  • A tendency to ignore the existence of public space in Korea under the Japanese colonial period seems to be driven from nationalist historiography in which all historical events under the colonial power have to be interpreted in terms of militant controls and resistances against them. Historical approach to mass media of that period has lasted to be saturated with the tendency and forced history students to stick to the nationalist guidelines. Struggles against Japanese imperial power by national-capital-operated newspaper have been a main menu of studies on the period's communication. The media were often hailed as fighting the colonial power for nation's independence. The present thesis aims to criticize the nationalist point of view and to reveal that nationalist interpretations may miss a variety of historical information. Even under the severe surveillance of colonial police some journalists tried either to inform officially or to smuggle into informed groups. The colonized society could experienced fields of public-ness throughout the practices of such as media fields, cultural fields, political fields. Those fields, of course, didn't come from the graceful favor of the colonial power but from the construction of the colonized. The public-ness seemed to be born for the easiness of control, but became later a constructed field of public-ness with which the colonized semiotically wrestled the power and grew a modern type of political (un)consciousness. Depicting what happened just before 815 liberation day in Korea the present paper showed that the less nationalist historiography can render help to those seeking political practices of the colonized in a micro-level.

They performed various possibility of material, technology, and engineering available to contemporary art. By reflecting the function of art and technology in society, eventually they developed the methodology of new aesthetics which had organic relationship with contemporary world. In this sense, this research have its academic significance. • Franchise system in Korea has been developed in different way compared with American way of franchising based on mutual contract and intellectual property context. Korean franchising is mostly based on product distribution franchise concept rather than business format franchise in which franchisor makes revenue sources from providing their products as much as possible thru group purchasing and logistics rather than receiving royalty. Many franchise enterprises from Korea drive to enter into global franchise market based on the successful performance of Korean way of franchising. Korean enterprises are required to prepare completely for research and survey regarding local culture, custom, way of life and legal matters etc. when entering into global franchise market to gain a substantial performance. CaffeBene recently entered into American franchise business with success, and many other Korean franchise enterprises have a deep interest in proceeding with global franchise business modeling CaffeBene case. There is no Korean franchise enterprise in United Kingdom in which service franchise area in particular with personal service is considered to become a promising and potential franchise business and many people show a great interest in Oriental foods and beverages with well-being trend. Korean franchise enterprises have now access to United Kingdom easier because IT industry including internet of the country have been developed by leaps and bounds since London Olympic in 2012. The purpose of this study is to suggest key success factors and basic strategy such as situation analysis, selecting business format, and marketing strategy for successful launching of franchise business in United Kingdom.

  • The purpose of this article is to elucidate the origins of the symbolic significance of traditional Korean talismanic ornaments such as dried pollack, bokjori (luck-bringing strainer), silk threads, and sokotture (a nose-block). Previous studies have primarily interpreted the magical meanings of these ornaments based on their shapes or functions, but such approaches are limited due to this likely being an ex-post-facto interpretation. This study argues that the symbolic meanings of these ornaments originated from the socio-economic characteristics of the time. These items were food resources or products closely related to the economic activities of the people of the time, and therefore, could be considered symbols of abundance and fortune. In particular, dried pollack served as an important food resource and commodity during the Late Joseon Dynasty, even functioning as a quasi-currency, and considering that fish are seen as symbols of abundance and fertility in various cultures around the world, its symbolic significance becomes clearer. Bokjori and sokotture acquired the meaning of abundance by being associated with major goods or properties of the time such as rice and cattle, and silk thread was linked to sericulture, a significant source of income for farmers of the time. These economic characteristics form the basis of the symbolism of these ornaments, and the function of these talismans can be seen as a secondary symbolism added in the process of social justification of these customs. This study reveals that economic motives underlie magical-religious customs and suggests that a broad consideration of the cultural and ecological environment of the time is necessary to understand the origins and transformations of cultural phenomena.

  • This paper analyzes the historical significance and aesthetic meaning of the emergence of 'artists as theoreticians,' a major aspect of contemporary art criticism practice, focusing on the editorial project of the British monthly visual arts magazine Studio International. The sharing of writings about art through publications confirms the lens of critical perspectives on contemporary art and serves as an opportunity to reflect on broader political and cultural conditions. In particular, this paper can function as a resource for assessing the art historical horizons created by the connection between artists and publications, rather than theorists or critics, on the magazine platform. This paper focuses on the debates formed through Studio International in the late 1960s, examining the magazine's stance on new developments in art, the practice of defining critical terms that accompanied it, and the responses to them. The texts of 'artists as theoreticians' such as Victor Burgin and Joseph Kosuth, published in Studio International, overcame the conventionality of art that relies on formal aspects, and argued that the concept of art as something named by the artist is possible as art that does not require the mediation of objects. The discourse practices of these artists became an important factor in destroying the authority of the historicist critical paradigm, thereby acquiring the art historical value of artists who took the position of theoreticians dealing with art.

  • Classifying digital games' genres is quite ambiguous work, as they have been using other media's genre classification such as film genre. Therefore this paper tries to propose a new way of classifying genres of digital games. There are two kinds of approaches to digital games genres: one is based on gamers' activities and the other is on game text. The former turned out to be limitative because the meanings of gamers' activities are sometimes overlapped and this overlapping causes lack of objectivity in deciding which activity belongs to which genre. On the other hand, the latter is comparatively clear and accurate as it is based on what a game text provides. After all. a new classification of digital games based on game text makes total of 7 digital game types, which are Physical obstacles, Mainly Physical & partially intellectual obstacles, Intellectual obstacles, Mainly intellectual & partially physical obstacles, Self-supporting games, Confronting games, Ranking games, and each type has its own convention and characteristics.
