  • This study was a descriptive survey grasping the convergent relationship among the appearance satisfaction, self-esteem, and problem-solving ability of adolescents. The participants were 158 students of two middle schools in J city. The appearance satisfaction, self-esteem, problem-solving ability and general characteristics of students were measured. The data were collected from September 26 to October 14, 2016. The collected data was analyzed with t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients. As a result, the level of appearance satisfaction, self-esteem and problem-solving ability were relatively above moderate. Problem-solving ability was positively correlated with appearance satisfaction(r=.602 p<.001) and self-esteem(r=.881, p<.001). Therefore, the arbitration program development and convergent access which can improve the appearance satisfaction and self-esteem in order to raise the program-solving ability is required.

  • Informatics curriculum has been revised for informatics principles and concepts to effectively teach. According to the revised curriculum, researches are verifying the educational effects of algorithmic thinking and problem-solving abilities using programming language by applying it to various area. However, researches in programming education considering the level of student are yet incomplete. This research has analyzed the impact of the perceived level of problem solving on the performance of project completeness. As results of difference of project completeness, a high perceived level of problem solving group's performance of project completeness was higher than a low perceived level of problem solving group's one. Analysis of the impact of the perceived level of problem solving on the performance of project completeness, 'problem finding' factor had a significant impact. This research suggested the importance of 'problem finding' and self-reflecting introspective 'reviewing' stages in problem solving process using programming language.abstract of your study in English. • According to previous studies, it shows that the metacognitive ability that makes the positive element of the problem solver positively affects the problem-solving process of mathematics. In order to accurately grasp causality, this study investigates the specific characteristics of the meta-affect factor in the process of problem-solving. To do this, we analyzed the types and frequency of data collected from collaborative problem-solving situations composed of 4th~6th grade mathematically gifted children in small group of two. As a result, it can be seen that the type of meta-affect in the problem-solving process of mathematically gifted children is related to the correctness rate of the problem. First, regardless of the success or failure of the problem-solving, the meta-affect appeared relatively frequently in the meta-affect types in which the cognitive factors related to the context of problem-solving appeared first, and acted as the meta-functional type of the evaluation and attitude. Especially, in the case of successful problem-solving of mathematically gifted children, meta-affect showed a very active function as meta-functional type of evaluation.

  • Mathematical problem solving has become a major concern in school mathematics, and methods to enhance children's mathematical problem solving abilities have been the main topics in many mathematics education researches. In addition to previous researches about problem solving, the development of a mathematical problem solving method that enables children to establish mathematical concepts through problem solving, to discover formalized principles associated with concepts, and to apply them to real world situations needs. For this purpose, I examined the necessity of problem solving education and reviewed mathematical problem solving researches and problem solving models for giving the theoretical backgrounds. This study suggested the problem solving approach based on the intuitive and the formal inquiry which are the basis of mathematical discovery and inquiry process. And it is developed to keep the balance and complement of the conceptual understanding and the procedural understanding respectively. In addition, it consisted of problem posing to apply the mathematical principles in the application stage.

  • This study investigates the influence of project-based learning method on the problem-solving ability and communication ability of students taking the 'Reading Guide' course in Library and Information Science(LIS). During this study, two tests measuring students' problem-solving ability and communication ability were conducted, containing 30 items divided into 5 steps of problem-solving processes and 45 items divided into 15 categories of communication ability, respectively. By utilizing the correspondence sample T-test during this study, significant differences were found in the 5 steps problem-solving processes. However, no difference was found between the pre-test and the post-test results in all 15 categories of communication ability. Subsequently, an in-depth interview was conducted, inquiring into the students' perspectives on the difficulty of attending classes, the content of lectures, the appropriateness of assignments, the validity of the evaluation method, the relationship with their team members, and the benefits acquired from completing the projects. Finally, an intensive analysis was conducted in the categories of problem-solving ability and communication ability.

  • The present study explored a relationship between mathematical understandings of teachers and ways in which their knowledge transferred in designing lessons for hypothetical students from Gess-Newsome (1999)'s transformative perspective of pedagogical content knowledge. To this end, we conducted clinical interviews with four secondary mathematics teachers of their solving and teaching of equation writing. After analyzing the teacher participants' attention to Key Developmental Understandings (Simon, 2007) in solving equation writing, we sought to understand the relationship between their mathematical knowledge of the problems and mathematical knowledge in teaching the problems to hypothetical students. Two of the four teachers who attended the key developmental understandings solved the problems more successfully than those who did not. The other two teachers had trouble representing and explaining the problems, which involved reasoning with improper fractions or reciprocal relationships between quantities. The key developmental understandings of all four teachers were reflected in their pedagogical actions for teaching the equation writing problems. The findings contribute to teacher education by providing empirical data on the relationship between teachers' mathematical knowledge and their knowledge for teaching particular mathematics.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the state of problem solving in Korean elementary mathematics. To do this, we considered the meaning of problem and problem solving in mathematics education, and analyzed the mathematics curricula in the longitudinal-latitudinal dimensions respectively. The longitudinal one consists in examining and comparing the all-time Korean elementary mathematics curricula. Meanwhile the latitudinal one consists in examining and comparing the elementary mathematics curricula of Singapore, the United Kingdom, Japan, and France. As a result of analysis, we selected ten sieves for analysing Korean elementary mathematics textbooks according to the 7th mathematics curriculum. By the analysis, we conclude that we teach problem solving quite positively in school mathematics relative to another countries, in particular we have to reconsider some issues including dealing problem solving as a independent content not a process integrated in other contents.

  • Mathematics education emphasizes on nurturing number sense, but researches on this have been scarce, and most of them has been confined to elementary level students. This thesis, therefore, tried to analyze how elementary students solve mathematics sense problems in order to give some insight into how to teach number sense. For this, this thesis categorized into two ways of using number sense and algorithm as problem solving, and analyzed students' responses using test sheets. Accordingly, middle school students showed higher score on the number sense test and higher rates of using number sense than elementary students. In addition, students showing higher achievement used both number sense and algorithm, but those of lower achievement were more likely to use only algorithm. Plus, among students showing higher achievement, middle school students used more number sense than elementary school students, but there was not meaningful difference among those showing lower achievement. Lastly, It was shown that there was difference in the rate using number sense according to the number sense components.
