The current analytical techniques for R/C elements under severe dynamic repeated loads, like earth¬quake or impact, have two major problems; one is that the effects of strain rate are not considered and the other one is the current analytical model was developed based on flexural behavior only.
This study develops computer software that can idealize the flexural and shear behavior of R/C elements using several parameters and also can consider the effects of strain rate. The analytical results using the developed technique were compared with serveral experimental results and they were generally satisfied.

Compared to metal, CFRP has excellent mechanical characteristics in terms of intensity, hardness, and heat resistance as well as its light weight that it is used widely in various fields. Therefore, this material has been used recently in the aerospace field. On the other hand, the material has shortcomings in terms of its extreme vulnerability to damage occurring internally from an external impact. This study examined the intensity up to its destruction from repeated use with the internal impact of a CFRP laminated plate that had also been exposed to external impact obtain design data for the external plate of aircraft used in the aerospace field. For the experimental method, regarding the quasi-isotopic type CFRP specimen and orthotropic CFRP specimen that are produced with a different layer structure, steel spheres with a diameter of 5 mm were collided to observe the resulting impact damage. Through a 3-point flexural fatigue experiment, the progress of internal layer separation and impact damage was observed. Measurements of the flexural fatigue strength after the flexural fatigue experiment until internal damage occurs and the surface impacted by the steel spheres revealed the quasi-isotopic layer structure to have a higher intensity for both cases.

A collision-free trajectory planning algorithm using an iterative learning concept is proposed for dual robot arms in a 3-D common workspace to accurately follow their specified paths with constant velocities. Specifically, a collision-free trajectory minimizing the trajectory error is obtained first by employing the linear programming technique. Then the total operating time is iteratively adjusted based on the maximum trajectory error of the previous iteration so that the collision-free trajectory has no deviation from the specified path and also that the operating time is near-minimal. To show the validity of the proposed algorithm, a numerical example is presented based on two planar robots.

The cables in cable-stayed bridges are under high stress and are very sensitive to vibration due to their small section areas compared with other members. Therefore, it is reasonable to evaluate the cable impact factor by taking into account the dynamic effect due to moving-vehicle motion. In this study, the cable impact factors were evaluated via moving-vehicle-load analysis, considering the design parameters, i.e., vehicle weight, cable model, road surface roughness, vehicle speed, longitudinal distance between vehicles. For this purpose, two steel composite cable-stayed bridges with 230- and 540-m main spans were selected. The results of the analysis were then compared with those of the influence line method that is currently being used in design practice. The road surface roughness was randomly generated based on ISO 8608, and the convergence of impact factors according to the number of generated road surfaces was evaluated to improve the reliability of the results. A9-d.o.f. tractor-trailer vehicle was used, and the vehicle motion was derived from Lagrange's equation. 3D finite element models for the selected cable-stayed bridges were constructed with truss elements having equivalent moduli for the cables, and with beam elements for the girders and the pylons. The direct integration method was used for the analysis of the bridge-vehicle interaction, and the analysis was conducted iteratively until the displacement error rate of the bridge was within the specified tolerance. It was acknowledged that the influence line method, which cannot consider the dynamic effect due to moving-vehicle motion, could underestimate the impact factors of the end-cables at the side spans, unlike moving-vehicle-load analysis.

Textile composite materials have been widely applied in aerospace structures due to their various advantages such as high specific stiffnesses and strengths, better out-of-plane performances, impact and delamination resistances, and net shape fabrications. In this paper, a modified geometric model of repeating unit cell (RUC) is suggested based on the Naik's model for 2D plain weave textile composites. The RUC geometry is defined by various parameters. The proposed model considers another parameter which is a gap length between adjacent yarns. The effective stiffnesses are predicted by using the yarn slicing technique and stress averaging technique based on iso-strain assumption. And the stiffnesses of RUC are evaluated by adjusting the gap ratio and verified by comparing with Naik's model and experimental data for 2D plain weave composite specimens.
Blind algorithms designed to maximize the probability that constant modulus errors become zero carry out some summation operations for a set of constant modulus errors at an iteration time inducing heavy complexity. For the purpose of reducing this computational burden induced from the summation, a new approach to the estimation of the zero-error probability (ZEP) of constant modulus errors (CME) and its gradient is proposed in this paper. The ZEP of CME at the next iteration time is shown to be calculated recursively based on the currently calculated ZEP of CME. It also is shown that the gradient for the weight update of the algorithm can be obtained by differentiating the ZEP of CME estimated recursively. From the simulation results that the proposed estimation method of ZEP-CME and its gradient produces exactly the same estimation results with a significantly reduced computational complexity as the block-processing method does.
Recently, the vibration of underground structure due to high speed railway loads has been increased substantially as compared with middle and slow speed. The buried gas pipelines under continuous impact forces and repeated loading are more influenced by the vibrational loads than another pipelines. However, the static analysis was not enough to allow for the effect of vibrations because it uses impact factors for the design or analysis process. In this study, characteristics of Pipelines was quantitatively estimated through each conditions of soil covers and train speed, and the new vibration prediction is presented about the vibrational velocity.

When explosives explode in water, the effect of post-explosion gas after explosion should be considered, unlike explosion in the air. During explosion in water, the propagation velocity of the explosion pressure is faster than when the explosion occurs in the air. The generated gas is diffused and trapped in the form of bubbles by water before the energy is dissipated. At this time, the bubble expands and contracts, creating a shock wave. In order to investigate this series of phenomena, a cylinder type steel water tank capable of observing the interior was fabricated and explosion experiments were conducted. In this study, a small amount of shell-free pentolite was exploded in water. Experiments were performed to observe the behavior of the generated gas bubble as well as to measure the shock wave generated. We designed the experimental method of underwater explosion and examined the results.
