  • This study had the goal of analyzing the economic feasibility and constructability of a fire resistant curtain wall system using Light-weight Inorganic Composite Foam Board(LI-CFB). LI-CFBs, new materials with excellent fire resistance are being developed for use as the back panel of curtain wall and their fire resistance has already been analyzed through actual tests in earlier studies. In this study, a mock-up test involving the installation of the fire resistant curtain wall system on an actual building was conducted, and the system was compared with a common curtain wall system. This system is applied in the same way as a common curtain wall system. But the cutting LI-CFBs, which are brought from a factory, are used in the system and attached on the frame (mullion and transom). Even though the system requires more working time than the existing system, the LI-CFBs back panels are easy to cut and do not produce dust. Also, the panels are able to be assured the quality by checking damaged parts easily. Besides having a high level of fire resistance, the system's economic feasibility and constructability meets or exceeds those of the existing system.

  • In this study, non-flammable mineral foam board using waste glass that can be produced to standardized specifications were developed and evaluated for the performance. In addition to the physical and mechanical performance, the environmental properties such as insulation, non-combustibility, gas hazard, sound absorption, etc. were tested to verify the use as interior and exterior building materials. Through the structural review, the validity was verified for the application of the office and restaurant building.

  • To prevent energy waste in buildings used heat insulator. Heat insulator materials can be classified inorganic and organic. The inorganic material has lower water resistance. The inorganic material is heavy and worse thermal performance than organic materials. Technologies on energy saving and materials used in curtain walls have progressed with increase of high-rise and large buildings. However, there is little study to explain water resistance performance of the curtain walls. This study focused on evaluation of insulation of inorganic materials and performance evaluation by thermal conductivity.

  • The fire retardant bamboo charcoal (BC) boards were manufactured for interior building materials in this study, The BC boards were manufactured by mixing and pressing of the bamboo charcoal, expanded vermiculite, and inorganic binder. The combustion behaviors of the BC boards were investigated using a cone calorimeter at an incident heat flux of 50 kW/$m^2$. Three building materials (plywood, BC board of Japan, and gypsum board) were used to observe the burning behaviors of weight loss, total heat release rate, and maximum heat release rate. Surface test and toxicity evaluation of the BC board were also conducted. The weight loss of the BC board (12.0%) was lower than the nonflammable gypsum board (15.6%) after burning of 10 min. Total heat release of the BC was 3 MJ/$m^2$ (KS standard 8 MJ/$m^2$) and total heat release rate of the BC was 20 kW/$m^2$ (KS standard 200 kW/$m^2$). Therefore, the BC boards were adjustable for the third-grade flame retardant building materials. External appearance change and mouse toxicity were not found in the BC boards after the combustion test.

  • Lightweight board has been used for manufacturing various fields of automotive interior trims for years. The GMPU board was constructed with glass fiber mat, honeycomb and polyurethane foamed using polyol and isocyanate materials which were sprayed by robot that is interlocked foaming machine. For more lightweight and cost reduction this paper shows how to optimize GMPU process parameters that related to foaming condition, robot position and robot velocity for polyurethane weight. The results show that flexural strength and modulus of board's specimens were evaluated by robot velocity and moving pattern. Based on that, a innovative process was developed for more lightweight and cost reduction.

  • Lightweight geopolymers are more readily produced and give higher fire resistant performance than foam cement concrete. Lowering the density of solid geopolymers can be achieved by inducing chemical reactions that entrain gases to foam the geopolymer structure. This paper reports on the effects of adding different concentrations of aluminum powder on the properties of cellular structured geopolymers. The apparent density of lightweight geopolymers has a range from 0.7 to $1.2g/m^3$ with 0.025, 0.05 and 0.10 wt% of a foaming agent concentration, which corresponds to about 37~60 % of the apparent density, $1.96g/cm^3$, of solid geopolymers. The compressive strength of cellular structured geopolymers decreased to 6~18 % of the compressive strength, 45 MPa of solid geopolymers. The microstructure of geopolymers gel was equivalent for both solid and cellular structured geopolymers. The workability of geopolymers with polyprophylene fibers needs to be improved as in fiber-reinforced cement concrete. The lightweight geopolymers could be used as indoor wall tile or board due to fire resistance and incombustibility of geopolymers.
