Submucosal Tumor Analysis of Endoscopic Ultrasonography Images (내시경 초음파 영상의 점막하 종양 분석)

  • Endoscopic ultrasonography is a medical procedure in endoscopy combined with ultrasound to obtain images of the internal organs. It is useful to have a predictive pathological manifestation since a doctor can observe tumors under mucosa. However, it is often subjective to judge the degree of malignant degeneration of tumors. Thus, in this paper, we propose a feature analysis procedure to make the pathological manifestation more objective so as to improve the accuracy and recall of the diagnosis. In the process, we extract the ultrasound region from the image obtained by endoscopic ultrasonography. It is necessary to standardize the intensity of this region with the intensity of water region as a base since frequently found small intensity difference is only to be inefficient in the analysis. Then, we analyze the spot region with high echo and calcium deposited region by applying LVQ algorithm and bit plane partitioning procedure to tumor regions selected by medical expert. For detailed analysis, features such as intensity value, intensity information included within two random points chosen by medical expert in tumor region, and the slant of outline of tumor region in order to decide the degree of malignant degeneration. Such procedure is proven to be helpful for medical experts in tumor analysis.

Obtaining 3-D Depth from a Monochrome Shaded Image (단시안 명암강도를 이용한 물체의 3차원 거리측정)

  • An iterative scheme for computing the three-dimensional position and the surface orientation of an opaque object from a singel shaded image is proposed. This method demonstrates that calculating the depth(distance) between the camera and the object from one shaded video image is possible. Most previous research works on $'Shape from Shading$' problem, even in the $'Photometric Stereo Method$', invoved the determination of surface orientation only. To measure the depth of an object, depth of the object, and the reflectance properties of the surface. Assuming that the object surface is uniform Lambertian the measured intensity level at a given image pixel*x,y0becomes a function of surface orientation and depth component of the object. Derived Image Irradiance Equation can`t be solved without further informations since three unknown variables(p,q and D) are in one nonlinear equation. As an additional constraints we assume that surface satisfy smoothness conditions. Then equation can be solved relaxatively using standard methods of TEX>$'Calculus of VariationTEX>$'. After checking the sensitivity of the algorithm to the errors ininput parameters, the theoretical results is tested by experiments. Three objects (plane, cylinder, and sphere)are used. Thees initial results are very encouraging since they match the theoretical calculations within 20$\%$ error in simple experiments.> error in simple experiments.

  • 본 논문에서는 저항 생산 과정에서 실제저항값과 칼라 코드값이 잘못 표기되는 경우에 이를 검사.인식하는 시스템에 이용할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 본 알고리즘에서는 칼라 영상에서의 효과적인 경계선 추출 방법과 칼라 영상의 명암도 변화 차이를 이용한 저항의 칼라 코드 영역 추출법, 그리고 역전파 알고리즘을 이용한 칼라 코드 판별법이 제시된다.

  • 본 논문에서는 블럽을 사용해서 다수의 자동차 후면의 번호판을 추출하는 방법을 제안한다. 입력 영상에서 번호판의 문자와 배경사이의 명암도 차이를 이용하여, 입력 영상의 모든 블럽을 찾고, 찾아낸 블럽을 둘러싸는 최소의 사각형들을 구한다. 이 사각형들 중에서 일련의 경향성을 갖는 블럽 그룹을 찾는다. 찾아난 블럽 그룹이 자동차 번호판인지 아닌지를 SVM을 이용하여 확인한다. 적응적 이진화를 제외한 전처리작업을 하지 않았음에도 불구하고 번호판 검출률은 매우 높았으며, 번호판을 검출하는데 걸리는 시간도 길지 않았다.

Improved Edge Enhanced Error Diffusion Halftoning Using Local Mean and Spatial Variation (국부 평균과 공간 변화량을 이용한 개선된 에지 강조 오차확산법)

  • The paper proposes the improved error diffusion halftoning system to enhance the edges using the spatial perceptual characteristics of the human visual system. The proposed method computes a spatial variation(SV), which is the difference between a pixel luminance and the average of its $3{\times}3$ neighborhood pixels' luminances weighted according to the spatial positioning. Information of edge enhancement(IEE) Is computed using the SV and the local average luminance. The IEE is added to the quantizer's input pixel and feeds into the halftoning quantizer. The quantizer produces the halftone image having the enhanced edge. The performance of the proposed method is compared with conventional methods by measuring the edge correlation. The halftone images by using the proposed method show better quality due to the enhanced edge. And the detailed edge is preserved in the halftone images by using the proposed method.

  • 본 논문에서는 복부 초음파 영상에서 Ends_in Search Stretching 기법을 적용하여 명암 대비를 강조한 후, 이진화, 영역 레이블링 기법, 잡음 제거를 통해 근막을 추출하고, 근막 영역의 하단 경계선을 기준으로 Cubic Spline 보간법을 적용하여 복부 근육의 근막 하단 영역을 추출한다. 복부 초음파 영상에서 추출된 근막 하단 영역을 이용하여 근막 영역을 제거한 후, 거리 기반 퍼지 ART 알고리즘을 적용하여 충수 후보 영역을 추출한 다. 추출된 충수 후보 영역에 침식 연산과 영역 레이블링 기법을 적용하여 충수를 추출한다. 제안된 방법을 복부 초음파 영상을 대상으로 실험한 결과, 기존의 충수 추출 방법보다 객관적이고 효율적으로 충수와 소장의 명암도 차이를 구별할 수 있어 충수 영역이 이전의 방법 보다 비교적 정확히 추출되는 것을 영상의학과 관련 전문의를 통해 확인하였다.

  • Segmentation for the region of nucleus in the image of uterine cervical cytodiagnosis is known as the most difficult and important part in the automatic cervical cancer recognition system. In this paper, the region of nucleus is extracted from an image of uterine cervical cytodiagnosis using the fuzzy grey morphology operation. The characteristics of the nucleus are extracted from the analysis of morphemetric features, densitometric features, colormetric features, and textural features based on the detected region of nucleus area. The classification criterion of a nucleus is defined according to the standard categories of the Bethesda system. The enhanced fuzzy ART algorithm is used to the extracted nucleus and the results show that the proposed method is efficient in nucleus recognition and uterine cervical Pap-Smears extraction.

Image Magnification using Fuzzy Method for Ultrasound Image of Abdominal Muscles (복부 초음파 영상에서의 퍼지 기법을 이용한 영상 확대)

  • Ultrasound images for the abdominal muscles are complicated enough to have difficulty in interpreting their results. For better interpretation, magnifying the original image is necessary but its magnified image could be deteriorated and suffer from information loss. Thus, in this paper, we propose a magnifying method that reduces the gap between the original image and the magnified one in quality using a fuzzy method with weights for its brightness and interpolation. The proposed method extracts information of pixels in magnified image that have most similar characteristics of the original one by applying fuzzy membership function. In the process, the difference in the brightness between pixels of the magnified image and the original one using bilinear interpolation method and the weight value using the interpolation from multiplied values of four pixels are supplied to the fuzzy membership function. In this experiment, the proposed method reduces the cloudy phenomenon appears commonly compared to the bilinear interpolation method among those qualitative issues of image interpretation.

  • This paper proposes the extraction of coronary arteries based on DSA(Digital Subtraction Angiography) through a texture analysis of background in the angiography. DSA is a well established modality for the visualization of coronary arteries. DSA involves the subtraction of a mask image - an image of the heart before injection of contrast medium - from live image. However, this technique is sensitive to the movement of background and can result to a wrong detection by the variance of background gray-level intensity between two images. Therefore, this paper solves a structural problem resulted from a background movement bV selecting an image which has the least difference of movement through an analysis of the similarity of background texture and proposes a method to extract only the blood vessel efficiently through local gray-level correction of the selected image. Using the coronary angiogram of 5 patients clinical data, we proved that the proposed method has the lower false-detection rate, approximately $2\%$, and the higher accuracy than the existing methods.
