An Study of Operational Strategy for Special Libraries on Social Network Service (SNS) (전문도서관의 소셜네트워크서비스 운영방안 연구 - 해양과학도서관 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study proposes a customized SNS operational strategy for special libraries based on a case study on the Ocean Science Library (OSL) of South Korea. The study conducted an in-depth analysis on an organizational structure, manpower, contents, and promotion. The outcome of SNS operational strategy deducted from this study can be categorized into several items, including: (1) a selection of an appropriate SNS channel, which meets the objective of the operation; (2) a formal division of works for SNS operation; (3) a designation of full-time managers and an establishment of a task force team; (4) a specialization of contents according to specific subjects; (5) on/off-line promotions focused on events, which encourage participations; (6) an improvement of contents through regular log analyses; and (7) a promotion of library website access through SNS, and so on. This research also suggested the strategies for the development of SNS operation: strengthening of communication and cooperation among librarians; distribution of academic and research outcomes of the umbrella organization; enhancement of a role as a communication channel between librarians and users, and carry out a role as a 'social curator.'

Instagram User's Contingent Self-Esteem and Depression: A Mediating Role of Upward Social Comparison (인스타그램 이용자의 조건부 자아존중감이 우울 경험에 미치는 영향: 인스타그램 내 상향 비교의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Contingent self-esteem can be maintained by meeting the standards of social or introjected values. This study investigated whether social media-related contingent self-esteem was associated with depression in Instagram users; in a sample of 319 Instagram users, we examined the effect of contingent self-esteem on depression and the mediating effect of upward social comparison on this theorized relationship. The study findings indicated that higher contingent self-esteem predicted higher levels of depression for a week in Instagram users, which could be explained by the upward social comparisons made on this application, and showed that Instagram users with higher contingent self-esteem tended to compare themselves with other users they considered superior, thereby increasing their depression. This study provided evidence for the mechanism underlying the association between using social media and psychological well-being and indicated the vulnerability of contingent self-esteem within the social media context. Other implications and future research directions were also discussed.

  • This paper investigats the state of the art of the school library media specialist(SLMS)'s certification in the United States. The content includes development of the SLMS certification, certification requirements, titles, preparatory education programs especially accredited by ALA and NCATE, personnel standards and regulations of states. The basic certification requirements are teacher certification and/or MLIS(MLS), but varying from state to state. Personnel standards are regulated by the Education Department of states, otherwise regional associations of colleges and schools. Nineteen states have the standards and three regional associations among six have very specified ones. The paper also analyzes NBPTS for Library Media and discussions on '65% Solution' which is an education reform movement affecting school library seriously.

Influence of Gaming Display and Wearing Glasses on Perceived Characteristics, Presence, and Fatigue (게임 디스플레이 종류와 안경착용 여부에 따른 영상의 인지된 특성, 프레즌스 그리고 피로도의 차이)

  • 3D images and videos are required viewers to wear 3D glasses. According to the data, about half of Korean people wear glasses or contact lens and this implies 3D video viewers may have a trouble due to putting a pair of 3D glasses atop their glasses. The purpose of this study is to examine gamers' perceived characteristics, presence, and fatigue according to video gaming display (2D vs. 3D) and glasses whether wearing or not. The results show that the interaction effect of the display and wearing glasses was statistically significant in the perceived presence, and the main effect of the display was statistically significant in the perceived characteristics and fatigue.

Video Content-Based Bit Rate Estimation (비디오 콘텐츠 기반 비트율 예측)

  • In this paper, we present a model-based video bit rate estimation scheme for reducing the bit rate while maintaining a subjective quality in many video streaming services limited by network bandwidth, such as IPTV services. First, we extract major parameters which serve as an indirect measurement of frame's bits. Using those parameters, the proposed bit rate estimation scheme can extract candidate frames. Finally, the bit rate of each segment is estimated by statistical analysis and a mathematical model based on a given target quality. In experimental results, we show that the proposed scheme can reduce the bit rate on average by 43% in low-complexity video while maintaining the subjective quality. To find the appropriate bit rate based on video contents, the proposed schemes can estimate the bit rate with neither the repeated full encoding nor subjective quality test. On average, the bit rate can be automatically estimated by encoding the candidate frames of 4%.

The importance of interface design and its applications within industrial design has been stressed in the recent years, However researches on practical process in interface design developments have been rarely established. This paper aims to develop the interaction design process for the useful user-interface design by theoretical study and actual analysis of user-interface design.

Influence of Depth Differences by Setting 3D Stereoscopic Convergence Point on Presence, Display Perception, and Negative Experiences (스테레오 영상의 깊이감에 따른 프레즌스, 지각된 특성, 부정적 경험의 차이)

  • The goal of 3D stereoscopy is not only to maximize positive experiences (such as sense of realism) by adding depth information to 2D video but to also minimize negative experiences (such as fatigue). This study examines the impact of different depth levels induced by adjusting 3D camera convergences on positive and negative experiences and finds an optimal parameter for viewers. The results show that there are significant differences among depth levels on spatial involvement, realistic immersion, presence, depth perception, screen transmission, materiality, shape perception, spatial extension and display perception. There are also significant differences for fatigue and unnaturalness. This study suggests that reducing the camera convergence angle of an object by $0.17^{\circ}$ behind the object is the optimal parameter in a 3D stereoscopic setting.

  • The recent emergence of diverse platform-based media devices such as smart phones and iPads has aroused interest of consumers all across the world. This interest has led to digitalization of paper books and a steep growth in the digital publishing industry at home and abroad. However, advent of various devices and content has caused the issue of compatibility and produced needs and demand for standardization to exchange and share content related to digital publication. Through collection of opinions of 16 stakeholders from the industrial, academic, research, and public sectors, this study aims to examine predictable future changes about content and its distribution, devices, standardization, technical protective measures, and obstacles in future digital publishing and eventually to draw out areas and elements for future standards development.

  • Even well trained personnel may fall victim to panic, and a wrong assessment of the situation can turn a small accident into a huge disaster. At the disaster site, the event is commonly broadcasted in real time and is unfiltered. Thus, the commander of the site must be able to accurately assess the scene while not missing out on key considerations. Despite the necessity of good situational assessment, there is barely any research on this topic. This study utilizes METT-TC(Mission, Enemy, Troops, Terrain and weather, Time available, and Civil considerations) which is used by militaries to assess combat situations, and proposes MORT-TAC(Mission, Object, Resources available, Terrain and weather, Time available, Ability, and Civil considerations) as factors to consider in effectively controlling the disaster site. The standard model is used for assessing disaster scenes by applying the Delphi analytical method on each sub-factor of MORT-TAC.

  • 최근 인터넷의 보급과 함께 고화질 및 양방향 TV, VOD 방송, 화상 전화 등의 멀티미디어 시대가 열리면서 초고속 통신 시스템에 대한 관심이 증가되고 있다. 특히 화상이나 동영상 같은 대량의 정보가 졸은 품질 및 빠른 속도로 전달될 수 있는 통신 시스템의 필요성이 대두됨에 따라 가장 효율적인 고속 전송 수단으로 광통신이 이용되고 있으며 그에 따른 광통신 능 수동 소자 개발에 관한 연구도 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 광통신 소자 중 원하는 빛을 선택적으로 투과하고 반사할 수 있는 flat-band pass(FP) filter의 역할이 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 IR 영역에서 투과성이 우수한 칼코게나이드 물질을 이용해 l 차원 광자결정구조의 FP-filter를 설계, 제작하고 그에 대한 특성을 평가하였다. 시료는 5N의 순도를 갖는 As, Se, Te 물질을 준비하고 $As_xSe_yTe_z$를 조성비에 맞추어서 석영관에 진공 봉입한 후 용융 혼합하여 $As_{33}Se_{67}$$As_{40}Se_{25}Te_{35}$ 조성의 두 가지 비정질 벌크를 제작하였다. 제작된 시료의 굴절률은 ellipsometer을 사용하여 측정하였고, 본 연구진이 자체 개발한 계산툴에 따라 다중층막 구조를 설계하였다. 열 증착법을 이용하여 설계된 구조에 맞게 기판에 올리는 방법으로 1차원 광자결정 구조의 다중층막 샘플을 제작하였고 UV-Vis-IR Spectroscopy를 사용하여 반사도와 투과도를 측정하였다. 광통신용 L/C 밴드 주파수 범위에서 투과성이 우수한 칼코게나이드 박막의 1차원 광자결정 구조는 FP-filter등의 소자로써 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
