  • In recent years, the repairing work of the small boats in dock have pointed out a defects of the many FRP shipbuiling because of a term of works and working-space and man-power. In the paper, By carried out the model tests and structure analysis of the floating dock were mainly drawing on the concept design of the floating dock systems that the above defects were solved.

A Study on Atmospheric Dispersion Pattern of Ship Emissions - Focusing on Port of Busan (선박 배기가스의 대기확산 패턴에 관한 연구 - 부산항을 중심으로)

  • Busan Port handles more than 75% of the domestic freight volume and is ranked at 6th for global shipping in the world. This paper aims to estimate ship emission in North Port that is the center of Busan Port and located near the residential area. The emission for each type of ship is calculated applying a emission model proposed by U.S. EPA and the atmospheric diffusion pattern of the exhaust gas according to the season, the weather condition and the time was identified using CALPUFF Model. As a result, the major pollutants of $NO_x$, $SO_x$ and PM10 were 30,853 tons, 36,281 tons and 6,856 tons, respectively, and the highest rate was 42% in oil tankers. On clear days, air pollution was stagnant around the harbor, spread widely on windy days, and tended to be thinner on rainy days. The research contributes to recognizing the seriousness of air pollution and can be used as basic data for policy making in the future.

  • In Designing a Small Ship, the Design of the Trim for Sailing has a great influence on the Stability of the Ship as well as Resistance. The Center of Gravity of a Ship is mostly determined during Initial Design. This Study confirms the Effect of Trim on changes in Vertical Center of Gravity by Numerical Analysis for a Small Catamaran. The Results were examined in a Model test. However, No Model tests were conducted while varying the changes in Vertical Center of Gravity. Nonetheless, Investigation was completed for the Purpose of presenting Vertical Center of Gravity results according to plans for the Trim during Initial Design of a Small Ship. In order to verify the Results of Numerical Analysis, a Comparison with Experimental results was carried out. Alternation of Trim angle and Resistance performance according to changes in the Center of Gravity were studied.

  • VTS에서 정보제공실적은 대내 외적으로 많이 활용되며, VTS 성과평가 자료로 중요하게 활용되고 있다. 지금까지 VTS에서 산정되는 정보제공 실적은 대부분 관제사가 관제업무 중 정보제공 발생시 관제일지에 수기로 기록하고 있으나, 선박관제 및 선박모니터링, PORT-MIS 등 여러 업무를 수행하고 있는 관제사가 정보제공 실적을 일일이 기록하는데 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 객관적인 정보제공 실적 산출을 위해 VHF 음성 자료 및 선박간 조우데이터를 분석하여 선박교통데이터 기반의 선박 안전정보 제공 회귀모형식을 도출하고자 한다.

A Study on The Investment of The Secondhand BulkShip Using Real Option Model (실물옵션을 활용한 중고선박 가치평가연구)

  • Shipping companies earn profits through cargo transportation, and therefore, investment decisions to purchase ships are more important than anything else. Nevertheless, the cash flow discount method was mainly used in the economic analysis method, which assumes that all situations are static. This study shows that the real option model is useful in the economic analysis of ship investment. This economic analysis took into account the irreversibility of investment and uncertainty of benefits. In particular, this study used a binary option price determination model among real options. In addition, the simulation was conducted using actual investment data of A shipping company. As a result of the analysis, the investment value of used ships according to the net present value method was analyzed as negative (-), but the investment value in the real option model reflecting the flexibility of decision-making was evaluated as having positive (+) economic feasibility. It was analyzed that economic feasibility is affected by profit volatility and discount rate. Therefore, this study is expected to help shipping companies make more flexible decisions by using the real option model along with the existing net present value method when making ship investment decisions.

Analysis of Shipping Markets Using VAR and VECM Models (VAR과 VECM 모형을 이용한 해운시장 분석)

  • This study analyzes the dynamic characteristics of cargo volume (demand), ship fleet (supply), and freight rate (price) of container, dry bulk, and tanker shipping markets by using the VAR and VECM models. This analysis is expected to enhance the statistical understanding of market dynamics, which is perceived by the actual experiences of market participants. The common statistical patterns, which are all shown in the three shipping markets, are as follows: 1) The Granger-causality test reveals that the past increase of fleet variable induces the present decrease of freight rate variable. 2) The impulse-response analysis shows that cargo shock increases the freight rate but fleet shock decreases the freight rate. 3) Among the three cargo, fleet, and freight rate shocks, the freight rate shock is overwhelmingly largest. 4) The comparison of adjR2 reveals that the fleet variable is most explained by the endogenous variables, i.e., cargo, fleet, and freight rate in each of shipping markets. 5) The estimation of co-integrating vectors shows that the increase of cargo increases the freight rate but the increase of fleet decreases the freight rate. 6) The estimation of adjustment speed demonstrates that the past-period positive deviation from the long-run equilibrium freight rate induces the decrease of present freight rate.

Effects of Opening Condition of the Fore Body on the Resistance and Self-Propulsion Performance of a Ship (일반상선의 선수 개구부가 저항 및 자항성능에 미치는 영향)

  • LNG-RV has the additional equipments that enable to re-gastify liquefied LNG in LNG carrier. This vessel has Submerged Turret Loading(STL) system which transports gas through submarine terminal. When LNG-RV is operating at sea, the opening condition is formed by detaching STL equipment from a vessel. The primary objective of the current work is to estimate accurate speed loss for the opening condition of the LNG-RV employing numerical calculations and model tests. In the model tests, resistance and self-propulsion tests are carried out for the bare-hull and the opening condition without STL. In addition to these, flow visualization utilizing tuft is used to make the flow patterns visible, in order to get a qualitative or quantitative information for inner part in case of detaching the STL.

Prediction of Maneuverability of a Ship in the Initial Design Stage (초기설계시(初期設計時) 선박(船舶)의 조종성능(操縱性能) 추정(推定)에 관한 연구)

  • The assessment of maneuverability of a ship is very important from the view point of safety of human beings and of pollution of ocean. And, it is quite natural that every ship yard wants to have some tools with which they can build a ship with good maneuverability. But, maneuvarability of a ship is very subtle problem, and to calculate the exact maneuvering motion, lots of captive model tests must be carried out. Futhermore, in the initial design stage we can not make the scale model, because the lines of a ship is not fixed. In this paper, some approximate method to calculate the maneuvering motion of a ship, with the principal dimensions of hull, and propeller, rudder characteristics only, is studied. And, proposed approximate method is used to calculate the turning and zig-zag maneuver of several ships. The results of those calculations and the usability of the method are discussed.

  • In spite of today's rapid growth of world cruise industry, little academic attention has yet been given to the decision making problems for cruise operations. This research deals with strategic cruise itinerary planning that any cruise company should face. Increasing demands for international itineraries and redeployments of cruise ships are adding complexity to the itinerary planning. A slight modification of the conventional PERT/CPM network is adopted. to cope with this complexity systematically. By this, the concept of candidate itinerary network is suggested for each cruise ship. To integrate these candidate itinerary networks for each ship in a single framework, an integer programming model has been developed to find the optimal itinerary planning for any fleet of cruise ships. A numerical example, based on real cruise itinerary practices, is tested to validate and interpret the model.

Maneuvering Performances of a Ship with Flap Rudder (Flap 타를 채택한 선박의 조종성능 특성)

  • In this paper, we studied the maneuvering performances of a ship with flapped rudder. PMM tests were carried out for a ship model with horn type rudder or flapped rudder. The Abkowitz's model was used as a basic mathematical model to simulate the maneuvering motions. The maneuvering motions of a ship with flapped rudder were compared with those of a ship with horn-type rudder. As a result, it was found that the turning ability of a ship with flapped rudder was remarkably improved.
