Objectives: This paper examines how serious the appearance concerns of adolescents is in South Korean society by delving into the formation and changes of adolescents' appearance concerns. Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of the data of multi-year tracing surveys which the National Youth Policy Institute opened to the public. The repeated Measures ANOVA, the paired t-test, and a chi-squared test were applied against the data. Results: It was found that about one out of ten adolescents experienced concerns that began as early as the upper grades of elementary school, reached its peak in middle school, and decreased afterwards. On the other hand, some of them faced enduring appearance concerns and seemed to suffer from it. One interesting finding is that adolescents once relieved from the concerns were free from it permanently. We also found that there were considerable differences between male and female adolescents in terms of the level of concerns they experienced, their peak periods, and other characteristics. Conclusions: Appearance concerns changes dynamically according to development of adolescence. Appearance concerns was less prevalent among adolescents than predicted, and it seemed considerably fluid. Our study not only confirms but also challenges some important findings of previous studies.
In this study, we analyzed ridge-runnel structure and ripple marks by using Envisat ASAR, JERS-1 SAR images and in-situ data in Mongsanpo intertidal flat located in Taean-Gun, Korea. A group of light-and-dark lines parallel to the shoreline, alternating 3-5 times, were observed in the intertidal flat in Envisat ASAR images. The patterns are related to ridge-runnel structure in the intertidal flat exposed to air. Well-drained runnels, typically with ripple marks, showed strong backscattering while runnels submerged by surface water or ridges, typically smooth with no ripple, have weak backscattering coefficients in Envisat ASAR images. In JERS-1 SAR images, however, the backscattering was very low on the entire intertidal flat and no ridge-runnel structure could be observed. The wavelengths of ripple marks measured from in-situ observations have ranges from 4 to 10 cm that satisfies the Bragg scattering condition of the 1st-order in Envisat ASAR images operating in C-band, but not in JERS-1 SAR that used L-band. Through this study using SAR images, we could successfully analyze the sedimentary conditions of intertidal flats with ridge-runnel and ripple marks which are not easily observed by optical sensors. It is expected that the results of this study with SAR images will contribute to the sedimentary research over intertidal flats.
This paper adopts a distributive performance process model of in-work poverty based on labor markets, households, and welfare states and analyzes the 4-11 waves of the Korean Welfare Panel Study during 2008-15. Previous studies on in-work poverty have focused on the definitions and concepts of in-work poverty by analyzing employment and unemployment persistence and repetition dynamics, but rarely paid attention to institutional distributive performance. In this regard, this study preforms a stepwise analysis of labor markets, households, and welfare states as a process of income generation in labor markets, satisfaction of welfare needs and income pooling at households, and deduction of social security contribution and income tax as well as receipt of public transfer income at welfare states. Results of empirical analysis show that in-work poverty had been on increase during 2008-11, followed by a decrease between 2012-15. At labor market stages, full time status had the most prominent impact on in-work poverty process, while status by employment and contract type have generated a huge variation as well. At household stages, household work intensity and number of earners contributed to reduction of in-work poverty, but the relations did not seen to be straightforward. However, welfare state played little role in lifting employees out of in-work poverty. In terms of institutional distributive process, in-work poverty was prevalent in either household-welfare state stage or labor market-household-welfare stage. Non-vulnerable group in terms of in-risk poverty was around 80% of the sample during the period of analysis, the size of which has remained constant.

This study was conducted to investigate effects of 12 weeks of combined exercise training with blood flow restriction (BFR) on body composition (weight, %body fat, lean body mass, body mass index (BMI)) and cardiovascular responses (brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (ba PWV) and ankle-brachial index (ABI)) in elderly women. Participants (N = 43, Females) were randomly assigned into a combined exercise with BFR (n = 14, BFR), only combined exercise (n =14, EX) or non-exercise control group (n = 15, CON). Two-way repeated measures ANOVA with contrast testing was utilized for data analysis. Alpha was set at p < 0.05. Body composition (weight, %body fat, BMI) in BFR was significantly changed, and %body fat in EX was significantly decreased, but there was no change in the CON. In addition, the right and left ba PWV values in the BFR were significantly decreased, while only the left side ba PWV in EX was significantly decreased and there was no change in the CON. Moreover, the % change and effect size of most variables in the BFR were higher than the EX. Taken together, the results indicate that even though BFR and EX groups performed the same combined exercise training, BFR had additional stimulations of the sympathetic nerve system due to blood flow restriction. Thus, BFR training is more beneficial and has greater effects on body composition and cardiovascular responses in elderly females.
A Woolen carpet from the late Joseon Dynasty was unearthed in the process of repairing Seongjeonggak in Changdeokgung. Since relics are rarer than documentary records, the woolen carpet is highly valued as a relics. It is presumed to have been woven in the late 19th or early 20th century because there is a record of repairing Seongjeonggak in 1907. In the carpet, a pattern is made by inserting colored yarn dyed yellow and red onto a reddish-purple ground weave. The selvage of the woolen carpet used cotton thread, and jute is used for the warp and weft of the ground weave. The colored patterns is made of wool in the form of loop pile. Cut piles may appear occasionally when the colored yarn changes, but are almost invisible from the surface because they are pressed tightly with a shuttered weft. Making carpets with jute and wool is thought to be influenced by the Brussels carpets of the mid-18th century. Furthermore, the woolen carpet is torn and the pattern is completely unclear; however, it is understandable that the pattern is partially repeated. Microscopic and Fourier transform-Infrared spectrometer(FT-IR) analyses were performed for the above investigation. To identify the dyes used in relics, we compared them with natural dyed fabric samples based on chromaticity measurements and Ultraviolet/Visible spectrophotometer(UV-Vis) analysis. These analyses revealed that the woolen carpet's dyed green yarn did not use indigo, and reddish-purple ground weave is estimated to have used Caesalpinia sappan.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of applying whole body vibration exercise at 30 Hz on the thickness and mechanical properties of the erector spinae. The study population included 24 adults (11 male and 13 female) in the N region. The subjects were divided into two groups, a 30Hz whole body vibration exercise(WG, n=12) and an LSG(12 subjects). Changes in the thickness and mechanical properties of the erector spinae were analyzed before the exercises and after four and eight weeks of exercises using a two-way repeated analysis of variance with a statistical significance level of α=0.05. When there was an interaction between the groups and measurement times, post hoc analyses were conducted at a statistical significance level of α=0.01. The thickness, frequency, stiffness and strain of the erector spinae muscles were significantly different in each time period and in the interaction between time period and the group (P<0.05), and recovery was significantly different only in each time period (P<0.05). Thus, 30Hz whole body vibration exercise had a positive effect on the thickness and mechanical properties of the erector spinae. The results of this preliminary study suggest that whole body vibration exercise may find a place as a lumbar stabilization exercise in clinical practice in the future.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of maximum and endurance resistance exercises on total work, blood viscosity, and erythrocyte volume ratio. The study subjects were selected as 15 men in their twenties with 12 months or more of resistance exercise experience, and the bench press 1RM was measured before the experiment, and the experiment for each condition was cross-allocated at intervals of one week, and the maximum repetition was performed in 6 sets. As a result, the total amount of exercise showed that the muscular endurance strength was higher than that of the maximum muscular strength (p<.001), and the blood viscosity and erythrocyte volume ratio were higher after exercise than before (p<.01) regardless of the total exercise amount. In summary, it was found that blood viscosity was not affected by exercise intensity and amount of exercise, and increased with one-time resistance exercise. This is clinically significant in constructing a resistance exercise program, and it is considered to be a reference material in creating an exercise program for clinical patients related to vascular disease.

In this study, the optimal medium composition for enhancing protease production was established by the Bacillus strain isolated from Makgeolli, a traditional fermented food, using the response surface methodology. B. amyloliquefaciens SRCM115785 was selected as the protease producer by productivity analysis and identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Plackett-Burman design (PBD) was introduced to analyze the effect of each component on protease production among the 11 selected medium components. As a result, glucose, yeast extract, and beef extract were finally selected as factors for enhancing protease production. Central composite design (CCD) analysis was designed as a method to determine the optimal concentration of each component for protease production and the concentration of each medium composition for maximum protease production was predicted to glucose 6.75 g/l, yeast extract 12.42 g/l and beef extract 17.48 g/l. The suitability of the experimental model was proved using ANOVA analysis and as a result of quantitative analysis to prove this, the amount of increase was 230.47% compared to the LB medium used as a control. Through this study, the optimization of medium composition for enhancing protease production was established, and based on this, it is expected that it can be efficient use of protease as an industrial enzyme.

The results may be crucial to develop strategy in order to decrease the disease prevalence as well as increase the participants' overall quality of life. As a result, the Health Promotion Education Program for the auxiliary police was proved to be an effective intervention in order to improve the quality of life. Therefore, the program may be a useful intervention for the auxiliary police.
Modern people express their beauty through hair coloring, but hair can be damaged by repeated chemical treatments. In order to increase the durability of dyeing and minimize the hair damage, in this study, the acidic amino acids including aspartic acid (Asp) and glutamic acid (Glu) were used to post-treat hair during hair coloring. The post-treatment with 0.75% Asp and Glu solution was carried out at room temperature for 20 minutes after dyeing bleached hair with cherry red and blue silver colors. After repeated shampooing of 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 times, L*a*b* value of dyed hair was measured to confirm the dyeing durability, and the changes in tensile strength, porosity, and surface properties of the hair were also analyzed to determine the condition of the hair. In the case of cherry red and blue silver staining, the Asp and Glu experimental group showed higher color persistence than the control group, and the Asp and Glu experimental group showed higher tensile strength, lower porosity and smooth surface properties than the control group. In particular, the Asp test group showed superior color persistence and lower hair damage than the Glu test group. This study, therefore, if damaged in dyeing and bleaching in the field of hair after treatment with asp glu a combination of hair cosmetics in the development of basic data look forward to be.
