Performance Analysis of RRA_CDMA MAC Protocol In the Cellular Parket CDMA Systems (셀룰러 패킷 CDMA 시스템에서 RRA_CDMA MAC 프로토콜의 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, an RRA_CDMA protocol is proposed for the integrated voice and data services in the cellular packet CDMA systems. The proposed protocol employs the RRA scheme. In the cellular CDMA systems, the backward logical channels are composed of time slots with multiple spreading codes per slot based on WB-TD-CDMA concept. When a voice terminal begins a talkspurt, it reserves one of the available spreading codes in the next slot and uses the reserved channel exclusively untill it ends the talkspurt. On th other hand, whenever a data terminal generates a packet, it selects an avaliable spreading code and transmits its packet. Throughout the results, it is shown that the system capacity increases in proportion to the number of spreading codes.

  • In this thesis, experiment have performed with the speaker recognition using multilayer feedforward neural network(MFNN) model using Korean and Japanese digits . The 5 adult males and 5 adult females pronounciate form 0 to 9 digits of Korean, Japanese 7 times. And then, they are extracted characteristics coefficient through Pitch deletion algorithm, LPC analysis, and LPC Cepstral analysis to generate input pattern of MFNN. 5 times among them are used to train a neural network, and 2 times is used to measure the performance of neural network. Both Korean and Japanese, Pitch coefficients is about 4%t more enhanced than LPC or LPC Cepstral coefficients.

  • 선천이상 중에서도 순열과 구개열은 특상한 성질의 것으로서 안모의 변형, 발음장애, 신체타부와의 관계기형, 이비인후과질환을 병발하기 쉽고, 호흡기, 소화기 질환에 이환되기 쉬으며 환자는 정신적, 사회적으로도 매우 불리한 위치에 놓여 있는 신체장애자로, Fogh-Anderson은 순열과 구개열은 열성반성유전(recessive sexlinked heredity)을 한다고 보고했다. 그러나 구개열은 유전적추적이 불가능하기 때문에 그 발생원인으로 물리적원인을 우선적으로 들고있다. 발생기전은 태생 8~12조경의 제2차구개형성기에 어떤 이유로 양측의 구개돌기(palatine process)와 비중격이 분리되있는 채로 있든가, 접근해서도 유합되지 않고 있든가의 조해요인으로 태아의 모태내에 있어서의 자세, 특히 흉부에 의한 하악골압박에 의해 발생하는 소악증(micromandible), 설하수(glossoptosis)를 동반하는 Pierr Robin syndrome, 태생 8~10조경까지의 혀의 만기정유, 지, 제대의 원시구강내로의 미입등을 들수있다. 순열 및 구개열환자의 치료에 있어서 종래에는 전과정이 외과의사에게만 맡겨졌었으나, 구순, 비부의 추형등의 문제, 특징적으로 발생되는 하악의 열성장, 이별궁이 왜형, 발음장애등의 문제점해결을 위하여 필연적으로 이에 관계있는 명기다른 전문분야의 전문의가 시술에 임하게되는 multidiscipline approach로서 종합진단, 장기치료계획의 입안, 전문적 의견의 교환을 통해서 치료시기, 치료순서의 결정으로 성공적인 순열및 구개열의 치료목표를 달성하리라고 생각한다.

  • Preprocessing in speech recognition system is useful, for it reduces some of the complicated procedures required for the final recognition. In this paper, we suggest a new preprocessing algorithm for detecting the intervals of implosive stop sounds. Implosive stop sounds follow vowels in Korean language, and its characteristic is included in the region of vowels. When an implosive stop is pronounced, the velum is quickly colsed, thus its energy decays abruptly and the closure lasts for about 50 to 150 msec. The enegy difference between adjacent frames is chosen as a parameter which represents well the above features.

Psychological Effects of Gamification on Young Learners: Focusing on a Serious Game for English Phoneme Discrimination (기능성게임을 활용한 게이미피케이션 영어 발음 학습이 초등학생의 정의적 영역에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the psychological effects of using a serious game with young learners in the English classroom compared with those of a dictionary application. A tablet PC-based serious game was created for the training of English phoneme discrimination for Korean 6th graders, and its psychological effects were measured using a paper-based survey and face-to-face interviews. The overall results revealed that the serious game had more positive psychological effects on young learners than the dictionary app. These findings provide supporting empirical evidence for using serious games in English classrooms.

The Effectiveness of Explicit Form-Focused Instruction in Teaching the Schwa /ə/ (영어 약모음 /ə/ 교수에 있어서 명시적 Form-Focused Instruction의 효과 연구)

  • This study aimed to explore how effective explicit form-focused instruction (FFI) is in teaching the schwa vowel /ə/ to EFL students in a classroom setting. The participants were 25 female high school students, who were divided into the experimental group (n=13) and the control group (n=12). One female American also participated in the study for a speech sample as a reference. The treatment, which involves shadowing model pronunciation by the researcher and a free text-to-speech software and the researcher's feedback in a private session, was given to the control group over a month and a half. The speech samples, for which the participants read the 14 polysyllabic stimulus words followed by the sentences containing the words, were collected before and after the treatment. The paired-samples t test and non-parametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used for analysis. The results showed that the participants of the experimental group in the post-test reduced the duration of the schwa by around 40 percent compared to the pre-test. However, little effect was found in approximating the participants' distribution patterns of /ə/ measured by the F1/F2 formant frequencies to the reference point, which was 539 Hz (F1) by 1797 Hz (F2). The findings of this study suggest that explicit FFI with multiple repetitions and corrective feedback is partly effective in teaching pronunciation.

A Comparative Study on the Public Speech Spectrum between ROK and USA Politicians (한국과 미국 정치인 대중연설 음성의 스펙트럼 비교 연구)

  • In this study, we focused on the importance of politicians' voices in sending a message. Different factors for a voice may play different roles in sending a message and affect message recipients' responsiveness, understanding, and so on. For this reason, it can be said that an analytical study on voices in sending a diversity of messages is a meaningful attempt. We took interest in politicians' voices because we determined that a voice should be very important to politicians frequently sending a message through speech to the nation and others. This study aimed to investigate the voices of politicians, who represent their nation. We intended to select politicians representing ROK(Republic of Korea; South Korean) and USA(United States of America), choose representative speeches to the nation, make a comparative analysis of their voices in the speeches, and draw implications. We analyzed a total of eight voices - four ROK politicians and four USA ones, male and female - to characterize them and suggest guidelines for a voice with clearer message delivery. We analyzed the politicians' voices on the basis of such vocal properties as vocal pitch, accuracy of pronunciation, resonance, and intonation variation and found that the ROK politicians were somewhat poorer at utilizing their voice than the US ones. In particular, they were remarkably poorer at accurate pronunciation, which exerts a significant impact on message passing.

  • It is quite useful to represent speeches visually for learners who study foreign languages as well as the hearing impaired who cannot directly hear speeches, and a number of researches have been presented in the literature. They remain, however, at the level of representing the characteristics of speeches using colors or showing the changing shape of lips and mouth using the animation-based representation. As a result of such approaches, those methods cannot tell the users how far their pronunciations are away from the standard ones, and moreover they make it technically difficult to develop such a system in which users can correct their pronunciation in an interactive manner. In order to address these kind of drawbacks, this paper proposes a speech visualization model based on the relative distance between the user's speech and the standard one, furthermore suggests actual implementation directions by applying the proposed model to the visualization of Korean vowels. The method extract three formants F1, F2, and F3 from speech signals and feed them into the Kohonen's SOM to map the results into 2-D screen and represent each speech as a pint on the screen. We have presented a real system implemented using the open source formant analysis software on the speech of a Korean instructor and several foreign students studying Korean language, in which the user interface was built using the Javascript for the screen display.
