has less than 1($r\leq1$, acceptable criteria) of gamma value, was 94.92% for KVCT and 93.87% for MVCT. But with the cheese phantom, which has high density plug, the percentage was 88.25% for KVCT and 93.77% for MVCT respectively. MVCT has many advantages than KVCT. Especially, when the patient has high density metal, such as total hip arthroplasty, MVCT is more efficient to define the anatomical structure around the high density implants without any artifacts. MVCT helps to calculate the treatment dose more accurately.
A 5-day germination test is applicable to detect biological changes in irradiated wheat and barley at low doses. Seeds were irradiated at below 0.5 kGy, husked and placed on distilled water-moistend filter paper in a covered Petri-dish. Water was supplied everyday. To evaluate the growth rate, the length of shoots and roots was measured during germination. In wheat, the shoots of all samples grew well during 5 days, but the shoot length and the daily growth extent decreased with increasing doses. The roots of non-irradiated wheat showed the highest daily growth extent during 5 days and the root length was over 20 mm at 3rd day. In barley, the growth of shoots and roots was retarded at 0.3 kGy or more after 3 days. It was concluded that if the root length was 20mm or longer within 3 days, wheat and barley were identified as non-irradiated. The germination test was proved a promising screening method for the detection of irradiated wheal and barley.
