  • Fast pyrolysis of Quercus acutissima was carried out in a fluidized bed pyrolyser and then the physicochemical properities of obtained bio-oil were analyzed using GC/MS. The yields of bio-oil of Quercus acutissima and Larix leptolepis from a fluidized bed pyrolyzer were maximized at $350^{\circ}C\;and\;400^{\circ}C$, respectively. This is due to the difference or cellulose content between the two tree species. Above the optimum temperature, the yields of char and oil decreased as the reaction temperature increased, but the yield of gas-phase and water fraction increased. It is concluded that this phenomenon is occured by secondary pyrolysis in the free board. The feeding rate of the sample in a fluidized bed pyrolyser did not affect the yields and composition of products, because of a sufficient mixing between bed materials and sand.

  • Bio-oil has attracted considerable interest as one of the promising renewable energy resources because it can be used as a feedstock in conventional petroleum refineries for the production of high value chemicals or next-generation hydrocarbon fuels. Zeolites have been shown to effectively promote cracking reactions during pyrolysis resulting in highly deoxygenated and hydrocarbon-rich compounds and stable pyrolysis oil products. In this study, catalytic pyrolysis was applied to upgrade bio-oil from yellow poplar and then fuel characteristics of upgraded bio-oil was investigated. Yellow Poplar(500 g) which ground 0.3~1.4 mm was processed into bio-oil by catalytic pyrolysis for 1.64 seconds at $465^{\circ}C$ with Control, Blaccoal, Whitecoal, ZeoliteY and ZSM-5. Under the catalyst conditions, bio-oil productions decreased from 54.0%(Control) to 51.4 ~ 53.5%, except 56.2%(Blackcoal). HHV(High heating value) of upgraded bio-oil was more lower than crude bio-oil while the water content increased from 37.4% to 37.4 ~ 45.2%. But the other properties were improved significantly. Under the upgrading conditions, ash and TAN(Total Acid Number) is decrease and particularly important as transportation fuel, the viscosity of bio-oil decreased from 6,933 cP(Control) to 2,578 ~ 4,627 cP. In addition, ZeoliteY was most effective on producing aromatic hydrocarbons and decreasing of from the catalytic pyrolysis.

  • This study examined the effect of Jojoba oil on the protection of virgin black hair and hair damaged by bleaching. Both hair types were treated for 35 days with 100% Jojoba oil or one of two types of hair conditioner, one formulated with 3% of Jojoba oil and the other formulated without Jojoba oil. The effect of protection was examined in terms of the change in the color, tensile stress, weight, and amount of protein leak compared to untreated black hair or bleached hair. The composition of fatty acids in the Jojoba oil was analyzed using the Gas chromatography mass spectrometry. The differences among the three treatments were statistically tested by one-way analysis of variance test and the Duncan post-hoc test at α = .05. The main fatty acid contained in the Jojoba oil was 11-eicosenoic acid (75.14%). Based on the statistical test it was found that 100% Jojoba oil was the most effective in increasing the tensile stress of black hair and the weight of bleached hair after 35 days of treatment.

  • Pyrolysis is recently used as one of alternative methods of animal waste treatment. In this study bio-oil was produced at $550^{\circ}C$ in an auger reactor through pyrolysis process. Two pig waste mixtures were used, pig feces mixed with rice husks and pig feces mixed with sawdust. The main compositions of hemicellulose, lignin, cellulose, protein, and fat were analyzed chemically. Based on the main composition results obtained, the contents of holocellulose (the sum of hemicellulose and cellulose) and lignin had a significant positive effect on bio-oil production, and there was a significant negative effect of ash content on bio-oil yield. The interactions between the different feedstocks were evaluated, and it was concluded that the interaction between pig feces and rice husks was minimal, whereas the interaction between pig feces and sawdust was significant.

  • The historical consumption of oil dispersant was recorded during the protection plans after huge oil spill occurred in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. As a well-known oil dispersant, Corexit 9500 was used and continuously blamed for the negative effects on environmental ecology. Nevertheless, US EPA still recognizes Corexit 9500 as a future oil dispersant that might be possibly sprayed again to oil slick. In order to develop alternative oil dispersants, it is important to impel the convergency works mainly from microbiologist, ecologist, environmentalist, chemist, and chemical engineer. In this paper, the major components of Corexit 9500 were introduced by chemical structures and physical properties. Presented were also the biodegradable process of dispersed oils and the possible candidates of biosurfactants.

  • Hydrogen has been gaining a lot of attention as a possible clean energy source that can aid in reaching carbon neutrality. Currently, hydrogen production has relied on the steam reforming of fossil fuels. However, due to the carbon dioxide emissions caused by this process, hydrogen production based on the steam reforming of bio-oil derived from biomass has been proposed as an alternative approach. In order to use this alternative approach efficiently, one of the key issues that must be overcome is that the complexity of bio-oil, which has a large molecular weight and diverse functional groups of hydrocarbons, promotes the catalytic deactivation of nickel-based catalysts. In this review, research efforts to improve nickel-based catalysts for the steam reforming of bio-oil have been discussed in terms of the active phase, support, and promoters. The active phases are involved in activating C-C and C-H bonds of high-molecular-weight hydrocarbons, and noble and transition metals can be utilized. In terms of the support and promoters, the catalytic deactivation of Ni-based catalysts can be inhibited by utilizing reactive lattice oxygen for support or by suppressing the acidity. The development of active and stable Ni-based reforming catalysts plays a critical role in clean hydrogen production based on bio-oils.

  • Vegetable oils, such as palm oil and cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), are used as major raw materials for bio-diesel in transportation and bio-heavy oil in power generation in South Korea. However, due to the high unsaturation degree caused by hydrocarbon double bonds and a high content of oxygen originating from the presence of carboxylic acid, the range of applications as fuel oil is limited. In this study, hydrotreating to saturate unsaturated hydrocarbons and remove oxygen in mixed bio-oil containing 1/1 v/v% palm oil and CNSL on monometallic catalysts (Ni and Cu) and bimetallic catalysts (Ni-Zn, Ni-Fe, Ni-Cu Ni-Co, Ni-Pd, and Ni-Pt) was perform under mild conditions (T = 250 ~ 400 ℃, P = 5 ~ 80 bar and LHSV = 1 h-1). The addition of noble metals and transition metals to Ni showed synergistic effects to improve both hydrogenation (HYD) and hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) activities. The most promising catalyst was Ni-Cu/-Al2O3, and in the wide range of the Ni/Cu atomic ratio of 9/1~1/4, the conversion for HYD and HDO reactions of the catalysts were 90-93% and 95-99%, respectively. The tendency to exhibit almost constant reaction activity in these catalysts of different Ni/Cu atomic ratios implies a typical structure-insensitive reaction. The refined bio-oil produced by hydrotreating (HDY and HDO) had significantly lower iodine value, acid value, and kinetic viscosity than the raw bio-oil and the higher heating value (HHV) was increased by about 10%.

  • Pyrolytic lignin was obtained from biooil produced with yellow poplar wood. Fast pyrolysis was performed under various temperature ranges and residence times using fluidized bed type reactor. Several analytical methods were adopted to characterize the structure of pyrolytic lignin as well as the effect of pyrolysis temperature and residence time on the modification of the lignin. The yield of pyrolytic lignin increased as increasing pyrolysis temperature and decreasing residence time of pyrolysis products. The molecular weight of pyrolytic lignin determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) was approximately 1,200 mol/g, which was approximately a tenth of milled wood lignin (MWL) purified from the same woody biomass. Based on analytical data, demethoxylation and side chain cleavage reaction were dominantly occurred during fast pyrolysis.

  • 모든 가정과 심지어 회사, 공장 등 어느 곳에서든 하수관은 꼭 필요하다. 이런 다양한 환경에서 발생하는 하수를 옮겨 주는 것이 바로 하수관이기 때문이다. 이처럼 꼭 필요한 하수관은 일반적으로 PE(Polyethylene Solid Sewer Pipe) 하수관이 사용되고 있다.
