  • In this paper, yield stress, tangent modulus and failure strain were varied to ascertain the influence of impact response such as impact force histories and residual energy. And the buckling behavior of FML(Fiber Metal Laminates) were analyzed using numerical method. A number of analyses on FML and aluminum panel were conducted for shear and compression loading to compare the capability of stability. And to evaluate the static performance, static analysis has performed for box beam structure. Low-velocity impact analysis has performed on FML made of aluminum 2024 sheet and glass/epoxy prepreg layers. And the buckling and static performance of FML have been compared to aluminum using the analysis results. For the comparison of structural performance, similar analyses have been carried out on monolithic aluminum 2024 sheets of equivalent weight.

  • In this study, it is presented analysis results of bending problems in the anisotropic cantilever thick plates and the anisotropic laminated cantilever thin plates bending problems. Finite element method in this analysis was used. Both Kirchoff's assumptions and Mindlin assumptions are used as the basic governing equations of bending problems in the anisotropic laminated plates. The analysis results are compared between the anisotropic laminated cantilever thick plates and the anisotropic laminated cantilever thin plates for the variations of thickness-width ratios.

  • A novel process is newly developed for building RP(Rapid Prototyping) parts using a sheet lamination technique. The build process of existing sheet lamination type RP machines consists of the following steps : feeding, lamination and cutting. In this process, the laminated part of an object is often scratched by a cutter or damaged by a laser beam due to the cutting operation preceded by lamination, In addition, decubing of the unused portion from the laminated block is difficult. In the new process, cutting operation is performed before lamination. The cutting operation takes place while a paper sheet is firmly attached on the plate using electrostatic force. Then liquid glue is applied to the calculated region of the given contour for lamination. The process aims to manufacture a $2k RP machine, what we call the Freeform Mater I, that can use A4 or latter-size used papers. A prototype machine that demonstrates the design concept is built and further research issues are discussed.

  • In this paper, intermetallic/metal laminated composites have been successfully produced that utilizes SHS reactions between Ni and Al elemental metal foils. The reaction between Ni and Al started from the nucleation and growth of NiA1$_3$ and was followed by the diffusional growth of Ni$_2$A1$_3$ between Ni and NiA1$_3$. The SHS reaction was thermodynamically analyzed through the final volume fraction of the non-reacted Al related with the initial thickness ratio of Ni:Al and prior heat treatment. Thermally aging these 1aminates resulted in formation of a functionally gradient series of intermetallic phases. Microstructure showed that the intermetallic volume percent was 82, 59.5, 40% in the 1:1, 2:1, 4:1 thickness ratio specimen. Main phases of the intermetallic were NiAl and Ni$_3$Al having higher strength at room and high temperatures.

  • This paper is concerned with the development of stacked ceramic thin actuation layer IDEAL (InterDigitated Electrode Actuation Layer) using d$_{33}$ actuation mechanism of piezoelectric ceramic. Most of the thin piezoelectric actuators are operated with d$_{31}$ actuation mechanism. Many kinds of piezoelectric ceramic actuators are strived now to improve the actuation performance. One of efforts to improve performance of piezoceramic actuators is the research trying to develop an actuator using the piezoelectric coefficient d$_{33}$ . The piezoelectric coefficient d$_{33}$ is almost twice larger than piezoelectric coefficient d$_{31}$ . Therefore, the induced strain of PZT thin layer with d$_{33}$ 3 actuation mechanism is bigger than that with d$_{31}$ actuation mechanism. The AFC(MIT) and LaRC-MFC$^{TM}$ which is developed by a research team of NASA Langley Research Center used d$_{33}$ actuation mechanism with surface interdigitated electrode to enhance its actuation performance. But their actuation mechanism is not perfect d$_{33}$ actuation mechanism since the interdigitated electrodes are placed at the surface of the actuation layer. In this research, the stacked ceramic thin actuation layer with imbedded interdigitated electrode is designed and manufactured. The actuation strain of stacked ceramic thin actuation layer is measured and compared with the actuation strain of the LaRC-MFC$^{TM}$. The comparison shows that the developed stacked ceramic thin actuation layer can produce 15% more actuation strain than LaRC-MFC$^{TM}$.> TM/.

  • 소형 PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell)는 전기를 만들기 위해서 고순도의 수소를 필요로 한다.

  • A feasibility investigation on vibration-based nondestructive evaluation of thermal stress-induced micro-failure in the free edge region of thin composite laminates(1mm thick) has been carried out. The failure occurrence and damage zone, which were predicted by the three-dimensional finite-element thermal stress analysis, were observed using the ultrasonic C-scan and optical microscopy. Analysis of the vibration spectrum measured from the laminate beam specimens by the vibration sweep test exhibited that the obvious decrease in resonancy frequency and some considerable increase in damping factor were associated with the micro-failure formation. The vibration technique utilizing short beam and high resonant frequency was found to be very sensitive to the thermal stress-induced damage in the thin laminates.

  • FMLC(Fiber-Metal Laminate Composites) is a new structural material combining thin metal laminate with adhesive fiber prepreg, it nearly include all the advantage of metallic materials, for example: good plasticity, impact resistance, processibility, light weight and excellent fatigue properties. This research studied the optimum design of the FMLC subject to various loading conditions using genetic algorithm. The finite element method based on the shear deformation theory was used for the analysis of FMLC. Tasi-Hill failure criterion and Miser yield criterion were taken as fitness functions of the fiber prepreg and the metal laminate, respectively. The design variables were fiber orientation angles. In genetic algorithm, the tournament selection and the uniform crossover method were used. The elitist model was also used to be effective evolution strategy and the creeping random search method was adopted in order to approach a solution with high accuracy. Optimization results were given for various loading conditions and compared with CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic). The results show that the FMLC is more excellent than the CFRP in point and uniform loading conditions and it is more stable to unexpected loading because the deviation of failure index is smaller than that of CFRP.
