Development Trends of Mobile Augmented Reality Game Platform and User Interface (모바일 증강 현실 게임 플랫폼 및 UI 기술 개발 동향)

  • This year, global IT companies such as Google, Apple, and Facebook launched a mobile augmented reality platform. Existing augmented reality technology required a special device such as AR glass or tango phone, but now it will be easy to experience augmented reality in general Android phone and iPhone. The mobile augmented reality game market, which has been attracting interest since the Pokemon game, is expected to become more active. In this article, we introduce augmented reality platforms technology for mobile augmented reality game and mobile augmented reality games including ETRI prototype centered on user interface.

  • This essay analyzes space in augmented reality games, and attempts to offer space analytic standards of mobile augmented reality games in regards to space in existing games. This article proposes categorizing criteria based on the following factors: Analysis of space in existing games, Jason Jerald's Three Virtual Space Horizon Categories, interaction between virtual world and real world, and Lavroff's Three deciding factors of reality perception in virtual reality. It is meaningful that the analysis criteria of the Augmented Reality game space is presented through this analysis.

Real Object Recognition Based Mobile Augmented Reality Game (현실 객체 인식 기반 모바일 증강현실 게임)

  • This paper describes the general process of making augmented reality game for real objects without markers. In this paper, point cloud data created by using slam technology is edited using a separate editing tool to optimize performance in mobile environment. Also, in the game execution stage, a lot of load is generated due to the extraction of feature points and the matching of descriptors. In order to reduce this, optical flow is used to track the matched feature points in the previous input image.

The effects of attitude toward characters, social interaction, competition, physical activity, and attention switching on user's attachment to a mobile augmented reality game (캐릭터에 대한 태도, 대인 교류, 경쟁심, 신체 활동과 주의 전환이 모바일 증강 현실 게임 사용자의 애착에 미치는 영향)

  • Many users enjoy a location-based augmented reality game such as Pokémon GO. From the perspective of attachment, this paper investigated the antecedents of Pokémon GO use. A total of 182 responses from Pokemon Go users was collected through an online survey. The result of regression analysis showed that attitude toward game characters, social interaction, competition, and physical activity increased attachment to game. Attention switching, however, decreased attachment to the game. This study suggested that attachment to mobile augmented games could be achieved through social interaction, competition, and physical activity. Implications for researchers and practitioners were discussed.

  • In recent, mobile augmented reality game which has been attracting high attention is considered to be an good approach to increase immersion. In conventional augmented reality-based games that recognize target objects using a mobile camera and show the matching game characters, touch-based interaction is mainly used. In this paper, we propose an intuitive interaction method which manipulates a deformable game object by moving a target image of augmented reality in order to enhacne the immersion of the game. In the proposed method, the deformable object is intuitively manipulated by calculating the distance and direction between the target images and by adjusting the external force applied to the deformable object using them. In this paper, we focus on the cloth deformable object which is widely used for natural object animation in game contents and implement natural cloth simulation interacting with game objects represented by wind and rigid objects. In the experiments, we compare the previous commercial cloth model with the proposed method and show the proposed method can represent cloth animation more realistically.

  • 모바일 증강현실 시장은 시장조사업체 카운터포인트리서치가 2021년까지 70조원 규모를 성장을 예측한 것을 비롯하여 많은 자료를 통해 큰 성장을 예고하고 있다. 이러한 증강현실은 현재 더 정교한 증강현실을 위해 디바이스에서 습득한 실제 환경정보를 사용하여 마커 없이도 증강현실을 구현하는 기술을 통해 성장하고있다. 그러므로 성장하는 증강현실시장에 대응하기 위해서는 3D환경을 사용하는 증강현실 기술을 습득할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 탱고기술을 탑재한 기기를 이용하여 3D환경을 습득하고 유니티3D 게임 엔진과 탱고 SDK를 사용하여 카메라 이미지와 3D그래픽이 융합된 자연스러운 증강현실을 구축하는 게임 개발에 대해 설명한다.

  • 문화유산이 많은 지역의 경우 관광산업이 지역경제에서 차지하는 비중이 크기 때문에 문화유산을 활용한 지역관광 활성화가 중요한 이슈 중 하나이다. 본 논문은 관광객 유도를 위해 문화유산을 활용한 체험형 콘텐츠를 제공하여 관광 경험을 향상할 필요가 있어 모바일 증강현실을 기반으로 한 역사탐방 게임 플랫폼을 제안한다. 제안하는 플랫폼은 고대 백제의 왕도였던 부여를 배경으로 증강현실로 구현된 역사 속 인물과 만나며 문제를 해결해나가는 방식의 게임 플랫폼으로, 관광객에게 디지털 경험을 제공하여 문화유산의 가치 재발견과 지역관광 활성화를 꾀하고자 한다.

The Effects of Game Properties and Gratifications on Continuance Intention of Location-Based Augmented Reality Game (게임 속성과 충족 변수가 위치 기반 증강현실 게임의 지속 사용 의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Since the launch of Pokémon GO in 2016, the game has been loved for many users. Although the number of Pokémon GO users has declined, lots of users still enjoy the location-based augmented reality game. From the perspective of game properties and Use & Gratifications theory, this paper investigated the antecedents of continuance intention of Pokémon GO. A total of 258 responses from Pokémon Go users was collected by an online survey. The result of regression analysis showed that attitude toward game characters, attitude toward random game elements, social interaction, competition, and physical activity increased continuance intention. Perceived cost, however, decreased continuance intention. Implications for researchers and practitioners were discussed.

  • 스마트폰의 도입으로 인하여 증강현실이 널리 알려짐에 따라 대중들의 관심은 이에 집중되고 있으며 휴대성으로 인하여 모바일기기에서의 증강현실 연구가 하나의 흐름으로 자리 잡고 있다. 기존의 증강현실과 인공지능이 결합된 연구들은 주로 로봇공학이 많은 비율을 차지하고 있으며 게임에 접목된 연구들은 부족한 실정이다. 또한 인공지능이 적용된 에이전트들의 움직임을 위한 데이터들은 아직까지 사용자가 직접 입력해주거나 이를 인식하는데 마커를 사용하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 마커리스 추적 기술을 사용하여 생성한 데이터를 인공지능부분에서 사용하며 증강현실 기반의 인공지능이 적용된 에이전트를 위한 게임 시스템을 제안한다. 그리고 이를 아이폰 모바일 기기에서 구현하였으며 인식율, 정확도를 측정하여 본 시스템을 검증하였다.

  • The mobile game environment is rapidly expanding with AR (augmented reality) technology along with artificial intelligence. In particular, AR (Augmented Reality) technology is a field of VR (Virtual Reality), which is a technology that shows a mixture of virtual information and images in a real environment. Recently, research on mobile UI design based on the interaction based on the augmented reality technology has become important at the point when various utilization methods are suggested based on understanding of contents. There are still some issues in terms of whether the consumer can utilize it in various ways, unlike the developed supply system. In this paper, we present an example of mobile UI design based on interaction based on smart media augmented reality through previous study and literature study of smart augmented reality to solve problem UI issues based on background theory.
