  • Particle filter algorithm has been proven very successful for non-linear and non-Gaussian estimation problem and thus it has been widely used for object tracking for video signals. If the object moves significantly, particle filter needs very large number of particles to track object and this results high computational cost. In this paper, modified particle filter by adopting motion vector is proposed for tracking vehicle in low frame rate(LPR) video input, which the object moving significantly and randomly between consecutive frames. In the proposed algorithm, motion vector is applied in selection and observe step. The experimental result shows that the proposed particle filter can track vehicle successfully in the case when previous one fails. And it also shows the propose method increases the precision of tracking.

  • In this paper, we design directional search pattern using motion direction biased characteristics of MVP distribution, and proposes a direction applied cross diamond search method that adaptively change search pattern according to moving direction of search point. Proposed method predict motion vectors from neighbor macro blocks, and define initial motion direction by using predicted motion vectors. It improve search efficiency by using alternately proposed search pattern according to motion direction of BMP in search process. The simulation results show that proposed method is able to fast motion estimation compared with conventional cross diamond search, according as it reduce computational complexity that is required of motion estimation with $0.43%{\sim}1.76%$.

  • We present an efficient algorithm for rendering sweep surfaces using programmable graphics hardware. A sweep surface can be represented by a cross-section curve undergoing a spline motion. This representation has a simple matrix-vector multiplication structure that can easily be adapted to programmable graphics hardware. The data for the motion and cross-section curves are stored in texture memory. The vertex processor considers a pair of surface parameters as a vertex and evaluates its coordinates and normal vector with a single matrix multiplication. Using the GPU in this way is between 10 and 40 times as fast as CPU-based rendering.

  • The research about Intelligence Transport Systems(ITS) is actively studied for the traffic problem solution recently. Also, the various methods to detect vehicles moving in the roads are studied. This research using image processing technology is to give the drivers the road information quickly by developing Vehicle Detection System that detects through traffics. Purpose or this research is developing efficient algorithm to facilitate hardware composition. We use morphology method to extract corner points in the images captured by CCD camera. Also, the proposed algorithm detects vehicle's moving area by using motion vectors between corner points. The experiments of the proposed algorithm whose processing time was shortened show good results in vehicle detection on the live road images.

  • The previous video structuring techniques are mainly limited to shot or shot group level. However, the shot level structure couldn't provide semantics within a video. So, researches on high level structuring are going on for getting over the drawbacks of shot level structure, recently. To overcome the drawbacks of shot level structure, we propose video scene segmentation technique based on color and motion features. For considering various color distribution, each shot is divided into sub-shots based on color feature. A key frame is extracted from each sub-shot. The motion feature in a shot is extracted from MPEG-1 video's motion vector. Moreover adaptive weights based on motion's property in search range are applied to color and motion features. The experiment results of proposed technique show the excellence in view of the over-segmentation and the reflection of semantics, comparing with those of previous techniques. The proposed technique decomposes video into meaningful hierarchical structure and provides video browsing or retrieval based on scene.

  • Recently there have been many interests on tangible sport games that can recognize the motions of players. In this paper, we propose essential technologies required for tangible games, which are methods for swing motion recognition and the calculation of shuttle cock's trajectory. When a user carries out a badminton swing while holding a smartphone with his hand, the motion signal generated by smartphone-embedded acceleration sensors is transformed into a feature vector through a Daubechies filter, and then its swing type is recognized using a k-NN based method. The method for swing motion presented herein provides an advantage in a way that a player can enjoy tangible games without purchasing a commercial motion controller. Since a badminton shuttle cock has a particular flight trajectory due to the nature of its shape, it is not easy to calculate the trajectory of the shuttle cock using simple physics rules about force and velocity. In this paper, we propose a method for calculating the flight trajectory of a badminton shuttle cock in which the wind effect is considered.

  • This paper describes method to distribute much high-dimensional facial expression motion data to 2 dimensional space, and method to create facial expression animation by select expressions that want by realtime as animator navigates this space. In this paper composed expression space using about 2400 facial expression frames. The creation of facial space is ended by decision of shortest distance between any two expressions. The expression space as manifold space expresses approximately distance between two points as following. After define expression state vector that express state of each expression using distance matrix which represent distance between any markers, if two expression adjoin, regard this as approximate about shortest distance between two expressions. So, if adjacency distance is decided between adjacency expressions, connect these adjacency distances and yield shortest distance between any two expression states, use Floyd algorithm for this. To materialize expression space that is high-dimensional space, project on 2 dimensions using Sammon's Mapping. Facial animation create by realtime with animators navigating 2 dimensional space using user interface.

  • We present an experimental framework to analyze the physical reactions and causal factors of Visually Induced Motion Sickness (VIMS) using electroencephalography (EEG) signals and vital signs. We studied eleven subjects who are voluntarily participated in the experiments and conducted online and offline surveys. In order to simulate videos including global motions that could cause the motion sickness, we extracted global motions by optical flow estimation method from hand-held captured video recordings containing intense motions. Then, we applied the extracted global motions to our test videos with action movies and texts. Each genre of video includes three levels of different motions depending on its intensity. EEG signal and vital sign that were measured by a portable electrocorticography device and an electronic monometer in real time while the subjects watch the videos including ones with the extracted motions. We perform an analysis of the EEG signals using Distance Map(DM) calculated by correlation among each channel of brain signal. Analysis using the vital signs and the survey results is also performed to obtain relationship between the VIMS and causal factors. As a result, we clustered subjects into three groups based on the analysis of the physical reaction using the DM and the correlation between vital sign and survey results, which shows high relationships between the VIMS and the intensity of motions.

  • We propose a block motion estimation algorithm based on a statistical image feature for video sequences. The statistical feature of the reference block is obtained, then applied to select the candidate starting points (SPs) in the regular starting points pattern (SPP) by comparing the statistical feature of reference block with that of blocks which are spread ower regular SPP. The final SPs are obtained by their Mean Absolute Difference(MAD) value among the candidate SPs. Finally, one of conventional fast search algorithms, such as BRGDS, DS, and three-step search (TSS), has been applied to generate the motion vector of reference block using the final SPs as its starting points. The experimental results showed that the starting points from fine SPs were as dose as to the global minimum as we expected.

  • This paper presents a new moving object segmentation algorithm using markov random field. The algorithm is based on signal detection theory. That is to say, motion of moving object is decided by binary decision rule, and false decision is corrected by markov random field model. The procedure toward complete segmentation consists of two steps: motion detection and object segmentation. First, motion detection decides the presence of motion on velocity vector by binary decision rule. And velocity vector is generated by optical flow. Second, object segmentation cancels noise by Bayes rule. Experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the presented method.
