Seismic tomography has been widely used as high resolution subsurface imaging techniques in engineering applications. Although most of the techniques have been using travel time inversion, waveform method is being driven forward owing to the progress of computational environments. Although full-waveform inversion method has been known as the best method in terms of model resolving power without high-frequency restriction and weak scattering approximation, it has practical disadvantage that it is apt to get stuck in local minimum if the initial guess is far from the actual model and it consumes so much time to calculate. In this study, 2-D full-waveform inversion algorithm in acoustic medium is developed, which uses result of traveltime tomography as initial model. From the application on synthetic data, it is proved that this approach can efficiently reduce the problem of conventional approaches: our algorithm shows much faster convergence rate and improvement of model resolution. Result of application on physical modeling data also shows much improvement. It is expected that this algorithm can be applicable to real data.
With the recent global and domestic development of Earth observation satellites, the applications of satellite images have been widened. Research for improving the geometric accuracy of satellite images is being actively carried out. This paper studies the possibility of automated ground control point (GCP) generation for CAS-4 satellite, to be launched in 2025 with the capability of image acquisition at 5 m ground sampling distance (GSD). In particular, this paper focuses to check whether GCP chips with 25 cm GSD established for CAS-1 satellite images can be used for CAS-4 and to check whether optimalspatial resolution for matching between CAS-4 images and GCP chips can be determined to improve matching performance. Experiments were carried out using RapidEye images, which have similar GSD to CAS-4. Original satellite images were upsampled to make satellite images with smaller GSDs. At each GSD level, up-sampled satellite images were matched against GCP chips and precision sensor models were estimated. Results shows that the accuracy of sensor models were improved with images atsmaller GSD compared to the sensor model accuracy established with original images. At 1.25~1.67 m GSD, the accuracy of about 2.4 m was achieved. This finding lead that the possibility of automated GCP extraction and precision ortho-image generation for CAS-4 with improved accuracy.
This article critically reviews the arguments that deny the financial feasbility and effectiveness of universal basic income as an alternative to existing social security systems and makes some suggestions to design effective and efficient basic income schemes. Regarding the financial feasibility of universal basic income, I argue that replacement of the existing regressive tax expenditures with universal basic income without raising tax rates can effectively reduce tax burden or provide income support to a majority of people except the rich. Addition of basic income to the tax base and reduction of the number of beneficiaries of public assistance and the amount of cash payment for them can further help save money. Regarding the redistributive effect, I note that the targeting ability of the existing social security systems is not good and that "the paradox of redistribution" that universal-type programs tend to be more redistributive than selective programs applies to universal basic income as well. I demonstrate significant redistributive effect of a hypothetical revenue-neutral basic income scheme and reviews several empirical studies done in Korea and abroad to show that basic income can be more effective in redistribution than social insurances or public assistance programs. Lastly, I emphasize the need to construct a reliable tax-benefit microsimulation model to help researchers to study redistributive effects of basic income schemes and other taxes and social policies.
The design requirements of modern satellites vary depending on the purpose of operation. Like conventional medium and large-scale satellites, small satellites which operate on low orbit may also serve military purposes. As a result, there is increased demand for high-resolution photos and videos and multi-target observation becomes important. The most important design parameter for multi-target observation is the satellites' maneuverability. For increased maneuverability, the miniaturization is required to increase the stiffness of the satellite as this decreases the mass moment of inertia of the satellite. In the case of a solar panel having relatively low stiffness compared to the satellites' body, vibrations are generated when the attitude maneuver is performed, which greatly influences the image acquisition. For verification of such vibrational characteristics, the satellites is modeled as a reduced model, and experimental zig for simulating attitude maneuver is introduced. A rigidity simulator for simulating the stiffness of the satellite is also proposed. Additionally, the objective of the experimental method is to simulate the maneuvering angle of the satellite based on the winding length of the wire using a step motor, and to experimentally verify the vibration characteristics of the satellite body and the solar panel generated during the maneuvering test.

Tunnel construction by TBMs should be supported by the performance of a screw conveyor in order to obtain the optimum penetration rate, so studies related to the screw conveyor performance have been being conducted. Compared to the study on the performance of the screw conveyor for the soil, however, the research on the performance of the screw conveyor for the rock is insufficient. Considering the domestic tunnel sites with more rock layers than soil layers, simulation of discharge of 6 types of rock chips by the screw conveyor was conducted using DEM. Regardless of the shape and volume of the rock chips, the discharge rates of the rock chips by the parallel placed screw conveyor at a speed of 10 RPM in the same rock mass were about 20% (standard deviation: 1.3%) of the maximum volume of discharge rate by the screw conveyor. It is expected that this study can be used as a reference material for screw conveyor design and operation in TBM excavations in rock masses.

It is difficult to design because of the plug-holing phenomenon in which the amount of smoke discharged from the vertical vent is smaller than the designed amount of smoke. In this study, the effect of cross-sectional area ratio of tunnel and natural ventilation and heat release rate of fire source on plug-holing phenomenon occurring in natural ventilation system was experimentally analyzed. In the experiment model reduced to 1/20 size, the aspect ratio of the tunnel and the vertical vent was fixed, and the influence on the plug-holing phenomenon was confirmed by varying the sectional area ratio of the tunnel and the vertical vent. Experimental results show that the plug-holing phenomenon is caused by the comparison of the smoke boundary layer temperature with the temperature in the vertical vents, and the flow and temperature distribution characteristics under the vertical vents are changed as the cross-sectional area ratio of the tunnel and vertical vents increases. The plug-holing phenomenon is affected by the cross-sectional area ratio between the tunnel and the vertical ventilation. The greater the cross-sectional area ratio, the greater the probability of plug-holing.
Interest in the origin of the universe and man has historically been one of the central themes of human inquiry. The question of origin is not just a matter of intellectual curiosity, but a matter of human identity and an important matter of human destiny. The traditional model presented in relation to the origin of man is largely the Christian creationism that all things originated from the Creator, the evolutionary theory that everything happened by chance and evolved from lower to higher animals, and the agnosticism that we cannot know anything about the origin. This study deals with the theory of theistic evolution, a combination of creationism and evolutionism. It is argued that the theory of the evolutionary origin was not an immediate creation, although all things originated from God, but through creation through a long evolutionary process. The theory of theistic evolution was proposed by combining two conflicting theories of origin in a Christian way, which has several essential problems, but this study pointed out two. First, the God of the Bible is reduced to the image of being confined to the laws of nature, not the Almighty Creator. Second, by interpreting the events of the Bible symbolically, it results in rejection of historicity. Therefore, it is more rational to choose either evolutionism or creationism rather than the theory of theistic evolution.
The Entry-Descent-Landing process of a lander involves many environmental and technical challenges. To solve these problems, recently, terrestrial relative navigation (TRN) technology has been essential for landers. TRN is a technology for estimating the position and attitude of a lander by comparing Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) data and image data collected from a descending lander with pre-built reference data. In this paper, we present a method for generating descent dataset and extracting landmarks, which are key elements for developing TRN technologies to be used on Mars. The proposed method generates IMU data of a descending lander using a simulated Mars landing trajectory and generates descent images from high-resolution ortho-map and digital elevation map through a ray tracing technique. Landmark extraction is performed by an area-based extraction method due to the low-textured surfaces on Mars. In addition, search area reduction is carried out to improve matching accuracy and speed. The performance evaluation result for the descent dataset generation method showed that the proposed method can generate images that satisfy the imaging geometry. The performance evaluation result for the landmark extraction method showed that the proposed method ensures several meters of positioning accuracy while ensuring processing speed as fast as the feature-based methods.
Analog-based streamers for ultra-high-resolution seismic surveys are capable of additional noise ingress in water, but the specifications cannot be expanded through interconnections. Foreign-produced digital streamers have been introduced and used primarily at domestic research institutes; however, the cost is high and smooth maintenance is challenging. This study investigates the localization of ultra-high-resolution digital streamers capable of high-resolution imaging of a geological structure. A digital streamer capable of 24-bit, 10 kHz digital sampling of up to 64 channel data was developed through research and development. Various quantitative specifications of the system were designed and developed close to the benchmark model, Geometrics' GeoEel streamer, and the number of modules that make up the system was drastically reduced, reducing development costs and making it easier to use. The field applicability of the developed streamer system was evaluated in an in situ experiment conducted in the waters around the Port of Yeong-il Bay in Pohang in April 2022.

In this study, prompt engineering that improves prompts was explored to improve the performance of teaching and learning materials recommendations using generative artificial intelligence such as GPT and Stable Diffusion. Picture materials were used as the types of teaching and learning materials. To explore the impact of the prompt composition, a Zero-Shot prompt, a prompt containing learning target grade information, a prompt containing learning goals, and a prompt containing both learning target grades and learning goals were designed to collect responses. The collected responses were embedded using Sentence Transformers, dimensionalized to t-SNE, and visualized, and then the relationship between prompts and responses was explored. In addition, each response was clustered using the k-means clustering algorithm, then the adjacent value of the widest cluster was selected as a representative value, imaged using Stable Diffusion, and evaluated by 30 elementary school teachers according to the criteria for evaluating teaching and learning materials. Thirty teachers judged that three of the four picture materials recommended were of educational value, and two of them could be used for actual classes. The prompt that recommended the most valuable picture material appeared as a prompt containing both the target grade and the learning goal.
