Instrumental Genesis of Computer Algebra System(CAS) in Mathematical Problem Solving among High School Students (고등학교 수학 문제해결에서 CAS의 도구발생)

  • This study was designed to gain insights into instrumental genesis process of CAS in Korean high school students and to explore its practical potentials in secondary mathematics education. Two activities, such as Concept-Centered Mathematics Activity based on CAS and Problem Solving Activities, were constructed and executed to 10th Grade seven students for twelve class hours. The finding on the students' activities are as follows : it is meaningful in mathematics education, especially in algebra education, in that the CAS based concept centered mathematics activity offers great opportunities to deal with high-qualified application problems. The problem solving activities based on the instrumented CAS may have an influence on the sequence of mathematics curriculum, e.g. the optimization problems may precede the calculus problems such as derivatives in high school. The results of this study to investigate the instrumental genesis of CAS in mathematical activities will give insights into the secondary mathematics curriculum to prepare the CAS in Korea.

The Development of Assessment Tools to Measure Scientific Creative Problem Solving ability for Middle School Students (중학생의 과학 창의적 문제 해결 능력을 측정하기 위한 도구 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a valid and reliable assessment tool for measuring scientific creative problem solving ability for middle school students. To achieve this aim, an assessment framework, four assessment items, and detailed rubrics for scientific creative problem solving were developed. The assessment framework had three dimensions (i.e. science contents, inquiry process, and thinking skills) and sub-elements for each dimension. The assessment items were tested with 320 middle school students in order to determine reliability, difficulty, and item discrimination. Science teachers and experts in science education checked the validity of the items and the rubrics. The results proved that the assessment tool was reliable enough to evaluate students' scientific creative problem solving skills.

  • The purpose of this study is to offer the implication for elementary school mathematics teaching by analyzing teachers' reflection on the cognitive demands of mathematical tasks they give in class. During the setup phase and the implementation phase in math class, the researchers analyzed the change of cognitive demands on mathematical tasks and the factors which had influence on such changes. After teachers' reflection on teaching, the researchers analyzed the change of cognitive demands on mathematical tasks and the factors which had influence on such changes in math classes. As a result, before teachers' reflection on the cognitive demands of mathematical tasks, the higher-level demands of mathematical tasks had a tendency to decline. However, after teachers' reflection on the cognitive demands of mathematical tasks, higher-level demands of mathematical tasks were maintained.

A study on finding solutions to generalized Jisuguimundo(hexagonal tortoise problem) (일반화된 지수귀문도의 해를 구하는 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Seok-Jung Choi's Jisuguimundo mentioned as a brilliant legacy in the history of Korean mathematics had been cloaked in mystery for 300 years. In the meantime there has been some efforts to find solutions, and some particular answers were found, but no one achieved full success mathematically. By the way, H-alternating method showed that to find solutions of Jisuguimundo is possible, even though that method restricted magic number to 88~92 and 94~98. In this paper, $n{\times}n$ Jisuguimundo is defined, and it is showed that finding solutions of it is always possible in case of partition $({\upsilon}+1)+{\upsilon}+({\upsilon}+1)$ & co-partition ${\upsilon}+({\upsilon}+1)+{\upsilon}$, partition $({\upsilon}+1)+({\upsilon}-1)+({\upsilon}+1)$ & co-partition $({\upsilon}-1)+({\upsilon}+1)+({\upsilon}-1)$, partition $({\upsilon}+1)+({\upsilon}+2)+({\upsilon}+1)$ & co-partition $({\upsilon}+2)+({\upsilon}+1)+({\upsilon}+2)$, and partition $({\upsilon}+1)+({\upsilon}+3)+({\upsilon}+1)$ & co-partition $({\upsilon}+3)+({\upsilon}+1)+({\upsilon}+3)$. And It is suggested to find solutions of $n{\times}n$ Jisuguimundo could be used as a task for problem solving.

Current Status and Problems of Communication between Teachers and Parents using SMS (SMS를 활용한 교사와 학부모의 의사소통 실태 및 과제)

  • With the increase of double-income families, parents are not free in terms of time and space in communicating with teachers. Also for teachers, with many students and heavy load of work, communication with parents has been poor. As a means for overcoming this kind of situation, this research examined the current status of communication between teachers and parents using SMS and problems to solve. The investigation of the actual conditions of SMS use showed that there was a high number of answers pointing out that SMS is needed for the exchange of information regarding children and educational activities, and teachers pointed out that the communication was effective for exchanging educational information regarding children whereas parents pointed out that it was effective in improving the children's attitudes. Based on the results of the analysis, the following was found as tasks to be solved: preparing a plan for revitalizing SMS use, solving the burden that parents have in communicating with teachers, becoming more friendly with teachers, investigation of the reason why there is no response regarding SMS and preparing countermeasures, providing information appropriate to what parents want, increasing the reply rate of parents, expansion of text capacity, and trouble with getting online with a computer.

  • 무선센서네트워크에서 사용되는 혼잡제어 방식은 일반적인 네트워크 방식과는 다르게 고려해야할 사항이 있다. 문제 해결에 사용할수 있는 자원이 한정적이며, 중앙에서 혼잡 제어를 할 경우 지나친 통신 부하가 발생할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 집단지성(Swarm Intelligence)의 일종인 새 떼의 행동양식을 무선센서네트워크에 적용한 혼잡제어 기법을 살펴보고, 기존 기법에서 발생하는 에너지 소비 불균형을 해결하기 위한 기법에 대해 기술한다. 본 논문을 통해 무선센서네트워크에 새 떼의 간단한 행동양식을 적용함으로써 강인하고 확장 가능하며 자가 적응이 가능한 혼잡제어가 가능함을 확인하고, 집단지성이 우리가 직면하고 있는 다양한 연구 과제의 해결 도구가 될 수 있는 가능성을 보인다.

  • Collaborative knowledge is continuously producted and modified by group individuals during collaboration and it is also fostered in a radical trust environment like Wiki. The example is Wikipedia. However I found out a big problem as difficulties of exploring when the knowledge space is extended more and more widely. To solve this problem, collaborative knowledge management systems are implemented based on wiki. The one is navigation map that supports the efficient exploring and the another is knowledge map that supports a convergent thinking in a group. In this study, we examined the effectiveness of navigation map and knowledge map.

  • The current cloud system is not compatible as low interoperability between cloud systems because they build up cloud environments with their own way. For example, users who are using Google's cloud system, it will not be able to use the cloud system of MS (Microsoft). To solve these problems, CSB (Cloud Service Broker) technology appeared, but solves interoperability problems between cloud systems require circumstances to develop and still much research. In this study, in the CSB, which has appeared as a service intermediary technology of heterogeneous distributed cloud environment (Cloud Service Broker) technology, to study authentication system, which is a fundamental problem to be solved of the interoperability of the cloud user.

  • The purpose of this study is to observe the changes of EEG signals in the process for solving the problems in concentration. In the experiments, subjects were given two tasks. The first task is to memorize the words after they used their own smart phone for ordinary commercial games and the second task is to memorize the words after they read a page of a p-book. In this paper, we present SMR waves and mid-beta waves to analyze from the EEG signals of the subjects because the waves are the EEG components related to concentration of human.

The Effects of Tasks Setting for Mathematical Modelling in the Complex Real Situation (실세계 상황에서 수학적 모델링 과제설정 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of tasks setting for mathematical modelling in the complex real situations. The tasks setting(MMa, MeA) in mathematical modelling was so important that we can't ignore its effects to develop meaning and integrate mathematical ideas. The experimental setting were two groups ($N_1=103$, $N_2=103$) at public high school and non-experimental setting was one group($N_3=103$). In mathematical achievement, we found meaningful improvement for MeA group on modelling tasks, but no meaningful effect on information processing tasks. The statistical method used was ACONOVA analysis. Beside their achievement, we were much concerned about their modelling approach that TSG21 had suggested in Category "Educational & cognitive Midelling". Subjects who involved in experimental works showed very interesting approach as Exploration, analysis in some situation ${\Rightarrow}$ Math. questions ${\Rightarrow}$ Setting models ${\Rightarrow}$ Problem solution ${\Rightarrow}$ Extension, generalization, but MeA group spent a lot of time on step: Exploration, analysis and MMa group on step, Setting models. Both groups integrated actively many heuristics that schoenfeld defined. Specially, Drawing and Modified Simple Strategy were the most powerful on approach step 1,2,3. It was very encouraging that those experimental setting was improved positively more than the non-experimental setting on mathematical belief and interest. In our school system, teaching math. modelling could be a answer about what kind of educational action or environment we should provide for them. That is, mathematical learning.
