  • The objective of this study is to understand the current status of damage to Korean musical caused by the COVID-19, and also to seek for the coping measures and development direction in the post-Corona era. Thus, to understand the current status of damage, this study mainly researched the contents of NAVER TV musical performance transmitted for three years from March 2018 to February 2021 for analyzing the online performance and performance statistical data of Performing Arts Box Office Information System. As a result, this study could find a hypothesis and grounds to simultaneously verify and draw the positive and negative sides, pessimistic implications, and optimistic possibility. First, the performing arts would be multilaterally expanded after being divided into offline performance and online performance. Second, the utilization of online performance could narrow the gap(polarization) between capital area and non-capital area. Third, it is urgently needed to develop a win-win model for the establishment of a new musical market. Fourth, the performers' copyrights should be fairly protected. Fifth, the visualization requires the Korean-style support foundation and talent equipped with convergent thinking and knowledge. In such temporal changes from offline performance to online performance, there should be more sophisticated qualitative and quantitative growth in musical market.

Despite the various discussions in the venture capital practice in the performing art area, there has been few studies analyzing the investors' perspective. While juggling with the 'artistic value' and 'rate of return', the investors are concerned about the 'transparency' of the performing art practice. When coupled with the subjective judgment of 'artistic value', the information asymmetry between the investor and the performing art manager becomes more delicate. In the performing art business, 'SPC(Special Purpose Company)' is considered a possible solution to organize the deal structure in this field. This study analyzes the role of SPC regarding the information asymmetry problem.

  • This study analyzed the use of scriptwriting and hologram technology for storytelling in the production of locally-centered cultural and artistic content. The musical <WolhwaJeon>, produced in the Gangneung area, was examined as a case study. The process of creating the script for the performance was used to establish the self-identity of the character "carp" and the stage visualization of the folktale "Yeonhwa." Furthermore, the use of hologram technology to actualize the inner expressions of the characters, deliver information, enhance spatiality, and visualize fantasy elements was examined. Through this approach, educational information about local folktales was provided to the local residents, and their pride in their region was heightened. This locally-centered content requires continuous development in a modern society that pursues cultural diversity, and future research is needed to produce and develop traditional and cultural content in other regions.

  • Ah! My Goddess has impressive narrative structure including a "narrative as a discourse," a "narrative as a story" and a "narrative by narrator": in a narrative as a discourse, North and South Korean soldiers make friendship; in a narrative by a narrator, main characters (including Sun-ho, Seok-gu, Ju-hwa, Chang-seop and Dong-hyeon) appear in the outer story and narrate the inner story of characters (including Dong-hyeon, Goddess and Seok-gu) within the frame of a play within a play; and in a narrative as a story, reality and fantasy intersect by the appearance of the "Goddess." This narrative structure contributes largely to 1) the character formation of space, 2) the strategic minimization of the stage, 3) the multiplicity of main characters, 4) the repetition of similar life story, and 5) the flexible change of a point of view. And the musical number serves as dramatic functions such as 1) pursuing the multiplicity of characters, 2) maximizing the effect of the expression of tragic feelings, 3) drawing audience's interest by irony and fantasy, 4) evoking the nostalgia for delicate feelings and pure wishes, and 5) ordinary female characters' playing the role of healing and salvation, thereby contributing to the reconstruction of reality and the style of fantasy.

The field of arts simply could not be executed with only techniques but through the theory and educational course, the artist is able to clearly express and communicate their genuine desires. Therefore, Korean musical education could not conform to shortsighted trends or be used as an instant tool for increasing competitiveness among universities but make an effort to provide good quality curriculum for the purpose of producing talented actors.
