A Study on Awareness of Cultural Welfare Worker on Empowerment (문화복지 실천가의 역량강화 인식에 대한 연구)

  • This study profoundly analyzed cultural welfare workers to find out how they command a strategy of empowerment according to types of action. The analysis result shows that cultural welfare workers perceive cultural welfare as an unstable human service job. Activity types of cultural welfare workers can largely be categorized into professional workers and vocational workers, and they are two extremes and continuum at the same time. On this account, a strategy of empowerment depends on types of action conducted by cultural welfare workers. There are accelerative elements that boost empowerment strategies positively and there are impediment elements that work adversely. These cultural welfare workers are making suggestion to prepare an official requirement for them to be acknowledged as a specialized worker and to increase various types of educational spectrum to meet their level. This study has significance for providing basic data for education, supervision, and policy for training human resources in future.

The practitioners' perceptions on settlement of cultural welfare policy (문화복지 제도정착에 관한 실천가 인식)

  • This study was based on politic reality which is being developed within the ambiguity of cultural welfare, and discussed what sort of awareness the practitioners show in the settlement process of the cultural welfare policy in depth. 4 elements were discovered in the settlement process of the cultural welfare policy which the practitioners are aware of. The elements are value(pursuit of comprehensive mankind), element of practice(process of operation), elements of external influences(process of policy settlement), and elements of internal influences(reinforcement of practitioners capability). This means that not only the process of policy settlement in a narrow sense, but also value, practice, and reinforcement of practitioners' capability for the provision of better service should be considered for the settlement of the policy. This study which analyzed the cultural welfare practitioners' awareness of policy settlement process is significant in that it provides the basic data for future settlement of the cultural welfare policy.

A Qualitative Study for Building up the Concept of Culture Welfare (문화복지 개념 정립을 위한 질적 연구 - 휴먼서비스 실천가들의 인식을 중심으로 -)

  • This study aimed to build up the concept of culture welfare. For this purpose, we analyzed the practitioners' understanding about culture welfare in culture and social welfare by Modified Grounded Theory Approach. The results showed that the practitioners did not understand the concept of culture welfare clearly, and revealed being in confusion. Their understandings about culture welfare were classified into five types, 1) a type denying a terminology, culture welfare itself, 2) a type without awareness about culture welfare, 3) a type regarding culture welfare as sub realm in the special domain of culture and social welfare, 4) a type undividing and integrating culture and social welfare, 5) a type recognizing an independent domain of culture welfare. But despite of large deviation like this, the practitioners were common to give emphasis on giving opportunities to everyone in the enjoyment of culture, for heightening the quality of life. Summing up, culture welfare is defined as 'all direct and indirect effort in culture and arts, in a narrow sense to economical vulnerable class, and in a broad sense to everyone, to raise cultural susceptibility, creative thinking, and potential competence for realization a life worthy of man. The significance of this study is in establishment the definite and practical concept of culture welfare through a deep analysis the practitioners' understanding. This will give the theoretical basis to the study and the development of various programs in culture welfare.

A Study on Applicability of Anti-Oppressive Practice to Foreign Workers in South Korea (한국 외국인근로자를 위한 반-억압 실천 (Anti-oppressive practice)의 적용가능성 연구)

  • Anti-oppressive practice (AOP) is a form of social work practice that has developed in the UK. In South Korea, Anti-oppressive social work has not been widely studied / explored unlike in other countries in the world. Its main principles, social justice and human rights, have become commonplace. AOP includes transformational practice because its orientation emphasizes social change through celebrating diverse identities and rejecting hierarchies of oppression and prestige. Recently, a growing body of literature on social work with foreign workers has resulted in an increased understanding of its population and its needs. It needs a theoretical and practical framework for foreign workers necessary to inform effective models of service delivery, reflecting cultural competence, and changing oppressive social structure. In this paper, we will introduce the main principles of AOP, analyse written texts reflected by foreign workers and social work practitioners' opinion, and suggest the implications on possibilities and constraints of applicability to foreign workers in South Korea.

A Study about the Function of Culture Welfare Programs for Dissolving Social Exclusion about the Social Vulnerable Classes - A Qualitative Research Focused on the Culture Welfare Practitioners - (사회적 취약계층의 사회적 배제에 대한 문화복지 프로그램의 기능 - 문화복지실천가 대상 질적연구 -)

  • This study aimed to look for the possibility of dissolving social exclusion about the social vulnerable classes through the culture welfare programs. For this purpose, we analyzed interview records focused on the culture welfare practitioners applying the Modified Grounded Theory Approach worked out by Kinosita. The results showed that the culture welfare programs functionated of dissolving social exclusion about the social weaks by enhancing latent faculties and the sense of self-respect of them through providing various opportunities of culture fruition. It was appeared that the culture welfare programs promoted creative competence and the sense of self-respect, and strengthened the sense of solidarity of the participants by using the approaching strategies of offering various opportunities of creational experience, atypical operating programs centered on the process, establishing of the participants' subjecthood, and communal activities. That is, it was proved that actually the social weaks experienced the change of life with feeling emotional satisfaction, promoting family and human relationship, establishing positive identity, empowerment, participating communal activities, and so on, through the culture welfare programs. From these results we can know that if we provide the programs mixing the culture welfare programs with social welfare services which traditionally reinforced social exclusion about the social vulnerable classes by stigma, the social exclusion about them can be dissolved.

  • Institutional Ethnography, a methodology, developed by Dorothy Smith in Canada. Institutional Ethnography is different from traditional ethnography. Also it differs from various kinds of ethnographies such as interpretive ethnography, political ethnography, organizational ethnography, feminist ethnography, auto ethnohraphy. Institutional Ethnography explores social organization of everyday's actualities in institutional settings. This study introduces the outlines of institutional ethnography and examines the usefullness and implications in social welfare knowledge. Usefulness and implications of institutional ethnography follows: 1) expansion and specification of knowledges of 'organized actualities' in social welfare practice and policy fields 2) discovery of specific points for institutional changes in social welfare fields 3) production of social welfare knowledge from the standpoint of ruled, oppressed peoples.

  • The purpose of this research is understanding of a life and finding suggestion about old person's welfare looking about old person's mutual behavior in an old group culture connected with Jong-Myo park.. For this, researcher has been researching and interviewing and gathering datal more than 1 year about old person in Jong-Myo park and near persons from December 2007. The data were followed by suggestion of Spradley(1979). That is categorization after confirm about territory of a old person's life who in Jong-Myo park or near. Cultural subject was confirmed through these acting that is an old person forgetting from group culture or desire of revelation, Escape from land forced landing, Rescue of dead time. Through the researching of an old persons group culture location, the researcher propose the way of welfare policy about old person.

The Influence of Career-Education on Job Satisfaction in the Multicultural Family Service Centers Focused on the Mediating effects of Multicultural Practice Competence and Organizational Climate (다문화가족지원센터의 직무 재교육이 직무만족도에 미치는 영향: 조직풍토와 다문화실천역량의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study analyzed the influence of career-education on job satisfaction in the multicultural family service centers focused on the mediating effects of multicultural practice competence and organizational climate. A self-reported questionnaire survey was done on 180 multicultural practitionser in Seoul and Kyunggi Do. A total of 175 copies were used for final analysis with ones insincerely made were excluded. Collected date underwent Multivariate structural equation model analysis using AMOS 21.0 and frequency, descriptive, and corelation analysis were made using SPSS 20.0. Statistical program. The study results revealed that career-education directly affect organizational climate and multicultural practice competence, and organizational climate directly affected job satisfaction. Career education did not affect job satisfaction, but organizational climate had complete mediating effect in the structural equation model. Additionally multicultural practice competence didn't have an effect on job satisfaction and mediating effect in the structural equation model. Based on the results, intervention strategies to increase job satisfaction of multicultural practitioners and future study implications were suggested.

The Effects of Elderly's Participation in Lifelong Education on the Ego Integrity, and The Mediating Effect of Life Satisfaction (노인평생교육 참여가 자아통합감에 미치는 영향과 생활만족도의 매개효과)

  • This study focused on the relationship between elderly's participation in lifelong education(participation availability, participating fields) and ego integrity. To verify the correlation of two variables, mediating model structured by life satisfaction was used. The data was Seoul Welfare Panel Data made by Seoul Welfare Foundation in 2010 and the total subject was 1,862 elderly aged over 60. When it comes to research methods, structured equation analysis for verifying the mediating effect was practiced. The findings are as follows: First, life satisfaction did function as partial mediator on relationship between elderly's participation in lifelong education and ego integrity. Second, elderly's life satisfaction increased as participating in field of language, not in field of culture and art. Ego integrity of elderly was increased as participating in field of culture and art, not in field of self-improvement and hobby. This study indicates theoretical and practical interventions to promote elderly's lifelong education based on the conclusion elderly's lifelong education participation in the aging society has positive effects on life satisfaction and ego integrity are meaningful for successful aging.

The Effectiveness of Peer Relation Improvement Program on Peer Relation in Children of Multi-cultural Families (교우관계 향상프로그램이 다문화가정 아동의 교우관계에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of peer relation improvement program on peer relation in children of multi-cultural families. To test of the effectiveness of the program, this study employed pretest-posttest control group design. Total 18 multi-cultural families' children have completed the program, 9 children were in experimental group, whereas 9 ones belonged to control group, the date were analyzed by Wilcoxon singed rank test and Mann-Whitney U test. As the result, The peer relation improvement program was verified to effect on children' peer relation Improvement The limitations of the study were discussed, as well as the application of the study results and recommendations for additional exploratory research.
