  • In this study, we apply the facial Facial Action Coding System for coding the muscular system anatomical approach facial expressions to be displayed in response to a change in sensitivity. To verify by applying the virtual character the Duchenne smile to the original. I extracted the Duchenne smile by inducing experiment of emotion (man 2, woman 2) and the movie theater department students trained for the experiment. Based on the expression that has been extracted, I collect the data of the facial muscles. Calculates the frequency of expression of the face and other parts of the body muscles around the mouth and lips, to be applied to the virtual character of the data. Orbicularis muscle to contract end of lips due to shrinkage of the Zygomatic Major is a upward movement, cheek goes up, the movement of the muscles, facial expressions appear the outer eyelid under the eye goes up with a look of smile. Muscle movement of large muscle and surrounding Zygomatic Major is observed together (AU9) muscles around the nose and (AU25, AU26, AU27) muscles around the mouth associated with openness. Duchen smile occurred in the form of Orbicularis Oculi and Zygomatic Major moves at the same time. Based on this, by separating the orbicularis muscle that is displayed in the form of laughter and sympathy to emotional feelings and viable large muscle by the will of the person, by applying to the character of the virtual, and expression of human I try to examine expression of the virtual character's ability to distinguish.

  • This study examined the effects of emotion inducing contexts on types of infants smiling. Facial expressions of forty-five 11-to 15-month-old infants were videotaped in an experimental lab with positive and negative emotional contests. Infants' smiling was identified as the Duchenne smile or non-Duchenne smile based on FACS(Facial Action Coding System, Ekman & Friesen, 1978). Duration of smiling types was analyzed. Overall, infants showed more smiling in the positive than in the negative emotional context. Occurrence of Duchenne smiling was more likely in the positive than in the negative context and in the peek-a-boo than in the melody toy condition within the same positive context. Non-Duchenne smiling did not differ by context.

  • This paper proposes method for determining exterior orientation parameters (EOPs) from the RPC mathematical camera model of the satellite image. SPOT satellite stereo pair is pre-tested using the proposed method. As results that, geopositioning errors are similar with those of the original EOPs. Differences between EOPs determined from the RPC and original EOPs were small. IKONOS Geo-level stereo pair is tested by the proposed method. Results of this method are compared with those of the RPC block adjustment method which have been verified in reported studies. Consequently, the proposed method showed accuracy similar to the RPC block adjustment method. The digital elevation models (DEMs) of sample area acquired by the two method almost did not have a difference.

  • This study presents a novel algorithm for determining the P-wave arrival time using amoving window function to improve source localization in low-SNR (signal-to-noise ratio)acoustic emissions. The proposed algorithm was applied to low-SNR signals to verify the accuracy of measurements against existing algorithms. When other algorithms were applied, the test results revealed that SNR decreased and accuracy was reduced, especially where SNR wasless than 2.14. The proposed algorithm using amoving window function considers the frequency characteristic and signal amplitude simultaneously, and produced reliable results where SNR was 2.14.

  • A smiling face usually has a positive effect on interpersonal relationships by delivering a warm impression. However, the stereotype content model and compensation effect between warmth and competence suggested that warmth perceptions caused by a smiling face could influence competence perceptions negatively. This study examined the negative impact of the advertising endorser's smile on purchase intention in an expensive product category by adopting the self-construal level. The study results showed that consumers with independent-self construal (vs. interdependent self-construal) showed a lower purchase intention when exposed to an ad containing an endorser's smile. In comparison, consumers with interdependent-self construal (vs. independent self-construal) showed a lower purchase intention when exposed to an ad without an endorser's smile. Thus, this study demonstrated a moderating role of self-construal in the relationship between advertising endorser's smile and purchase intention. These findings provide valuable theoretical and practical implications for effective advertising strategies in the expensive product category.

  • This study dissected and three-dimensionally (3D) scanned the facial muscles of Korean adult cadavers, created a three-dimensional model with realistic facial muscle shapes, and reproduced facial expressions to provide educational materials to allow the 3D observation of the complex movements of cadaver facial muscles. Using the cadavers' anatomical photo data, 3D modeling of facial muscles was performed. We produced models describing four different expressions, namely sad, happy, surprised, and angry. We confirmed the complex action of the 3D cadaver facial muscles when making various facial expressions. Although the results of this study cannot confirm the individual functions of facial muscles quantitatively, we were able to observe the realistic shape of the cadavers' facial muscles, and produce models that would show different expressions depending on the actions performed. The data from this study may be used as educational materials when studying the anatomy of facial muscles.

  • This study is intended to find out pre-service teachers' perceptions of effective teaching behaviors. 89 pre-service teachers observed teaching demonstrations of each other and rated the degree of importance of teaching behaviors and their own performance level. It was found that Class Operations received the highest score in both the importance and performance levels, followed by Lesson Organizations and Verbal Expressions. However, they considered Gesture and Clothing as well as Facial Expressions and Gaze less important. The results of t-tests showed that the differences between the importance and performance levels for all five areas were statistically significant. The results of importance-performance analysis indicated that Verbal Expressions, Eye Contacts, Time Control, and Emphasis on Important Contents are the factors which need to be improved for effective teaching.

  • Studies have found that people with higher social status pay little attention to other people's emotions and facial expressions. However, only a few studies have made similar observations on adolescents with high cyberspace social status. Therefore, this study sought to identify how adolescents with different online game character social statuses interpreted the smile emoticons in negative and positive situations, that is, did they perceive the emoticon to be positive (smile, encouragement, and consolation) or negative (derision, ridicule, and sarcasm). In Experiment 1, the participants were separated into three groups; those who had a lower than global average online game character status, those who had the same as the global average, and those who had higher than the global average. The participants were then asked to judge the meaning of the smile emoticon received in various positive or negative situations. In Experiment 2, the game character levels of the participants were set to be either higher or lower than the others' characters, and they were again asked to judge the meaning of the smile emoticon received in the positive or negative situations. In Experiment 3, the participants were separated into four groups; lower level than the average game character status (no information on the level of acquaintance's game character), lower than the average but higher than the character of the other, higher than the average status (no information on the other's character level), and higher than the average but lower than the character of the other, and asked to judge the meaning of the smile emoticon in positive or negative situations. It was found that when participants had a lower-level character compared to the average, had a lower-level character than the other, and had higher than the average but lower than the other's character, they interpreted the smile emoticon as derision, ridicule, or sarcasm. However, participants with higher level characters, higher than that of the other, and lower than the average but higher than the other interpreted the emoticon as a smile or consolation. This study was significant because it demonstrated the impact of an adolescent's social cyberspace status on their online communication.
