The member deflection is one of the most important considerations for the serviceability evaluation of reinforced concrete (RC) structures, and the concept of the effective moment of inertia has been generally used for its estimation. However, the actual service load applied on an existing RC beam may not be easily obtained, for which the estimation of beam deflection by existing methods can be difficult to obtain. Therefore, based on the correlation between cracks and deflection in a RC beam, this study proposed a method to estimate the deflection of RC beams directly from the condition of cracks not using the actual loads acting on the member as its input data. The proposed method extensively utilized the relationships among sums of crack widths, average strains, and curvatures, and modification factors obtained from regression analysis were also introduced to improve its accuracy. The deflections of members were successfully estimated by the proposed method independent from applied loads, which was also easy to apply compared to the existing methods based on the effective moment of inertia.

Flexural test of reinforced concrete beam with corroded reinforcement were performed to measure the deflection, curvature and cracking moment for various bar diameter and amounts of corrosion. The amounts of corrosion are varied from 0% to 10% by weight and the bar diameters are chosen as 10mm, 13mm, and 19mm. The changes in reinforcement diameter do not affect the flexural behaviors significantly according to this experiment. If the amounts of corrosion is greater than 2%, the deflection and curvature of the beam increased and the cracking moment decreased. It means that the lower amounts of corrosion does not result structural damage in flexural member significantly as in direct tensile test. A modification factor considering an effect of amounts of corrosion is proposed based on the experiment, which can be used to determine the deflection of reinforced concrete beam with corroded reinforcement.

Moment Magnifier Method has been generally used in estimation of total column moment induced by geometric nonlinearity for reinforced concrete slender column design, however second order analysis such as P-${\Delta}$ method has been recommended by Code for better result. Member stiffness estimation is the most significant factor for accuracy of second order analysis. Equivalent Column stiffness based on theoretically obtained moment-curvature-thrust relationship has been proposed and the analytical results of the proposed method, MacGregor-Hage Method, Furlong's Method, and Moment Magnifier Method are compared with experimentally obtained data.
In this study, the effects of the inelastic shear behavior of beam-column joint and the vertical distribution of lateral load are evaluated considering higher modes on the response of RC OMRF using the pushover analysis. A structure used for the analysis was a 5-story structure located at site class SB and seismic design category C, which was designed in accordance with KBC2009. Bending moment-curvature relationship for beam and column was identified using fiber model. Also, bending moment-rotation relationship for beam-column joint was calculated using simple and unified joint shear behavior model and moment equilibrium relationship for the joint. The results of pushover analysis showed that, although the rigid beam-column joint overestimated the stiffness and strength of the structure, the inelastic shear behavior of beam-column joint could be neglected in the process of structural design since the average response modification factor satisfied the criteria of KBC2009 for RC OMRF independent to inelastic behavior of joint.

The high strength materials have been more widely used in a large reinforced concrete structures. It is known that the use of high strength material in RC structures give the benefits of the mechanical and durable properties, but the ductility decreases with an increase in the strength of the materials. In the design of a reinforced concrete beam, both the flexural strength and ductility need to be considered. So, it is necessary to assess accurately the ductility of the beam with high strength materials in order to ensure the ductility requirement in design. In this study, the effects of the material strength on the flexural behavior and curvature ductility factor of reinforcement concrete beam sections with various reinforcement conditions have been evaluated and a newly prediction formula for curvature ductility factor of RC beam has been developed considering the stress of compression reinforcement at ultimate state. The proposed predictions for the curvature ductility factor which is applicable to both singly and doubly reinforced concrete beam are verified by comparisons with other prediction formulas and the proposed formula offers fairly accurate within 9% error and consistent predictions for curvature ductility factor of reinforced concrete beam.

The objective of this study is to assess the strengthening effects of fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) sheets such as Carbon fiber, Glass fiber, and PET(polyethylene terephthalate) on reinforced concrete flexural members. Variables of theoretical analysis are types of strengthening materials, material properties and amount of strengthening materials. A virtual flexural member without FRP sheets was created as a control specimen to understand the structural behavior of the non-strengthened specimen in terms of elastic and ultimate cross section. In total, 11 specimens including one non-strengthened and ten strengthened specimens were investigated. Various variables such as types of strengthening, strengthening properties, and amount of strengthening were studied to compare the behavior of the control specimen with those of strengthened specimens with regard to moment-curvature relationship. Results of theoretical analysis showed that the moment capacity of strengthened specimens was superior to that of the control specimen. However, the control specimen indicated the best ductility among all the specimens. As the amount of strengthening increased, flexural performance was improved. Furthermore, the results indicated that the ductile effect of members was affected by the ultimate strain of FRP sheets. The strengthening effect on the damaged member was similar to that on the non-damaged one since there was less than 10% difference in terms of flexural strength and ductility. Therefore, even if a damaged member is treated as non-damaged for analysis there is probably no noticeable difference.

In this study, the response modification factor for a RC IMRF is evaluated via pushover analysis, where 5-story structures were designed in accordance with KBC2009. The bending moment-curvature relationship for beams and columns was identified with a fiber model, and the bending moment-rotation relationship for beam-column joints was calculated using a simple and unified joint shear behavior model and the moment equilibrium relationship for the joint. The results of the pushover analysis showed that the strength of the structure was overestimated with negligence of the inelastic shear behavior of the beam-column joint, and that the average response modification factor for category C was 7.78 and the factor for category D was 3.64.

The object of this study is to propose the bending moment-curvature relationships based on the bond properties between concrete and steel for noncraking zone, and evaluate the flexural displacement of reinforced concrete members. The bond-slip relationship and the strain hardening effect of steel were taken into account in order to evaluate the spacing of the cracks and the curvature distribution. Calculated curvature distribution along the longitudinal axis was transformed into equivalent curvature distribution. The flexural displacement was calculated by means of double intergral of the equivalent curvature. Calculated values are in good agreement with the experimental data.
A curved member should resist bending and torsional moments simultaneously even though the primary load is usually supposed to be gravitational load. The torsional moment causes complicate stress state and also can result in early yielding of material to reduce member strength. According to analysis results, the strength of a curved member that has 45 degrees of subtended angle could decrease more than 50% compare to straight girder. Nevertheless, there have been very few of researches related with ultimate strength of curved girders. In this study, various kinds of stiffness about bending, pure torsion and warping were considered with a number of models in order to verify the main factor that affects ultimate behavior of curved girder. Lateral and rotational displacement of curved member were introduced as lateral-torsional-vertical behavior and bending-torsional moment interaction curve was derived. Finally, a strength equation for ultimate moment of horizontally curved steel I-girders subjected to equal end moments based on the interaction curves. The equation could take account of the effect of curvature, unbraced length and sectional properties.
