  • In this study, we examined the adaptive practices of science teachers in their classrooms and their perspectives on the distinguishing features of these practices within science subjects. Our analysis comprised 339 cases from 128 middle and high school science teachers nationwide, and 199 cases on the characteristics of adaptive practices in science disciplines. The primary findings were as follows: First, the most significant characteristic of adaptive practice in science disciplines pertained to experimental procedures. Within the 'suggestion of additional materials/activities' category, the most frequently cited adaptive practice, teachers incorporated demonstrations to either facilitate student comprehension or enhance motivation. Additionally, 'experimental equipment manipulation or presentation of inquiry skills' emerged as the second most common adaptive practice related to experiments. Notably, over 50% of teacher responses regarding the characteristics of adaptive practices in science pertained to experiment guidance. Second, many adaptive practices involving difficulties experienced by students in learning situations were presented, particularly in areas such as numeracy and literacy. Many cases were related to the basic ability of mathematics used as a tool in science learning and understanding scientific terms in Chinese characters. Third, beyond 'experiment guidance', the characteristic adaptive practices of science subjects were related to 'connections between scientific theory and the real world', 'misconception guidance in science', 'cultivation of scientific thinking', and 'convergence approaches'. Fourth, the cases of adaptive practice presented by the science teachers differed by school level and major; therefore, it is necessary to consider school level or major in future research related to adaptive practice. Fifth, most of the adaptive action items with a small number of cases were adaptive actions executed from a macroscopic perspective, so it is necessary to pay attention to related professionalism. Finally, based on the results of this study, the implications for science education were discussed.

  • This study was conducted to estimate the relationship between academic achievement, and college life adaptation of dental hygiene students in S area and use them as basic data for improving the effectiveness of academic and career guidance. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 245 dental hygiene students. Data collection was analyzed by frequency, chi-square test, t-test, regression using SPSS 21.0. As a result, The higher the grade, the academic achievement, the higher the adaptation to college life. The admission types was not statistically significant. By presenting the factors related to adaptation to college life in dental hygiene students. I think that it can help develop academic and career guidance related programs.

  • This study was undertaken to identify effects of the peer group reading program (PGRP) on the tenacity, self-resilience, and adaptation to university life of new entrants to the university. This was a non-equivalence control group quasi-experimental research study design. The subjects examined were entrants at the S University. The experimental group was provided the PGRP, and the control group was provided a general program for 13 weeks. The PGRP consisted of three or four students per group. Each group read one book for one week. Subsequently, all students gathered and presented their reading reports and discussed their comments, once a week. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test and t-test to compare the differences between both groups. A total of 73 subjects were included in the study: 34 in the experimental group and 39 in the control group. There were no significant differences in the general characteristics between the groups. Furthermore, no significant differences were observed between both groups before the intervention; however, the experimental group showed improved tenacity (p<0.01) and self-resilience (p=0.020) after the intervention, which were significantly different between both groups. Our results indicate the requirement to develop and apply various reading programs for improving the personality, self-resilience, and college life adaptability of university entrants.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the prevention program of child abuse and to verify the effects of the program for marriage immigrant women in Korea. The prevention program was consist of 5 sessions and it was provided to participants once a week for five weeks. Participants were recruited thru the community centers for multi-cultural families in Korea. This study verified the effects of the prevention program with the comparison groups(pre-post). With the independent-samples t-test and paired-samples t-test, the program verified significant effects on the variables of acculturation stress, social support, and recognition of social policy. This study suggests the parenting education of child abuse for multi-cultural families in Korea.

  • The present study aims to investigate the effects of bicultural characteristics and social capital on psychological adaptations such as depression and self-esteem. A survey was conducted on 295 foreign-born mothers and their 305 children, ranging from third to sixth grade in elementary school up to seventh to ninth grade in middle school, residing in South Korea's seven major cities, including the city of Seoul. The results of this research are the following: 1) With regards to factors that influence depression among children in a multicultural family, less support from a friend leads to a larger exposure to multicultural programs. Also, the lower the perceived income level of his or her family, greater is the state of the child's depression. 2) Significant factors that influence self-esteem for multicultural children are friends' support, level of mothers' Korean language proficiency, teachers' support, and numbers of multicultural programs. Two implications may be addressed from this study. One is the need to consider bicultural characteristics and social capital to enhance psychological adaptability for children raised in multicultural families. Another is to apply social support characteristics such as friends' and teachers' support to multicultural programs.

  • Most of elementary school students possess computers at home, and learn about ICT in their school. But the extreme use of computer games may have negative effects on students' learning and life style. In this research, we analyzed the current status of 5th and 6th graders' computer game addiction in Daejeon, ChoongchungNam-Do and ChoongchungBuk-Do areas. And we have also investigated the relationship of students' computer game addiction with their self control abilities and the abilities to adjust to their school life. As the results of the research, we discovered that 15.6% of respondents showed strong possibilities of computer game addiction. Boys, students living in rural areas and students with relatively low grade showed strong possibilities of game addiction. In addition, it was found that as students showed high scores in their self control abilities and the abilities to adjust to school life, they demonstrated less possibilities to be addicted to computer games.

  • In this paper, we propose a identity the effect of acculturative stress on life satisfaction with the mediating effect of self-esteem among marriage migrant women participating in Korean traditional dance. Participants of this study were marriage migrant women (experimental group: 28, control group: 30). Surveys that were taken before and after the 3 months of participation in Korean traditional dance were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Results indicated that acculturative stress had a positive influence on self-esteem and life satisfaction, and self-esteem mediated the effect of acculturative stress on life satisfaction among marriage migrant women who participated in Korean traditional dance. Therefore, this study confirmed that acculturative stress had a direct effect on self-esteem and life satisfaction and had an indirect effect on life satisfaction mediated by self-esteem among marriage migrant women who participated in Korean traditional dance.
