Fabrication and Characterization of Zirconia-Alumina Composites by Organic-Inorganic Solution Technique (유기물-무기물 용액법을 이용한 지르코니아-알루미나 복합체의 제조 및 특성)

  • Zirconia-alumina polymer precursor was prepared from zirconium acetylacetonate (ZA). paluminium nitrate (AN), polyethylene glycol (PEG), and ethyl alcohol via an organic-inorganic solution technique. The thermal properties and viscosity of the polymer precursor were measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermograbimetric analyzer (TGA), and dynamic viscometer. The vigorous exothermic reaction with volume expansion occurred at $140^{\circ}C$. The volume expansion was caused by abrupt decomposition of the organic group in metal compounds and the metal ions-PEG reaction. The evidences for these reactions were confirmed by FT-IR and $^{13}C$ solid NMR results. The peak intensity at N-O, O-H and C=C decreased with increasing temperature. This indicated that the decomposition of metal compounds and the metal ions-PEG reaction occurred during the vigorous exothermic reaction. At $800^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, the porous powders transformed to the crystalline $ZrO_2-Al_2O_3$ composites.

Experimental Study on Properties of Temperature History Using Heating Sheet and Insulation Form at Low Temperature (발열시트 및 단열재를 사용한 거푸집 내부 콘크리트의 저온환경하 온도이력 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, in order to prevent the frost damage of the concrete, the characteristics of the form using heating sheet utilizing the chemical reaction of quicklime and the insulation were evaluated through experiments at low temperature. In the case of form at $-10^{\circ}C$, the form with attached heating sheet showed a temperature history of more than $10^{\circ}C$ higher than that of wood form at the early of concreting due to heat of the quicklime in the heating sheet. In the case of the insulated form, the concrete was kept at a high temperature by preserving the hydration heat. When the heating sheet and the isopink(extruded polystyrene) were attached together on the form, the effect was the same as that of the vacuum insulation. The compressive strength of the form with vacuum insulation and form with isopink, heating sheet as measured about 5 MPa at age 3. The experimental in Mongolia, as with the pervious results, the form with the heating sheet and the insulation showed the highest temperature history over $25^{\circ}C$ for 48 hours. Therefore, it was confirmed that the heating sheet and insulation are attached to the form, which helps the concrete strength development at low temperature by heat generation and the insulation effect.

  • Thermal transient tests were performed on the electric initiator with STS 304 bridgewire(diameter 2.3 mil) and $Zr-KCIO_4$ primary charge. Analysing the test data using fitted Wire Model shows that the thermal characteristic parameter related to primary charge is changed sharply around $300^{\circ}C$. It is determined that this phenomenon is due to endothermic reaction from phase transition of $KCIO_4$, which is a component of the primary charge.

  • KD는 아직 발병인자가 밝혀져 있지 않아 특별한 검사방법 없이 임상소견에 의존하여 진단하여야 하고 조기진단만이 CAD을 예방할 수 있는 중요한 후천성 심장질환이다. 그러나 발열과 5가지의 고전적인 진단기준에 부합되지 않고 발열과 4가지 미만의 진단기준 또는 전체 6가지 중 3-4가지 진단기준 만이 관찰되는 AKD는 조기진단이 어려워 전형적인 KD보다 CAL의 발생률이 높다. 특히 1세 미만의 영아에서는 모든 임상소견이 사라진 후 아급성기에 나타나는 손과 발의 낙설을 보고 후향적으로 진단을 하는 경우가 많다. 따라서 AKD에서 관상동맥합병증을 예방하려면 오랜 기간 동안 원인을 찾을 수 없고, 항생제에 반응하지 않는 발열이 있을 때에는 고전적인 진단기준에 얽매이지 말고 항상 high index of suspicion을 적용하여 필요할 때마다 CAL의 유무를 조사하고 가능한 빠른 시기에 치료하여야 할 것이다.

Clinical Significance of Pyuria in Pediatric Patients with Febrile Urinary Tract Infection (발열성 소아 요로감염에서 농뇨의 임상적 의의)

  • Purpose: Early diagnosis and treatment of febrile urinary tract infection (UTI) in children is important to prevent kidney damage. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between the presence of pyuria, the severity, and underlying genitourinary anomalies in patients with UTI. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 293 patients with febrile UTI who were admitted to Korea University Guro Hospital during the period from June, 2007 until January, 2010. We divided the patients into two groups, one with the finding of pyuria at admission, and the other without, and compared the fever duration, white blood cell counts (WBC) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in peripheral bloods, hydronephrosis, cortical defects, vesicoureteral reflux and admission period. Results: Among the 293 patients with febrile UTI, 189 patients showed findings of pyuria whereas 104 patients did not. Patients with pyuria showed an increment of WBC ($14,694{\pm}485.2$ vs. $11,374{\pm}451.2/uL$, P <0.05) and CRP ($46.9{\pm}3.9$ vs $17.1{\pm}3.6$ mg/L, P <0.05) in peripheral blood sample. The presence of cortical defects (21.7 Vs 5.8%, P <0.05) and vesicoureteral reflux (15.9 Vs 6.7%, P <0.05) was also increased in patients with pyuria compared to patients without pyuria. There were no specific differences in fever duration, admission period, and hydronephrosis. Within the group with pyuria, CRP in peripheral blood sample increased proportionally with the increment of pyuria (P <0.05). Conclusion: In patients with febrile UTI, the increment of WBC in the urine sample can be a helpful predictor for increased CRP in peripheral blood and acute pyelonephritis.

  • SiC is synthesized by sol-gel and carbothermal reaction method from various carbon sources and Si source and characterized through the results of DSC and XRD. More SiC has been formed in carbothermal reaction than sol-gel method. From the XRD results, the degree of formation of SiC increases in the order of petroleum cokes, activated carbon, artificial graphite all in two introduced methods. Based on the DSC data, the enthalpy values for the exothermic reaction decrease in the order of activated carbon, petroleum cokes, artificial graphite in carbothermal reaction methods, while those for the endothermic reactions increase in the reverse order. But, the enthalpy values for the exothermic reactions decrease in the order of petroleum cokes, activated carbon, artificial graphite in sol-gel methods.

  • An animal fat is an attractive biodiesel energy source for its high stability against oxidation and low incomplete combustion ratio due to the high heating value and cetane value. However, it requires a refinery process because of the high content of saturated acid and impurity which increas the boiling point. In this study, the optimum biodiesel synthetic process of lard is suggested. Indeed, we demonstrate new biodiesel production processes to alter conventional process of heating and mixing by applying ultrasonic energy. While the optimum reaction temperature and mole ratio of methanol and lard, when using conventional mixing and heating process, were $55^{\circ}C$ and 12, respectively, the reaction time were reduced to 30 minutes by applying ultrasonic irradiation power of 500 W. The new process applying ultrasonic irradiation yielded synthetic biodiesel properties as followings: 3.34 cP of the viscosity, 37.0 MJ/kg of the caloric value and below 0.25 mgKOH/g of the acidic value, which satisfy biodiesel quality criteria.

  • In this work, torrefaction of the sewage sludge was investigated the characteristics of torrefied products and the value of as energy resource to improve energy density and to maintain consistent quality of SRF. Torrefaction was performed two important torrefaction operational parameter, temperature($150-230^{\circ}C$) and reaction time(10-60min). As raising the torrefaction temperature at long reaction times, the moisture content of torrefied products was decreased, while the heating value was increased. Moreover, increasing of the torrefaction temperature led to a increase of the content of the carbon up to 60% compare to the initial the sample, and a decrease of the content hydrogen and oxygen. Especially, Average heating value was 4,818 kcal/kg regardless of the reaction time when torrefaction was performed over $210^{\circ}C$. In addition, the fuel ration and coal band were improved after torrefaction because the O/C and the H/C ratio were decreased.

Properties of Autogenous Shrinkage according to Hydration Heat Velocity of High Strength Concrete Considering Mass Member (매스부재를 고려한 고강도콘크리트의 수화발열상승속도 조절에 따른 자기수축 특성)

  • In this study, to reduce the hydration heat velocity (HHV) of high-strength mass concrete at early ages, phase change materials (PCM) that could absorb hydration heat were applied, and the changes in autogenous shrinkage were investigated, as well as the relationship between the hydration temperature and autogenous shrinkage. The acceleration of the cement hydration process by the PCM leads to an early setting and a higher development of the compressive strength and elastic modulus of concrete at very early ages. The function of PCM could be worked below the original melting point due to the eutectic effect, while the hydration temperature and HHV of high-strength mass concrete can be decreased through the use of the PCM. A close relationship was found between the hydration temperature and autogenous shrinkage: the higher the HHV, the greater the ultimate autogenous shrinkage.
