Influence of 'Sumgol' in Jeju on Ground Stability under Various Loading Conditions (다양한 하중 조건하에서 제주도의 특수한 지반 '숨골'을 고려한 지반의 안정성 검토)

  • Jeju island has a special ground layer called 'Sumgol' due to the geological characteristics. The terminology 'Sumgol' is generally defined as the rain fall flows through the Sumgol without blocking and smaller size than cave, which men cannot enter. This paper presents the influence of the Sumgol on ground stability under various loading conditions using numerical simulations when the airport is constructed. The results showed that the vertical settlements of each section are within the allowable settlement.

  • A new analytical inversion technique is developed to determine the shear wave velocity profiles of natural soils and pavement systems from the dispersion curves of Rayleigh waves. Haskell's theory on the dispersion of the surface waves in multi-layered elastic solids is utilized. A frequency-unlimited dispersion equation is developed by use of the delta matrix technique. Rigid halfspace is assumed at the depth of the one wavelength of Rayleigh waves. Computer program is coded and validity of the technique is verified through the numerical model tests.

Preservative Safety Analysis of the Fresh Apple Snails and their Processing Products (우렁이 생체 및 가공제품의 저장안정성 조사)

  • This study investigated the microbial safety of apple snails and intermediate-moisture-content apple snail products subjected to various treatments, according counts of total bacteria, Escherichia coli, mold and yeast during storage at 4C Heating of raw apple snails at 95C for 5 min increased the storage period in relation to total bacteria, E. coli, mold and yeast-cell growth. Addition of 10% NaCl and 50% vinegar increased the microbial safety of apple snails. Microorganisms were not detected for 14 weeks in vacuum-packaged intermediate-moisture-content apple snail products stored at either 4C or 30C. These results suggest that heat treatment of raw apple snails, soaking in 10% NaCl and 50% vinegar solutions, and vacuum-packaging increases the shelf-life and microbial safety of apple snail products.

  • There were the attempts to prevent the spread of harmful materials of the agri-food through the record tracking of the products with the bar code, the partial information tracking of the agri-food storage and the delivery vehicle, or the control of the temperature by intuition. However, there were many problems in the attempts because of the insufficient information, the information distortion and the independent information network of each distribution company. As a result, it is difficult to prevent the spread over the life-cycle of the agri-food using the attempts. To solve the problems, we propose the mechanism mainly to do context awareness, predict, and track the harmful materials of agri-food using big data processing.

Macro and Micro Nutrient Contents in Leaves of Greenhouse-grown Cucumber by Growth Stages (시설재배 오이의 생육시기별 엽 중 다량요소와 미량요소 함량)

  • In order to estimate the inorganic nutrient content in cucumber leaves at respective growth stages under greenhouse conditions, we investigated five cucumber farms practicing a forcing cultivation system with nine-month growth period and another five cucumber farms practicing a semiforcing cultivation system with six-month growth period. The cucumber yield in forcing and semiforcing cultivation systems amounted to 14.8 ton $10a^{-1}$ and 10.7 ton $10a^{-1}$, respectively. Soils between two different cultivation systems showed no significant differences in pH, organic matter contents and exchangeable cation contents during early growth stage, whereas EC, $NO_3$-N and available $P_2O_5$ contents were higher in soils of semiforcing cultivation systems. Suitable soil temperature was well provided by forcing cultivation. The highest NPK contents in leaves were observed in 60~80 days after planting for forcing systems and in 100 days after planting for semiforcing systems. Thereby forcing cultivation systems showed somewhat higher NPK contents. Ca and Mg contents in cucumber leaves did not significantly change during the growth period in forcing systems, while semiforcing systems showed the highest contents of Ca and Mg in 80~100 days after planting. Fe, Mn and Zn contents in leaves also did not significantly change during the growth period, whereas Mn contents were slightly higher in forcing systems due to lower soil pH. B contents in leaves were higher in semiforcing systems because of higher available B contents in soil.
