  • Recently, floor impact sound has become a serious social problem in Korea. There is an increasing need to improve floor impact sound performance using floor covering installed on the floor of apartment houses. KS F ISO 717-2 and KS F 2863 require measurement under conditions in which the resilient material is not installed. But most apartment houses in Korea install resilient materials to reduce floor imapct sound. The performance evaluation method of floor covering should provide reduced performance for use by residents of apartment houses with resilient materials. Therefore, this paper proposes a reduction performance evaluation under the conditions in which a resilient material is installed to verify the performance of floor covering.

  • In order to solve the floor impact sound problem in the upper and lower floors, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs also notifies the physical properties of the resilient material affecting the floor impact sound level. The dynamic modulus of elasticity and the loss factor before and after heating are most related to the floor impact noise, especially for the cushioning material. Therefore, in this study, the rate of change with respect to the dynamic modulus and loss factor with temperature change was examined by increasing $10^{\circ}C$ by $10^{\circ}C$ from the temperature condition of $70^{\circ}C$ specified in the standard. The dynamic modulus of elasticity and the loss modulus were measured by using the pulse excitation method for eight kinds of samples. The calculation method was calculated by the time series analysis method using the damped vibration waveform.

  • In this study, long-term compression displacement of damping materials used to reduce floor impact noise and compressive load that crack begins to happen in Ondol layers including the material were measured as basic research to make guide line for right choice of damping material considering structural stability of Ondol layer. From the result, it was found that compression displacement by elapsed time as well as early displacement of damping material when load is applied on Ondol layer are should be included in the guide line for the choice of damping materials. And no problem is expected to be in structural stability of Ondol layer in case choose a damping material that compression displacement at three months later from inflict load is within 10% than initial thickness.

  • Recently, for the purpose of improving the isolation performance of impact noise, many resilient materials have been installed in a residential building. As one of the reduction method for improving the performance of light-weight impact noise, this study is focused on the load condition of floating layer over resilient material. We studied the correlation between the mass or load of the floating layer and the reduction of light-weight impact noise by experiments in reverberation chamber for testing the impact noise. The results show that the reduction of impact noise is improved by increasing the mass per unit area of floating layer until about $140kg/m^2$. But the reduction is not obvious by adding extra mass on the floating layer.

  • This paper reports the test results of the floating floor system used to reduce the floor noise of apartment buildings. Recently, many soft resilient materials placing between the reinforced concrete slab and finishing mortar are used. The resilient material should not only reduce the floor impact sound vibration from the floor but also support the load on the floor. Thus, even if soft resilient materials satisfy the maximum limitation of light-weight impact sound and heavy-weight impact sound, these materials may not support the load on the floor. The experimental program involved conducting sixteen sound insulation floating floor specimens. Three main parameters were considered in the experimental investigation: resilient materials, loading location, and layers of floor. Experimental results indicated that the stiffness of resilient material significantly influenced on the structural behavior of floating floor system. In addition, the deflection of the floating concrete floor loaded at the side or coner of the specimen was greater than that of the floor loaded at the center of the specimen. However, the aerated concrete did not effect on the cracking strength of floating floor system.

  • The present study aims to investigate the influence of the water to binder ratio of finishing mortar on the floor impact sound of apartments. For this, same resilient materials Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) with constant dynamic stiffness and different mortar layers with 52 %, 66 % and 72 % water to binder ratio respectively were used to build floating floor structures on which floor impact sounds were measured in standard testing facilities. As a result, it was found that light-weight floor impact sound was transmitted well when the water to binder ratio was 52% due to the high density. In case of heavy-weight floor impact sounds, since water to binder ratio of finishing mortar becomes higher as the weight of upper layer of resilient material lighter, it was shown that the natural frequency of floating floor structure moves to 63 Hz bandwidth which eventually cause a higher sound pressure level of floor impact sound. Thus, effect of water to binder ratio of mortar on the heavy-weight floor impact sounds was investigated.

  • The cover liners at municipal and hazardous waste landfill is not emphasized as much as the bottom liners. However, one of the most effective reason of landfill destroy is the cover liner failure. The cover system at municipal and hazardous waste landfill, 1 perform the following functions, at minimum: promote surface runoff, impede infiltration, protect settlement in the landfill, and provide a buffer from surface exposure of the waste. This research was to expand the existing knowledge base of landfill cover liner behavior during period of freeze/thaw Also, the great Lysimeter was built in the laboratory to provide as much as same condition with the field and three designs were simulated by actual cover materials. The result of simulation indicated the clay was effected by freezing/thawing. The degradation of cover liners in the frost penetration affects the physical, engineering properties of clay. these factors may consider to design and construct of the landfill. This paper provides the description of testing cover liners, experimental results and a discussion of the results of the simulation.
