  • Shadows are common phenomena observed in natural scenes and often bring a major problem that is affected negatively in colour image analysis. It is important to detect the shadow areas and should be considered in the pre-processing of computer vision. In this paper, the method of shadow detection is proposed using cross entropy and intensity image, and is performed in single image based on the satellite images. After converting the color image to a gray level image, the shadow candidate region has been estimated the optimal threshold value by cross entropy, and then the final shadow region has been detected using intensity image. For the validity of the proposed method, the satellite images is used to experiment. Some experiments are conducted so as to verify the proposed method, and as a result, shadow detection is well performed.

  • Due to light condition or shadow around camera, acquired image sequence is often degraded by intensity fluctuation. This artifact is called luminance flicker. As the luminance flicker corrupts the performance of motion estimation or object detection, it should be corrected before further processing. In this paper, we analyze the flicker generation model and propose the new algorithm for flicker reduction. The proposed algorithm considers gain and offset parameter separately, and stabilizes the luminance fluctuation based on these parameters. We show the performance of the proposed method by testing on the sequence with artificially added luminance flicker and real sequence with object motion.

  • Visible light communication(VLC) system based on LED devices has some specific advantages compared with RF system. First, visible light is harmless to human and there is no limit to using frequency band. Also, VLC system has good security performance, and it can use the very wide frequency band for data transmission. However, for simultaneously using the illumination and data transmission in VLC systems, degradation of code rate is occurred. So, in this paper, we proposed the novel line coding scheme for flicker free and efficient dimming control in VLC systems. From the simulation results, it is confirmed that proposed scheme has good flicker, dimming, and transmission performance compared to conventional variable pulse position modulation(VPPM) scheme.

  • In recent, many researches have been studying sensitivity and psychology of human being on color and the necessity of psychology therapy by color. Among them, a picture of children can be a tool to represent their emotion. Information of colors and direction on a child's picture often represent his internal psychological states unconsciously and is different from the brightness of a color. In this paper, we propose a method to extract domain colors by color classification and subdivision the classes of brightness using fuzzy inference. In addition, it is shown that our method is used for analysing the psychology status of children through their pictures.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm both geometric correction using a grid point image and radiometric adaptive projection that dependent upon the luminance of the input image and that of the background. This method projects and captures the grid point image then calculates the geometrically corrected position by difference between the two images. Next, to compensate color, a corrected image is calculated by the ratio divided luminance of an input image by luminance of arbitrary surface. In addition, we found the scaling factor which controls the contrast to avoid clipping error. At this time, the scaling factor is dependent on mean image lightness when background is determined. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves good performance and is able to reduce the perceived color clipping and artifacts, better approximating the projection on a white screen.

  • Image enhancement has become an important area of study with the recent development of hi-fidelity devices, such as UHD displays. While conventional methods are able to enhance the image contrast and detail, this sometimes results in contrast reversion in boundary region. Therefore, this paper proposes the use of multi-layers and intensity deviation in boundary areas to enhance the perceived image quality. First, the image contrast of individual blocks is enhanced using multi-layers with different sizes. After calculating the block boundaries, weights are then determined based on the intensity deviation and used to enhance the image detail. Experiments with several test images confirm that the proposed algorithm is superior that image contrast and detail to conventional methods.

  • In IRST(infrared search and track) system, the small target detection is very difficult because the IR(infrared) image have various clutter and sensor noise. The noise and clutter similar to the target intensity value produce many false alarms. In this paper. We propose the adaptive detection method which obtains optimal target detection using the image intensity information and the prior information of target. In order to enhance the target, we apply the human visual system. we determine the adaptive threshold value using image intensity and distance measure in target enhancement image. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method can efficiently extract target region in various IR images.

  • This paper proposed an adaptive threshold method for detecting flame candidate regions in a infrared image and it adapts according to the contrast and intensity changes in the image. Conventional flame detection systems uses fixed threshold method since surveillance environment does not change, once the system installed. But it needs a adaptive threshold method as requirements of surveillance system has changed. The proposed adaptive threshold algorithm uses the dynamic behavior of flame as featured parameter. The test result is analysed by comparing test result of proposed adaptive threshold algorithm and conventional fixed threshold method. The analysed data shows, the proposed method has 91.42% of correct detection rate and false detection is reduced by 20% comparing to the conventional method.

  • Seam finding algorithm is one of the most important techniques to construct the high quality 360 VR image. We found that some degradations, such as ghost effect, are generated when the conventional seam finding algorithms (for examples, Voronoi algorithm, Dynamic Programming algorithm, Graph Cut algorithm) are applied, because those make the inefficient masks which cross the body of main objects. In this paper, we proposed an advanced seam finding algorithm providing the efficient masks which go through background region, instead of the body of objects. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional techniques in the viewpoint of the quality of the stitched image.

  • Change detection algorithms take two image frames and return the locations of newly introduced objects which cause differences between the images. This paper presents a new change detection method, which classifies intensity changes due to introduced objects, reflected light and shadow from the objects to their neighborhood, and the noise, and exactly localizes the introduced objects. For classification and localization, first we analyze the histogram of the intensity difference between two images, and estimate multiple threshold values. Second we estimate candidate object boundaries using the gradient difference between two images. Using those threshold values and candidate object boundaries, we segment the frame difference image into multiple regions. Finally we classify whether each region belongs to the introduced objects or not using textures in the region. Experiments show that the proposed method exactly localizes the objects in various scenes with different lighting.
