  • of a microstrip transmission line, this transmission line can operate as the microstrip line or the coplanar line according to open or short connection between the ungrounded copper plane and grounded plane on the base plane. Two different type operation of the transmission line means that one transmission line can have two different characteristic impedances. This paper proposes and fabricates the circuit to be operated 2-ports power transmission line or 2-way power divider with the stable input matching characteristic by using this dual-impedance transmission line. The proposed circuit operates 2-ports power transmission line in case of the coplanar line or 2-way power divider line in case of the microstrip line. The fabricated circuit shows $S_{21}$ > -0.2 dB and $S_{11}$ < -15 dB above 700 MHz when the circuit operates 2-ports power transmission line. And, it is $S_{21}$ > -3.8 dB, $S_{11}$ < -10 dB and $S_{21}/S_{31}$ < ${\pm}0.3dB$ above 700 MHz when the circuit operates 2-way power divider.

  • This paper presents the reflection and transmission measurements conducted at the 60GHz suitable to provide a high speed wide band service. Mean received power and standard deviation are calculated and used to compare the characteristics of radio wave propagation to the various obstacles between transmitting and receiving antennas at the frequency. The results show that the transmitted signal strength by the steel door and copper plate are about 40dB lower than in free space, those by the rubber plate, glass and styroform are about 3dB lower than in free space. Also, the re(looted signal strengths at the 60 degree grazing angle show that in case by the partition is about 23dB lower, by the surface of a wall is about 6dB lower than by the copper plate. The presented results can be used for the design of 60 GHz picocell communication network that the reflected and transmitted waves affect to the service area.

  • In this paper, we propose a substrate integrated waveguide(SIW) power divider to yield excellent broadband isolation performance. In order to achieve high broadband isolation, a two stage Wilkinson power divider is employed in SIW. The measurement results show the insertion loss($S_{21}$, $S_{31}$ to be $4.0{\pm}0.5$ dB) and input return loss($S_{11}$ of 10 dB) from 13.12 GHz to 16.14 GHz. Moreover, the results show that the output return loss and isolation between output ports are larger than 10 dB between 10.37 GHz and 17.64 GHz.

  • This paper presents a design of low power CMOS LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) for 2.4 GHz ZigBee applications that is a promising international standard for short area wireless communications. The proposed circuit has been designed using TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process technology and two stage cascade topology by current reuse technique. Two stage cascade amplifiers use the same bias current in the current reused stage which leads to the reduction of the power dissipation. LNA design procedures and the simulation results using ADS(Advanced Design System) are presented in this paper. Simulation results show that the LNA has a extremely low power dissipation of 1.38mW with a supply voltage of 1.0V. This is the lowest value among LNAs ever reported. The LNA also has a maximum gain of 13.38dB, input return loss of -20.37dB, output return loss of -22.48dB and minimum noise figure of 1.13dB.

  • We investigate the effects of high input power on the performance of optical bistable symmetric self-electooptic effect devices (S-SEEDs) using extremely shallow quantum wells (ESQWs). In this study, we consider the four ESQWs SEEDs; anti-reflection (AR)-coated ESQWs S-SEED, back-to-back AR coated ESQWs S-SEED, asymmetric F뮤교-Perot (AFP) ESQWs S-SEED, and back-to-back AFP-ESQWs S-SEED. As the input power increases, device performances such as on/off contrast ratio, on/off reflectivity difference are seriously degraded because of ohmic heating and exciton saturation. On the other hand, switching speed of the device increases up to certain value and then begins to decrease. With reasonable optimization of the input power for the best switching speed operation of the devices in a cascading optical interconnection system, we simulate and analyze the system bit-rate of the various ESQWs S-SEEDs, for a mesa of $5{\times}5{\mu}m^2$ size, changing the namber of quantum wells for the external bias of 0 V and -5V.

  • This paper has suggested a technique for measuring VSWR at 1.8 GHz band for various modulated signals. By using directional coupler the power of incident and reflected wave is measured, and in order to minimize the size and cost of the measuring circuit, a SPDT(Single Pole Double Throw) switch is adopted to realize the circuit with just one detector and one A/D(Analog to Digital) converter. MCU(Micro Control Unit) is used to calculate the voltage reflection coefficient and VSWR, and the measured VSWR error has improved by approximately 0.2 with applying a simple bubble sorting algorithm to reduce the measurement error, the MCU process time and load.

  • In this paper, we propose a new near-field reader antenna for 900 MHz RFID. The proposed antenna consists the micro-strip antenna with the periodic structure. The overall dimension of the antenna is $313mm{\times}152mm{\times}14mm$. The antenna has the uniform E-field distribution in near field region and the heart-shaped radiation beam pattern (Peak gain=-2 dBi). The transmitted power range is from 17 dBm to 23 dBm. We focus on minimizing the detected error by suppressing the reflected power from the metal, which is attached to the surface by tag, and by reducing the transmitted power from tag.

  • In this paper, the solutions of TM (transverse magnetic) scattering problems by perfectly conducting strip grating on two dielectric layers are analyzed by applying the FGMM (Fourier Galerkin moment method) as a numerical method. For the TM scattering problem, the induced surface current density is expected to the very high value at both edges of the strip, then the induced surface current density on the strip is expanded in a series of the multiplication of the functions of appropriate edge boundary condition and the Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind. The numerical results are obtained for the magnitude of induced current density, the normalized reflected power and transmitted power. The numerical results using proposed functions were improved the convergence faster than existing exponential functions, and the numerical results shown the good agreement compared to those of the existing papers.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of the horn antenna for the high power transfertation system is stuided and several kinds of a horn antenna are compared and finally a conical hem antenna using multi-mode is proposed. In the high power system, the efficiency of power transfer is very important. Therefore the feeding hem of a reflector must have a circular symmetric radiation pattern. And the side lobe must be suppressed to reduce a spillover power loss and interference. By using multi-mode in a circular hem antenna, the whole length can be shorter and the radiation pattern can be adjusted according to the shape and direction of a reflector. This is confirmed by the experiments.
