Although storytelling programs for preschoolers have been in high increase in Korea, the programs currently operating in Korean public libraries have not been well received by the public because of the lack of understanding of the Public and unsystematic operation of the program. The purpose of this study is to draw out effective ways to reform the storytelling programs for Preschoolers of Korean Public libraries through comparativeanalysis with those of American public libraries. • As affective barriers to library and information use, library anxiety(Mellon, 1986) has been studied in reference/information services and bibliographic instructions. The paper revisits Mellon's theory of library anxiety and Bostick's(1992) Library Anxiety Scale(LAS) in the digital library environment. In particular, this study attempts to address the inadequacy of the continued applications of LAS in the digital library environment, although the scale has been used unquestionably as the instrument measuring library anxiety. This contention was substantiated by three service trends in digital libraries(i.e., digital reference services, remote access, and transition from bibliographic instructions to information literacy) and by re-analyses of published library anxiety research papers in recent years. This study addresses the need for scale development that could measure anxieties of digital library users. It also suggests Information Literacy Anxiety Scale(ILAS) as a direction for the new scale.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how the commonly known profile of public library users was described, by reviewing the literature published in the United States before the 1990s, when information environment of the public has been drastically changed. The profile of users as the socio-economically advantaged, active participants, and communication elites, has little changed since Berelson's study in the 1940s. Continuing research on users, however, are still needed to better understand their needs and behavior, facing the change since the 1990s.

  • The Library and Information Policy Committee announced a national comprehensive plan for all libraries in August, 2008. The plan includes the re-establishment of a subject-based national library system as one of the major policy challenges. Based on the preceding study (an analysis on systematization and the gaps in subject-based national libraries in major countries), this paper proposed three models: a centralized model focused on the NLK, a horizontally-linked model, and a long-term strategic model for subject-based national library systematization in Korea.
