Photogrammetric Crack Detection Method in Building using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (사진측량법을 활용한 무인비행체의 건축물 균열도 작성 기법)

  • Recently, with the development of the fourth industrial revolution that has been achieved through the fusion of information and communication technology (ICT), the technologies of AI, IOT, BIG-DATA, it is increasing utilization rate by industry and research and development of application technologies are being actively carried out. Especially, in the case of unmanned aerial vehicles, the construction market is expected to be one of the most commercialized areas in the world for the next decade. However, research on utilization of unmanned aerial vehicles in the construction field in Korea is insufficient. In this study, We have developed a quantitative building inspection method using the unmanned aerial vehicle and presented the protocol for it. The proposed protocol was verified by applying it to existing old buildings, and defect information could be quantified by calculating length, width, and area for each defect. Through this technical research, the final goal is to contribute to the development of safety diagnosis technology using unmanned aerial vehicle and risk assessment technology of buildings in case of disaster such as earthquake.

A Study on a surveying method for accurate position of uninhabitable islands (무인도서 정밀 위치조사 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Although the uninhabitable islands are part of national property, those are not systematically managed and controlled in Korea. In this study, the positioning standards for uninhabitable islands are suggested with proper surveying methods. To establish the standards, the current status on managing the uninhabitable islands in foreign countries are investigated and analyzed. It was found that it is necessary to establish the ocean geodetic network based on a sound and systematic plan. In Korea, the ocean geodetic network can be established by combining the National control point and territorial sea control points. We suggested that one or two third or fourth control points are required to be established in total of 2,679 islands with connection to the 47and 249 first and second-order control points. It is expected that this network will provide ground control points for aerial and satellite images for large scale ocean mapping. In addition, close cooperation among the related departments such as Ministry of Construction & Transportation, National Geographic Information Institute, Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and Ministry of Environment is necessary for successful management on uninhabitable islands.

  • Satellite imagery is generally used for investigating the damage from natural disaster for wide area and remotely piloted vehicle or aerial photos are used for the local damage. But for more detailed information such as damages of public facilities, these methods are inadequate and so in this case field surveying has been carried out. We tried to estimate the damage of public facilities faster and more accurately using photogrammetric method. We developed a digital stereo camera system by fixing two digital cameras on a frame, and with this system the photos of actually damaged areas were collected. The damages were estimated from these stereo photos. Then the estimated data was compared with field surveying data in order to verify our system.

Elevation Correction of Multi-Temporal Digital Elevation Model based on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Images over Agricultural Area (농경지 지역 무인항공기 영상 기반 시계열 수치표고모델 표고 보정)

  • In this study, we propose an approach for calibrating the elevation of a DEM (Digital Elevation Model), one of the key data in realizing unmanned aerial vehicle image-based precision agriculture. First of all, radiometric correction is performed on the orthophoto, and then ExG (Excess Green) is generated. The non-vegetation area is extracted based on the threshold value estimated by applying the Otsu method to ExG. Subsequently, the elevation of the DEM corresponding to the location of the non-vegetation area is extracted as EIFs (Elevation Invariant Features), which is data for elevation correction. The normalized Z-score is estimated based on the difference between the extracted EIFs to eliminate the outliers. Then, by constructing a linear regression model and correcting the elevation of the DEM, high-quality DEM is produced without GCPs (Ground Control Points). To verify the proposed method using a total of 10 DEMs, the maximum/minimum value, average/standard deviation before and after elevation correction were compared and analyzed. In addition, as a result of estimating the RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) by selecting the checkpoints, an average RMSE was derivsed as 0.35m. Comprehensively, it was confirmed that a high-quality DEM could be produced without GCPs.

Use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Imagery and Deep Learning UNet to Classification Upland Crop in Small Scale Agricultural Land (무인항공기와 딥러닝(UNet)을 이용한 소규모 농지의 밭작물 분류)

  • In order to increase the food self-sufficiency rate, monitoring and analysis of crop conditions in the cultivated area is important, and the existing measurement methods in which agricultural personnel perform measurement and sampling analysis in the field are time-consuming and labor-intensive for this reason inefficient. In order to overcome this limitation, it is necessary to develop an efficient method for monitoring crop information in a small area where many exist. In this study, RGB images acquired from unmanned aerial vehicles and vegetation index calculated using RGB image were applied as deep learning input data to classify complex upland crops in small farmland. As a result of each input data classification, the classification using RGB images showed an overall accuracy of 80.23% and a Kappa coefficient of 0.65, In the case of using the RGB image and vegetation index, the additional data of 3 vegetation indices (ExG, ExR, VDVI) were total accuracy 89.51%, Kappa coefficient was 0.80, and 6 vegetation indices (ExG, ExR, VDVI, RGRI, NRGDI, ExGR) showed 90.35% and Kappa coefficient of 0.82. As a result, the accuracy of the data to which the vegetation index was added was relatively high compared to the method using only RGB images, and the data to which the vegetation index was added showed a significant improvement in accuracy in classifying complex crops.

Availability Evaluation For Generation Orthoimage Using Photogrammetric UAV System (사진측량용 UAV 시스템을 이용한 정사영상 제작 및 활용성 평가)

  • This study analyzes the accuracy of ortho imagery based on whether camera calibration performed or not, using an unmanned aerial vehicle which equipped smart camera. Photgrammetric UAV system application was developed and smart camera performed image triangulation, and then created image as ortho imagery. Image triangulation was performed depending on whether interior orientation (IO) parameters were considered or not, which determined at the camera calibration phase. As a result of the camera calibration, RMS error appeared 0.57 pixel, which is more accurate compared to the result of the previous study using non-metric camera. When IO parameters were considered in static experiment, the triangulation resulted in 2 pixel or less (RMSE), which is at least 200 % higher than when IO parameters were not considered. After generate ortho imagery, the accuracy is 89% higher when camera calibration are considered than when they are not considered. Therefore, smart camera has high potential to use as a payload for UAV system and is expected to be equipped on the current UAV system to function directly or indirectly.

A Study on Automatic Calculation of Earth-volume Using 3D Model of B-Rep Solid Structure (B-Rep Solid 구조의 3차원 모델을 이용한 토공량 자동 산정에 관한 연구)

  • As the 4th industrial revolution is in full swing and next-generation ICT(Information & Communications Technology) convergence technology is being developed, various smart construction technologies are being rapidly introduced in the construction field to respond to technological changes. In particular, since the earth-volume calculation process for site design accounts for a large part of the design cost at the construction site, related researches are being actively conducted to improve the efficiency of the process and accurately calculate the earth-volume. The purpose of this study is to present a method for quickly constructing the topography of a construction site in 3D and efficiently calculating earth-volume using the results. For this purpose, the construction site was constructed as a 3D realistic model using large-scale aerial photos obtained from UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). At this time, since the constructed 3D realistic model has a surface model structure in which volume calculation is impossible, the structure was converted into a 3D solid model to enable volume calculation. And we devised a methodology to calculate earth-volume based on CAD(Computer-Aided Design and Drafting) using the converted solid model. Automatically calculating earth-volume from the solid model by applying the method. As a result, It was possible to confirm a relative deviation of 1.52% from the calculated earth-volume from the existing survey results. In addition, as a result of comparative analysis of the process time required for each method, it was confirmed that the time required is reduced of 60%. The technique presented in this study is expected to be utilized as a technology for smart construction management, such as periodic site monitoring throughout the entire construction process, as well as cost reduction for earth-volume calculation.

A Study on Point Cloud Generation Method from UAV Image Using Incremental Bundle Adjustment and Stereo Image Matching Technique (Incremental Bundle Adjustment와 스테레오 영상 정합 기법을 적용한 무인항공기 영상에서의 포인트 클라우드 생성방안 연구)

  • Utilization and demand of UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) for the generation of 3D city model are increasing. In this study, we performed an experiment to adjustment position/orientation of UAV with incomplete attitude information and to extract point cloud data. In order to correct the attitude of the UAV, the rotation angle was calculated by using the continuous position information of UAV movements. Based on this, the corrected position/orientation information was obtained by applying IBA (Incremental Bundle Adjustment) based on photogrammetry. Each pair was transformed into an epipolar image, and the MDR (Multi-Dimensional Relaxation) technique was applied to obtain high precision DSM. Each extracted pair is aggregated and output in the form of a single point cloud or DSM. Using the DJI inspire1 and Phantom4 images, we can confirm that the point cloud can be extracted which expresses the railing of the building clearly. In the future, research will be conducted on improving the matching performance and establishing sensor models of oblique images. After that, we will continue the image processing technology for the generation of the 3D city model through the study of the extraction of 3D cloud It should be developed.

Multi Point Cloud Integration based on Observation Vectors between Stereo Images (스테레오 영상 간 관측 벡터에 기반한 다중 포인트 클라우드 통합)

  • In this paper, we present how to create a point cloud for a target area using multiple unmanned aerial vehicle images and to remove the gaps and overlapping points between datasets. For this purpose, first, IBA (Incremental Bundle Adjustment) technique was applied to correct the position and attitude of UAV platform. We generate a point cloud by using MDR (Multi-Dimensional Relaxation) matching technique. Next, we register point clouds based on observation vectors between stereo images by doing this we remove gaps between point clouds which are generated from different stereo pairs. Finally, we applied an occupancy grids based integration algorithm to remove duplicated points to create an integrated point cloud. The experiments were performed using UAV images, and our experiments show that it is possible to remove gaps and duplicate points between point clouds generated from different stereo pairs.

  • In recent years, various methods have been attempted to visually manage the construction site efficiently, and in particular, there has been a tendency to use a UAV or a drone in the air rather than a land on a construction site, Can be visually photographed and recorded or analyzed. In this study, the unmanned aerial photographs were taken at least three times and the USN sensors were simultaneously operated on the main structure at the time of shooting, The goal of this research was to make the image information and environmental information of the construction site available for efficient construction management by matching. As a result, not only professional engineers at construction sites but also administrative managers can visually confirm the detailed situation of the site at the time of the construction site and the completion status, and can help decision making in appropriate budget input and appropriate resource support The experts in each field discussed the safety management of the construction site, the prevention of disaster and various factors of change which can be changed by natural environment factors.
