This study is focused on the gifted education program, "EEE" of Columbia Public Schools in Missouri. This program is recommended to follow NAGC Pre-K-Grade 12 Gifted programming standards(NAGC, 2010) and Missouri school laws(MDESE, 2012b), but is allowed to run autonomically without any support in a federal or state level. The characteristics of EEE are as follows: ${\cdot}$ emphasizing not only on the cognitive development but also on the social and affective/emotional development of the gifted students ${\cdot}$ encouraging each student's own interest by allowing him/her to select his/her major and minor ${\cdot}$ the variety of classes ${\cdot}$ the call-up class - discriminating from regular classes ${\cdot}$ the interdisciplinary approach - connecting many subjects around the main idea ${\cdot}$ the activity-based learning such as hands-on activities, projects, and simple experiments ${\cdot}$ using the individual activity as well as pair or group activity In special, this paper also contains an example of program about mathematics and suggests some implications for gifted education programs in Korea.

This paper analyzed the impact of school library programs on student achievement in the United States focusing on the following five studies: the Colorado Study I(l993), II(2000), the Texas Study(2001), the Missouri Study(2003), and the Illinois Study(2005). All five studies, which used correlation analysis, factor analysis, and multiple regression showed a positive and statistically significant relationship between school library programs and student achievement: That is when school libraries have higher levels of professional and. total staffing, larger collections of print and electronic resources, and more funding, students tend to earn higher scores on state reading tests. This paper also investigated the NCLB Act in relation to enhancing children's literacy and school library reading programs.

This study analyzed universities's entrepreneurship education curriculum and variety programs through visiting to five entrepreneurship centers. Through these analyzes, the study presents a basic frame work for prosperous entrepreneurship education in Korea. We have selected for visiting research universities in the middle east of the United states; University of Iowa, University of Missouri(Kansas City), Saint Louis University, University of Louisville and George Washington University. We visited entrepreneurship center of each university in order to have in-depth interview with professor who is responsible for building entrepreneurship curriculum and administrative director of entrepreneurial programs so that we research how university progresses entrepreneurship education at undergraduate level. The study, at the time of 61 universities selected for LINC project by the Korea Ministry of Education who expects Industrial-Academia cooperative effects just installed each entrepreneurship center, analyzed case study of operational practice and entrepreneurship education curriculum for the effective operation of entrepreneurship centers in universities. We believe that the study will be able to provide a richer and more accurate information and ideas since the all the analysis is based on the firsthand interview by visiting.

As inaccurate traffic volume prediction may result in inadequate transportation planning and design, traffic volume prediction based on traffic volume data is very important in spatial decision making processes such as transportation planning and operation. In order to improve the accuracy of traffic volume prediction, recent studies are using the geostatistical approach called kriging and according to their reports, the method shows high predictability compared to conventional methods. Thus, this study estimated traffic volume data for St. Louis in the State of Missouri, USA using the kriging method, and tested its accuracy by comparing the estimates with actual measurements. In addition, we suggested a new method for enhancing the accuracy of prediction by the kriging method. In the new method, we estimated traffic volume data: first, by applying anisotropy, which is a characteristic of traffic volume data appearing in determining variogram factors; and second, by performing co-kriging analysis using interstate highway, which is in a high spatial correlation with traffic volume data, as a secondary variable. According to the results of the analysis, the analysis applying anisotropy showed higher accuracy than the kriging method, and co-kriging performed on the application of anisotropy produced the most accurate estimates.

Existing traffic safety studies have focused on identifying the relationship among roadway crashes, highway design and incremental weather condition such as rainy/ice weather. However, it is hard to find researches that studied the effect of sun glare on traffic safety although there are abundant evidences demonstrating that fatal traffic crashes are attributed to the sun glare. Affecting drivers'vision particularly during the morning or the evening time when the sun positions close to the horizon, sun glare directly deteriorate drivers'judgmental capability. In this paper, we numerically analyze the effect of sun glare on the drivers'vision in time and space domains. Applied to the roadways around St Louis area in the United States, the GIS based simulation analysis identifies the time of day in a year and the segments of highways that are potentially influenced by the sun glare. This study evidentially confirms the fact that roadway bounded for West and East directions have longer time influenced by sun glare particularly during Spring and Fall season than other roadways. The computational result provides risky time periods of day at intersections or pedestrian crossings where the sun glare potentially endangers traffic safety, which be utilized to reduce the crashes due to the sun glare.
The purpose of the present study is an attempt to investigate the effect of intraventricular taurine, which is a naturally occuring amino acid containing sulfur and has inhibitory action in brain, on heart rate and blood pressure in the urethane anesthetized rabbits and also to elucidate the mechanism of its cardiovascular actions. Taurine $(0.15{\sim}1.5\;mg)$ injected into the lateral ventricle of anesthetized normontensive rabbits produced a dose-related fall in arterial blood pressure and heart rate, which were marked and long-lasting along with considerable respiratory depression. However, the intravenous administration of taurine at the same dose with intraventricular injection did not induce any changes in blood pressure as well as heart rate. Depressor responses induced by taurine were inhibited significantly by pretreatment with chlorisondamine, clonidine, strychnine and bicuculline but not by atropine, vagotomy, propranolol and metoclopramide. Moreover, taurine did not affect the pressor responses of norepinephrine. Taurine-induced bradycardic effects were blocked clearly by pretreatment with chlorisondamine, propranolol, clonidine, strychnine and bicuculline, while they were not influenced by atropine, vagotomy and metoclopramide. These experimental results suggest that intraventricular taurine causes long-lasting hypotensive and bradycardic actions, and that these cardiovascular effects may be exerted through taurinergic (glycinergic) and GABAergic receptors which are associated with catecholaminergic neurons in brain.

This study examined the structural behaviors of foam insulated concrete sandwich panels subjected to uniform pressure. Finite element models were used to simulate the detailed shear resistance of connectors and the nonlinear behaviors of concrete, foam and rebar components. The models were then validated using data from static tests performed at the University of Missouri. Both composite and non-composite action had a significant effect on the response of the foam insulated concrete sandwich panels, indicating that the simulated shear tie resistance should indeed be incorporated in numerical analyses. The modeling approach used here conveniently simulated the structural behaviors during all loading stages (elastic, yielding, ultimate and post-failure) and was compatible with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Code and existing design practices. The results of this study will therefore provide useful guidelines for the analysis and design of foam insulated sandwich panels under both static and dynamic loadings.
Inland wetlands in the Republic of Korea provide key breeding and wintering habitats, while coastal wetlands provide nutrient-rich habitats for stopover sites for East Asia/Australasia Flyway(EAAF) migrants. However, since the 1960's, Korea has reclaimed these coastal wetlands gradually for agriculture and urban expansion. The habitat loss has rippled across global populations of migrant shorebirds in EAAF. To protect a similar loss, the United States, specifically Missouri, developed the moist-soil management technique. Wetland impoundments are constructed from levees with water-flow control gates with specific soils, topography, available water sources, and target goals. The impoundments are subjected to a combination of carefully timed and regulated flooding and drawdown regimes with occasional soil disturbance. This serves a dual purpose of removing undesirable vegetation, while maximizing habitat and forage for wildlife. Flooding and drawdown schedules must be dynamic with constantly shifting climate conditions. Korea's latitude ($N33^{\circ}25^{\prime}{\sim}N38^{\circ}37^{\prime}$) is comparable to Missouri ($N36^{\circ}69^{\prime}{\sim}N40^{\circ}41^{\prime}$); as such, moist-soil management could prove to be an effective wetland restoration technique for Korea. In order to meet specific conservation goals (i.e. shorebird staging site restoration), it is necessary to test the proposed methodology on a site that can meet the required specifications for moist-soil management. Moist-soil management has the potential to not only create key habitat for endangered wildlife, but also provide valuable ecosystem services, including water filtration.
Salicylic acid(SA) is a phytohormone that is related to plant defense mechanism. The SA accumulation is triggered by abiotic and biotic stresses. SA acts as a signal molecular compound mediating systemic acquired resistance and hypersensitive response in plant. Although the role of SA has been studied extensively, an understanding of the SA regulatory mechanism is still lacking in plants. In order to comprehend SA regulatory mechanism, we have been transformed with a SID2 promoter:GUS::LUC fusion construct into siz1-2 mutant and wild plant(Col-0). SIZ1 encodes SUMO E3 ligase and negatively regulates SA accumulation in plants. SID2(SALICYLIC ACID INDUCTION DEFICIENT2) is a crucial enzyme of SA biosynthesis. The Arabidopsis SID2 gene encodes isochorismate synthase(ICS) that controls SA level by conversion of chorismate to isochorismate. We compared the regulation of SID2 in wild-type and siz1-2 transgenic plants that express SID2 promoter:GUS::LUC constructs respectively. The expressions of $\beta$-GLUCURONIDASE and LUCIFERASE were higher in siz 1-2 transgenic plant without any stress treatment. SID2 promoter:GUS::LUC/siz1-2 transgenic plant will be used as a starting material for isolation of siz1-2 suppressor mutants and genes involved in SA-mediated stress signaling pathway.
